​@@davipenha yeap, it's like the ç, specially since maaaany keyboards and even fonts don't even have the accents available, so many write the words with ç ~ and sometimes ^ without them. but to be honest, let me just give my two cents on it, 'cus this just makes my blood boil xD as a brazilian myself -born, and raised here all my life- i ,for SURE, don't think most brazilians should be picky or mock Anyone trying to speak another language and pronouncing things wrong, i mean...... most brazilians can't even speak portuguese correctly nor without an accent, and even more of them can't pronounce english -and other foreign- words the correct way -and by 'correct' i mean the Native way, the way they Expect foreigners to pronounce portuguese words, like they are native speakers- and just assume it's said like that because it's engraved in the society, the CLASSIC example being the famous movie ""Titanic"" .... people here including on tv, promos, and absolutely anyone talking about it say ''tchíh- tã- nih-ck" emphasizing every syllable specially the last portion, not "ty- tuh- nick'' emphasizing the middle, or even the tv series Xena the warrior princess? or the game Xenogear? yeap.... both greek based, and people around here --EVEN in big producers/marketing and tv! seriously!- just Roll with the X in the word as it's used in portuguese grammar despite the fact that being greek it sounds like a Z.... and TRY to speak the correct/native pronounce in a conversation? oh... my....god.... be ready for some Brutal mockery and people saying you sound soooo pretentious or EVEN start arguing that it's just wrong the way YOU are saying it because they've been saying and listening to it being said like that -the 'wrong' way- since they are kids so it IS the correct way.......we even have the word ''abrasileirado'' which is the equivalent to ''americanized'' some use for words that have shifted from it's original one to a more ''portuguese sounding'' way of saying, because people do this -change the way they sound to sound similar to portuguese grammar rules- to so freaking many foreign words and just assume That's the correct pronunciation EVEN when trying to speak the original word in another language, i've heard many specially in school FROM AN ENGLISH TEACHER i mean.... the ONE person you Expect to have an absolutely almost 'native sounding', perfect and NOT broken english since they're Teaching the language itself so they must've studied it........ so....basically.... no one here can actually criticize too much the way foreign speakers pronounce things ''Wrong'' or with an accent or plainly the way ''they think it's pronounced based on the their own language grammar rules'' while trying to speak portuguese or any other language..... sorry for this huge tangent i just had to get it off my chest AHHAHAHA and i think i drank too much coffee '-' i apologize hahahahahaha

@@luizhenriquealves9755 Cara, simplesmente comparar uma colônia com a outra não dá certo, por exemplo, existem tipos de colônias, e esses países que geralmente a maioria cita como Canadá e Austrália ( Só 2 exemplos ) foram países bem autônomos de certa forma e que os ingleses investiram muito, eram colônias de povoamento então a realidade era bem diferente da nossa, tipo, éramos apenas uma fonte de extração de recursos, isso ocorreu até com países que hoje são potências -mas não tão desenvolvidos- como a Índia, que era de fato explorada mesmo tendo um governo próprio que era bem desorganizado, complexo e preso ao Reino Unido. Podia ser muito pior, mesmo a ocupação portuguesa aqui sendo horrível -eu me abro caso alguém queira comentar isso ou discordar- extraindo, estuprando e forçando coisas como a língua e religião nos nativos, mas na história é assim, a gente teoriza mas na real, no fundo, a gente agradece por pelo menos saber que não tá pior, pois eu de fato acho que poderia ser kkk.

