REFLECTIX: Part 2 Under My Tiny House

This is Part 2 of the project to deal with the termites that got into my house. I never really insulated under my house because I was worried it might hide termites. I stapled up some Reflectix brand bubble foil to bounce some of the heat back from the radiant floor when I first built the house, but I didn't do the two layer with air space method that the manufacturer recommends. In this video I pull down the original material and assess how much it degraded, not much, and I replace it in two layers and tape the last layer for air tightness.
In Part 3 I add 4' wide Reflectix under the main part of the house that doesn't have radiant heat, but that does have open cell Icynene foam.

I'm using reflectix under my cabin. I'm installing it like you did originally, no air gap. I have seen videos where they have installed it either way. I even watched a video from reflectix where they installed the bubble foil in the attic with no air gap. Can you tell a difference since you went back and replaced the reflectix and left an air gap?

Yes, I can tell a difference, but I think it’s from taping it all around the edges. I haven’t seen a scorpion in my house since I did that. Because I have radiant heat in the floor that I originally did with one layer of Reflectix I can’t really tell a difference in comfort because the thermostat just pumps more electricity into it until it reaches the set point. My power bill was higher because my refrigerator is low on refrigerant so I can’t really use that as a measurement.
