Tommy, You and Off Grid Mom have done a great job raising both of your kids and it shows greatly in them , I wouldn't plant anything until the week after Easter It was my Grandpa & Dad's rule on the farm as far as the garden . I would get the metal pan made for wood stoves to put on the floor and on the wall directly behind where the wood stove sits especially since your going to paint the wall

Heart is a missing thing in our lives today and yes it affects me the same way when it concerns my kids or grand kids they are the biggest part of me. And this is why your channel is growing so fast is because you do have a heart and we as viewers can see it. Thanks for all you do and the OGK missed the live chat Sunday night feel asleep.

Tommy install your chiemny before your sheetrock then take your pipe down put your collar in and install your roof collar and roof pipe be sure to get above all roofs to get a good draw. When putting your sheet rock use screws and put 1/2 inch rock.

Looking good. For my wood stove installation, I put 1/2 inch cement board on the floor and covered it with 12"square and 1.5"thick cement pavers. It gets very hot directly under the stove. I have a VC Aspen and it has a metal heat shield which attaches about 2 inches below the stove. It is pretty flimsy looking, just sheet metal, but it does a good job of keeping the floor cool. -- MrAikiDave

Hi Off Grid Nation! Loved the tour. You need two pecan trees to cross pollinate. After that second one pecans should come in. Heather said that might be why you don't have any. Love the channel!

Would you consider removing the door to the camper? It will resolve the problem you have where the door will be too close to the heat source when open to blow the hot air through? Then Maybe consider also putting an extractor fan to replace the little window to the right of the door to get good airflow into the camper?
@lindahibbs8044

since the cabin and trailer or hook together I would go ahead and take off the door maybe even make the opening a little wider and then you know ever you got the extra bedrooms in the bathroom

With your Buddy, if using the 1 lb bottles, you need two of them to run on high. If you are using a 20 lb tank, just use the hose with the regulator. If using the 100 lb tank, you need a special hose with different regulator to adapt the pressure from the 100 lb to the 20 lb rate. It's not made to run on a 100 lb tank, as per Mr Heater.
@Ungovernable74
@Ungovernable74 7 жыл бұрын
I am running a 100 lb. tank. I didn't realize that it needed a special regulator. Thanks.
@grantw.whitwam9948
@grantw.whitwam9948 7 жыл бұрын
I think the 100# and the 20# should have the same pressure, shouldn't matter.
@cheriettejackson4248
@cheriettejackson4248 7 жыл бұрын
According to Mr Heater Co, 20-30-40 lb tanks are the same pressure, and that is what they recommend. 100 lb tanks have a different connection and higher pressure.. They can be used, but need a different regulator. There are LP heaters that need 100 lb tanks or higher, but won't run on 20 lb. So there is a difference. I emailed Mr Heater Co and that was their response.

It's all liquid propane. The vapor pressure is temperature dependent. Has nothing to do with the container.

The cheap kind from Aldi. I definitely not a coffee snob but I do like the way it tastes out of the french press. I'd like to buy and roast my own beans at some point. That looks pretty cool and feels kind of homesteady.

Turn the space over the wood stove to collect hot air you can blow around into the cabin and camper. You can get 12vDC ducted fans to let you run off a battery with just a 4, 6 or 8 inch round duct/flex duct to get the air where you want it. As that space is now it will be a heat trap as it enclosed by lower doorways so the hot air will get trapped and lost to the outside.
@Ungovernable74
@Ungovernable74 7 жыл бұрын
I plan on using a fan but you bring up an interesting idea here. I'm trying to think of how I would do it for little $ in practice. Thank you.
@TheUserid82
@TheUserid82 7 жыл бұрын
A cheap method to control a fan is a Normally open thermal switch set in the area the hot air will built up. Should be less then $10 and will turn on at and over the switches set temp. A quick check shows a 12vDC ducted fan for around $30 from walmart but you can get cheaper by going for a cars cabin air blower as that is 12v. Bilge and engine compartment fans also work for the fan types as long as it can run directly without having to use an inverter. If you do setup a system to move the heat around remember to have a switch to turn it off when you leave so it can't run when you are away as it will drain the batteries.

You should have put the Durarock on the window side and put the stove over there. That would eliminate the interference problem with the trailer door.
@Ungovernable74
@Ungovernable74 7 жыл бұрын
Good idea but I would have to walk around the stove to get through the door. I'm not sure if it shows it on camera but there isn't enough room on that side. I think we'll have plenty of room on the other side. I'm going to move it a little closer to the cabin and shouldn't have any trouble with the door. I hope to have it all set in the next couple of trips to OGA. Stay tuned.