Small correction: the day when D. Pedro I said he'd stay was before the independence happened, though he was probably thinking about it when he decided to stay. He had mostly grown up in Brazil because he was pretty young when the royal family moved to Rio and was fairly popular here. If i remember my History classes correctly, the situation of who'd get the Portuguese throne was a little bit less clear or less immediate, he would've had to wait longer until his father died, and iirc there were other family members there that might be a little bit of trouble, so declaring independence was a guaranteed way to get to some throne as soon as possible. Some people here were worried that he'd just end up claiming the Portuguese crown too after his father died, turning Brazil back into a colony, but that didn't happen. The independence wasn't entirely as heroic as the paintings make it seem, which is kinda common. Brazil had to pay Portugal a lot of money as compensation, I imagine nobody loved the thought of fighting a lot over it. Some additions, if anyone wants to learn more: About the time the Dutch took over: Before trying to take over, the Dutch were also very involved in all the sugar trading going on at the time through the Dutch West India Company. They would refine it and actually sell it to many different parts of Europe. If i remember correctly, they were also involved in the transatlantic slave trade, I think they had a lot of ships. So they already had a lot of power and money here, which made it easier for them to take over eventually. And when they took over, they didn't technically govern all the areas that "belonged" to the Portuguese, it was mainly in Northeastern Brazil, which was the area with the most development here at that time, but they didn't get Rio, for example. And the guy who became governor seemed to be very interested in science and the arts, which he encouraged way more than the Portuguese did. Maybe not among regular poor people, but he got painters and naturalists to come over on expeditions and stuff like that. About the Portuguese royal family coming to Rio: Queen Maria didn't really do any governing while the royal family was in Brazil because she was said to not be sane anymore. At some point she ran out of the palace naked. Well, I'm not sure if she was fully naked, it's also possible that she was wearing some clothes that weren't seen as enough at the time, since everyone wore so many layers. People had to call some nuns from a convent that's kind of nearby and wait for them to get there because nobody else was allowed to just go and touch the queen like that to get her back inside. About the (very late) end of slavery: England was pretty significant in the process of slavery ending. At some point they went "ok we just realized that slavery is actually bad, so if you wanna be on good terms with us you have to stop it". But unfortunately that wasn't a very popular idea among that many people here, including lots of powerful people. There were certain laws passed to diminish it, at one point it became illegal to enslave more people in Africa to bring them over, if i remember correctly the English threatened to sink ships doing that. It didn't fully end, but it greatly diminished. But the enslaved people here weren't freed, and they still had kids who were not born free. Some time later, there were also laws that tried to free some more people, one that freed anyone who turned 60 and one that freed anyone born from that point on, but in practice they didn't work that well. Most important people here didn't want slavery to end, so it took a while for the band-aid to actually get ripped off, and when it was abolished it was also not that great economically either. There were many people who were against it for moral issues, but that wasn't the only reason why it ended. There's an expression we use here, "para inglês ver", meaning "for [the] English to see", it means you're trying to make something look better to others without actually making changes to improve it. Some people who had "owned" slaves who then got freed got paid compensation, and there was no real attempt that i know of to help the people who were suddenly free but had no money and still faced a lot of prejudice. Also, I remember being told that after D. Pedro II got exiled he took a vial of earth from Brazil that he kept under his pillow or something like that.

Mas ainda assim a lei teve alguns problemas. Assim como as outras leis abolicionistas que vieram antes (que inclusive são chamadas de Leis para inglês ver), essa lei não resolvia a situação dos ex-escravos. Os donos de terra não iam começar a pagar dinheiro para os trabalhadores que antes trabalhavam de graça, então muitos acabaram desempregados e formando favelas, ou em outros trabalhos com condições ruins (é isso que eu lembro da minha aula de história, se eu errei em alguma coisa me corrijam por favor)

Here's an explanation about the Portuguese "R": We have 3 different ways of saying R - I'll call them the "Trill" one, the "Throat" one and the "American" one. Trill - this is the one you see in Spanish, and it is also the "original" R, used by Portugal and still very alive in some places in Brazil (South and Itailan diaspora in São Paulo). It can be used in any position of a word, so if you only use this type, you will never be wrong. Throat - this one is like the French R, or like the letter H in words like "harsh", "horse", etc. A lot of Brazilians use it (Rio, Minas Gerais, all of North and Northeastern regions), and it's probably the most prominent one, currently. It is a "strong R", and that's the one you used to say "Rio de Janeiro". But notice that "eiRo" in Janeiro? That's a "weak R", because it's between 2 vowels. Weak R is ALWAYS pronounced as a Trill, no matter your accent. Therefore, people who use the Throat R also use the Trill when the R shows up between vowels. American - that's the Rhotic R, the one you hear in Road, River, etc. It's by far the least standard one, but it is also used by a lot of people (São Paulo and Minas' countrysides, plus Center-West states). It is generally regarded as the "hillbilly R", very rural/suburban. It is, despite its "low intelligence" stereotype, the hardest one to use: It is a "strong R", but it doesn't happen at the beginning of words, neither on double R words (i.e. Carro [car]). That means only a final R or a R before another consonant can have the American pronunciation: Carta. Favor, Amar, Porta. So what happens is people who use this kind of R have to use the Trill on a "weak R" (like everyone else) and then either Trill or Throat for the "strong R". Meaning people speaking an accent with the American R can use up to 3 different kinds of R. It's all very logical once you learn it (there are no irregularities/exceptions), but from the outside it just looks like a mess. Bonus: H is silent in Portuguese. So hipopótamo or helicóptero are read "ipopótamo" and "elicóptero". One fewer sound to worry about. :)

