This was a whole treat! But I have to say: Blue's presentation: gives the vibe of the person who has cue cards, made his slideshow information based on spark notes; did some more deep diving but is able to fly from the sit of his pants and make it work. Indigo: graphs. The vibe of someone far deep in multiple pages of notes, lots of statistics and back up justification of her reasons, a clear essay writing. The person who's notes are scribbled on, highlighted and has multiple sticky notes stuck to the papers from thought that she explains later. Cyans: well thought out and through, did quite a bit research but didn't drive themselves into madness (red and Indigo), very fun and was able to come across with her point nicely. The vibe of the person doing a presentation that involves a lot of interesting things to it and videos relating to the topic. Red: the vibe of the strings and nails on the wall, the person shifting through pages and pages mid presentation to try and find the correct page since it's SOMEHOW out of order. Flying by the seat of her pants and trying her best!

Fun memory about Ode to Joy: Pastor: We'll now sing Ode to Joy, though I suppose it isn't a Christmas song. Mom: Yes it is! They play it in Die Hard! Church: *awkward silence* EDIT: Blue! The fact that it's Christmas Eve is ESSENTIAL to the plot! It's the day that was perfect for the heist because 1) fewer people in the building but enough for a hostage situation; 2) the police, the FBI, etc are eager to just get home; 3) it's the one holiday that would get McLane out to California.

I knew I could count on Red to bring up my favorite Christmas movie, Die Hard. Also, regarding Ode to Joy as a Christmas song, in Japan, Ode to Joy is actually perceived as a Christmas song. Nakatomi Corporation is a Japanese company, so this cultural backdrop is important to consider. The reason for Ode to Joy being considered a Christmas song in Japan is because in the post-war era, Beethoven's classics were not censored by the occupying US force, and it is one of the few that peaceful and hopeful, which is what Christmas means to the Japanese people. Christmas is treated very differently in Japan in terms of what it emphasizes so I don't think the "true meaning of Christmas" may mean what Americans think in the same way.

One of your d&d horses was "Chad". Chad was a chiseled beefy regular horse that took 2 hours real time to calm down after we failed 15 animal handling checks. Then in later adventures Chad went on to help kill 2 dire wolf's, 4 goblins, and all by its self donkey kicks a hob goblin off a cliff. Also dodged a dragon, and a flock of griffins. Chad is a flat out legend of a horse!

For Blue's segment, seeing as Christmas gives you super-strength in the Grinch universe, what superpowers do other holidays give you when you absorb their true meaning? When someone becomes truly grateful and appreciative for the common workforce on Labor day, what magical powers do they get?

On the Grinch's super strength, it's actually something akin to a gritty adaptation. Considering his heart starts two sizes too small, and proceeds to grow 3 sizes, the rapid onset cardiomegaly probably gives the Grinch something akin to a blood-doping effect as the flow to his muscles increases three-fold.

The singer in the Chuck Jones version of How The Grinch Stole Christmas was Thurl Ravenscroft, who was also the voice of Tony The Tiger. The narrator was Boris Karloff.

There's a very simple argument that ends the debate of whether or not Die Hard is a Christmas movie: Die Hard is Home Alone for adults. If Home Alone is a Christmas movie, Die Hard is a Christmas movie.

I reject both your premise and conclusion. So you definitely did not end the argument. You just opened up a new argument on whether or not Die Hard is Home Alone for adults, which it definitely isn't.

@WraythSkitzofrenik3 жыл бұрын
I think the design of the Grinch's face was a caricature of Jones.
@jaredhebert9423 жыл бұрын
I'd punch it up to a few things for why How The Grinch Stole Christmas still holds up some 50 years on - the excellent animation of Ken Harris & Abe Levitow who'd been animating since the 30s & 40s alongside Jones's solid character refinement on Geisel's great base, the stellar backgrounds of Maurice Noble, Eugene Poddany's Magnum Opus as a composer (with Geisel's great lyrics and Ravenscroft brings it home) with Boris Karloff as a great narrator (and going against decades of typecasting from the Universal Monster Movies!). That made for a great film, even if it was kind of in spite of Jones's pomposity by that time (regardless of talent, few can stand big egos for extended periods of time)
@timschommer85483 жыл бұрын
I've actually watched all of those EXCEPT Die Hard. Also, the fact that Red got so close to convincing people that Holly was an analog for the true meaning of Christmas on such flimsy evidence just goes to show something I learned in my English classes: successful English writing/presentation is 80% knowing how to bullshit effectively.

I was going to rant that you all are clearly too young to to know that CLEARLY the best Christmas movie is A Charlie Brown Christmas special, but then Blue hauls out the Grinch (which is contemporaneous) and Cyan gives us The Year without a Santa Claus (which was part of my childhood and thus nostalgic) and ruins my argument. STILL, Charlie Brown should be on this list! So there.