Thanks GP. It's a fine line, isn't it? I get emails from people all the time asking me to "review" their products. If they have good stuff that I think people would like I say I'd be interested if they send me one to giveaway to the subs. They usually baulk at that so I don't do a lot of reviews. The reality is that in some respects we need to earn a little bit from all of the hours that goes into making, editing and uploading these videos but I try to recognize the line and stay on this side of it. I'll do my best to continue that. If I get outta line I'll count on you to tell me :)

Durarock looks good. Tin sheeting also finishes up the heating and heat reflection issues. Have a full trailer door opening, never know when you need to have it fully open (summer time or EMERGENCY !!!!) and being pinched to get in/get out. Biggest issue of trailer door is when stove is hot, you don't want open trailer door that close to the stove, but to get the heat into the trailer the door must open ... or door closed and that window becomes the heat portal (hot air through window, cold air leaked out of tralier with cracked open door). Also have a proper-wide walkway on the left. Sheetrock ceiling flat to the timbers - with insulation put atop it as well. Even with rafter insulation, you want to keep that heat room with lower heat than the rafters. This makes the heat going into the top of the trailer door and the new opening into your living room. (Folks did that stupid 1960s heated ceiling BS, you heat the top of the hosue, and your feet are freezing. Totally stupid! If anything put that technology into the basement ceiling, then you have warm feet !!!). Just duh! Figure NOW whether you are going to have a light in that little space or not, and install all electrical wiring and switch now. Shaving the bow is the best option, as this should have been seen when installing the framing, first. No option to counter-bend and force-brace the bow back into shape with a 2x4 behind it. Stove can sit closer to wall, but don't overstuff and burn wood inside until blue-white. Stove can only be a heater, not a blow torch (or diesel jet heater). Biggest issue now is WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO HAVE THE WOOD STACKED ?! The trailer door takes up its mandatory swing space. The walkway takes up its mandatory walk space. AND NOBODY is putting in shelving above a stove for stacked wood. As the old lady asked, "Wheres the wood stacked ?" Are you going to keep the wood pile in the front porch with outside atmosphere and humidity? And haul wood continually to the stove? You going to move the bed to the right and have wood stacked there (inside a shelved cabinet), or to the left of the door jamb? The stove needs to be facing the living room (and probably remove that forward tongue) and fed with wood from that direction. There is no kitty corner option, as facing backwards, you have to put the wood into the stove from the trailer side. If you kitty corner the stove to the living room, then you will continually bump into the stove when walking between cabin and trailer (and one burn will make you wish you hadn't kitty cornered. The only option is to have the stove "nearby" the durarock (and tin), while giving enough freeboard walking space, walking by the stove and not getting a SUNBURN from walking by it as well. Feed wood from the living room. Also consider how to clean the stove piping and stove barrel NOW. Cleaning soot and creosote (or having a flaming stove pipe and entire cabin and trailer fire ... is a messy job, and you have the open area into the living room for all such dirty work (no truly enclosed room). Cleaning out the coals and ash must have enough room to work around the stove, but also the small space it is enclosed within. Wish the trailer had been placed some 3 feet further away, and all this would have been easily solved.

Hi Tommy what about the wall to the camper are you going to use what you have left of the Dura rock to protect that from the heat from the stove, might be a good idea !
@Ungovernable74
@Ungovernable74 7 жыл бұрын
Well, you bring up an interesting point. It will be several inches past the recommended clearance for the wood stove and it is aluminum so I'm not sure that it will be an issue. Of course, better safe than sorry isn't a bad idea but I also don't want to go through the time, energy, and expense if there is no real benefit to doing so. I'd like to see other weigh in on this.

U thought about just removing the camper door?
@Ungovernable74
@Ungovernable74 7 жыл бұрын
It crossed my mind but I like the ability to block that space off. There are bunks on the other side of the door and it would be nice to close it off for privacy plus the camper isn't very well insulated so keeping it closed off will help in the coldest and warmest parts of the year.

My only thought is what is taking it so long??? It shouldn't be where it is. Way overvalued and way past time for a correction if not a total collapse. Is this another head fake? Your guess is as good as mine. There are only a select few at the top that know when and how it will collapse but I'll continue to believe it's a foregone conclusion.