As a historian, I should point out to those interessted in Brazil's history there are numerous mistakes made there, and there's more research going on about it. Anyway, here are a couple fun facts that could change your final interpretation of Brazil's history. - the "line" portugal and spain drew over the atlactic sea did not "just happened" to be over a tiny border of Brazil, but Portugal made a complaint about the first line drawn and asked that the distance (from portugal) would be just a tiny bit bigger, and 6 years later (very little time for people that still used horses as cars) they said they owned it. - the "I Will Stay" speech is not so much a rebelion against the empire but more like: daddy João VI wrote Pedro I to "declare" independence and it would all be good as long as they were the same empire. So much so, that as soon as Pedro's son become of age, Pedro I went to be king in Portugal. This makes no sense in aristocracy old functionality, you could only become king if daddy died. The deal to """"become independent"""" is more likely Portugal would be watching Latin America take Spain down and become republics of it own people and having Pedro I declare independence would be a great way of staying in power without having to deal with rebellions and people having rights like being able to decide on its government. - about Pedro II being a great leader, centered, educataded etc, well, many studies show us today that he was a party boy, was frequently drunk, didnt made very much time for politics and the real leader was his wife, Leopoldina. (whos an interesting woman, should get a video for herself) Brazil's history is fuckin nuts, love it. There is a lot to uncover there. Very tricky as well

It's not perfect, but, surprisingly, is kinda accurate. The perfect way to describe this video is like saying that you told the history of Cinderella, but in the disney version instead of the original by the Grimm Brothers. There is some things that are different, but, for the people that want to have the first contact with your history, it's amazing. Again, I think that there are some things wrong, but this is still a amazing video and I think you did a amazing job. And, as a Brazilian, I appreciate you telling our history ((Sorry if I did some grammar mistake, I am not the best on speaking/writing in English and I am still learning))

Society fun fact: Brazil, at the time Dom Pedro I left, felt kinda bonded with his son, Don Pedro II, because both Don't Pedro II and Brazil had been abandoned by their father and king. Bird_Dog It is because not *every* language contain the same pronunciations as in English. In English, the letter “R” is pronounced “Ahr” while in Portuguese, “R” is pronounced “Érre” (Eh-He). Portuguese is a “Lusophonic” language. English is a “Germanic” language. _BIG_ difference.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the Bandeirantes. They were very much the Brazilian equivalent to US Pilgrims, down to the far nastier relationship with native populations than history monuments and books at schools tend to show. Also, COFFEE. That was THE biggest commodity in Brazil at the 19th century, and it was to sustain coffee plantations that the Brazilian government, during the slavery ending process, incentived European immigrants to come here (mostly Italians and Germans, who were having issues back in Europe due to their country unification processes). This migration was also related to eugenic efforts to 'whiten' the population, as we had a ton of black people here (and still do, as black and mixed people compose about half the population nowadays).

Watching an English speaker trying to speak Portuguese for 10min is the kinda thing I love on KZbin. PS:. When "R" is in the start of a word we say like "RR", for example: Rio (River), Rato (Rat), Raio (Lightning), Rinha (Fight), etc..., That's why it's Rio de janeiro, pronounced like "Rrio de Janeiro"
