Here we go guys, my first time driving all around New Zealand, we drove from Auckland to Queenstown via the West Coast on the way down and East Coast on the way back up
This is Part 1 where I go over the rig setup, what I thought about it on the trip.
Thanks to the guys at POD Trailers NZ

This is a sweet set-up... I'm still tent camping at the moment and have been considering upgrading to camper trailer or caravan (packing space is getting tight, with two kids, dog also misses out). Pod-trailer with a RTT looks a great solution! I like the idea of being able to have gear in trailer rather than loading car to the max, and being able to use trailer for general house work etc. not camping. Low weight is the best part of all though, I'm sold!

Look at the Maxxis Razr MT's, as a mud terrain they are a very quiet. My partner has BFM KM3's on her jeep and they are very noisy compared to my Razr's. Also did a South Island trip on the Razr and they where fantastic. Macetown, Otago high country, Macauley Hut, they went everywhere.

Thanks for your video which helped me decide the option to go for. I decided to purchase the Felton given other reviews and have mounted mine on a trailer I owned. I have taken on some of your tips with regards to accessories which has helped. Thank you. Like you I found the Felton mattress just a little too thin so decided to add a cheap thin foam mattress topper that I found at The Warehouse. Have placed this under the exiting mattress. That has made it a lot more comfortable albeit that it requires a little bit more effort to pack the tent. Cheers buddy.

They did a simulation and a cow is literally more aerodynamic than a jeep 😂btw can you get a shorter draw bar on those trailers and thanks for the walk around such a nice setup👌

Great content Chris. Couple of q’s. Did you opt for the standard drawbar or the extended version (300mm)? I’m told the extended is better towing and gives you more space for adding bikes etc. In your opinion would you opt for the extended? Cheers.

Hey bro. Awesome setup. Did u use pressure rated pvc for the shower? Or was that just normal 100mm pvc.

Hi from Tassie mate nice review, our pod trailers coming in about 6 weeks & we like the feldon shelter, question, is that the crows nest regular rooftop tent that you have?, i would like to go with the crows nest extended but dont want to have too much of it overhanging . Thanks Kent.

Crows nest? Did they change the name? Mine was just the standard Feldon shelter not the extended one. I dunno if I’d buy the extended one mostly because of the height and extra price. (Height from the ground I mean it’s too low to take advantage of the extra cover

Hey mate, great walk around of the Pod, I just bought one myself. Did you end up getting a hard shell tent? Also, fyi, Darche make a self Inflating mat for their roof tops, It's thicker so should be more comfy. Cheers :)

Hey Chris, awesome to see more videos coming out of NZ. We are in Tauranga and are in the process of building up our new truck. Question re your batwing, we have just put one on, does yours leak water into it when parked up during the week at home? ours is a pain and we don't feel like having to dry it every weekend wondering if they are all the same?

Hey Sam no I can’t say I’ve ever had that once. I’d take it back tbh get them to sort it. Where did you buy?

Hi Chris, since you are the only person I know of in NZ who actually used his Jeep for actual overlanding, May I ask: Would you recommend the Jeep (American brand) vs a Japanese brand (FJ Cruiser / Pajero etc) ? I have been advised that parts, service, repairs etc are more expensive and I should stick to a Japanese car ( also why I have been advised away from land Rovers too) Thanks

Steven Mark hey mate yeah from my experience they are very reliable, I just wouldn’t buy the 3.8l the 3.6 is great (2012 on) If you want something just as capable but older I’d look at a tidy 80 series land cruiser, not a fan of Pajero,

As far as suspension goes you mean? 2” you can do without a problem, you can go higher if you get a cert.

Rhinorack roof trays are rubbish. they fall apart on corrugations. Have a look at NZ designed and made "Combat Rack". They can even make custom to suit your application.

@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer Though the water carrier you devised is really cool, assuming that the plastic is good for drinking water if that's one of the purposes. A really interesting video.👍
