If you're not playing Ixidron, you're doing blue wrong. My Hot picks: Empyrial Plate - In a format where people often draw a *ton* of cards, I often dig this up as a side wincon. (Back when Griselbrand was legal for a short time it *was* my wincon) Necroplasm - Turn 1 kills all tokens. It walks up the curve afterwards, but it usually gets me value turn 1. Oh, and it has Dredge, because... you know. (Marchesa is in love too BTW) Dreamscape Artist - If you're a fan of the green 'Lay of the Land' on a stick, how about a blue 'Harrow' on a stick? Flat out repeatable mana acceleration in blue. Combine with landfall, or a high tide style effect and you quickly spiral out of control. Do or Die - Choice cards get a bad rap, I know. But for 2 mana and one card, this usually takes a lot of momentum off a player with a good board state. Decks that rely on swarms of creatures are particularly hurt since the choice can often be pretty symmetrical for them. Choice of Damnations - Choice cards where you make the call on the other hand are very potent. There is no way your opponent is getting off when you resolve this. Dack's Duplicate - Clones are cool. Haste is better, often forcing answers to come at instant speed. Dethrone on the biggest creature on the board means, if you weren't at the top in life, whoever is has a tough decision to make. It's the fact that you get the added value of these two abilities for the same CMC as clone that is impressive to me. Uphill Battle - It's no Blind Obedience or Frozen Aether, but white and blue are also not red. Outpost Siege - We all know red has problems keeping itself going in the long-game. Well, out Outpost Siege is a great answer. Usually, you will want to take the free impulse draw every turn. Goblin decks will be able to get advantage out of the second mode if they're already in a good place though. Cream of the Crop - Most green decks are already playing creatures once a turn. If you can manage that then cream of the crop is a very potent filtering card. Wolfir Silverheart - Five mana for 12 power, 4 of which should be able to attack that turn. Extra fun with clone or anything infect/doublestrike It isn't world shattering, but its a solid creature I have never seen used. (I use it in my Maelstrom wanderer deck and it serves me well) Unravel the Aether - Instant speed artifact and enchantment removal that shunts it right into the library. Maybe not as useful as exile, but it can also be a tricky way to screw up players who are tutoring or stacking their decks. (Before the tuck rule it was also super secret tech against god commanders) Oona's Grace - Not the most impressive on the surface, but giving every land cycling for 2U can get you out of a lot of binds. Plus, it's instant speed and does its job from the graveyard. Pristine Talisman - One of my favorite mana-rocks. Nabs you one life a turn (at least) for doing what you already want to do. A lot of people rightfully don't think much of lifegain, but when it is bundled with a card doing what you want anyway it is a fantastic bonus. There are more efficient accelerators out there, but in a deck looking for more than the most obvious, this is a go-to for me. In one or two color I will take this over any of the 3CMC color producers. I expect the new Seer's Lantern to appear in some of my lists now too.

Hey y'all. Thank you for this show. I've been looking for a new Commander podcast for a while, because after Andy (the main host) left Commandercast post episode 100, I felt like it really went downhill audio-wise, and maybe in other ways. I've listened to four or five episodes of CommandZone so far, and this ep. hit me with cards that I haven't ever heard of ... which is awesome, because I've been playing since Revised ... and Commander since around 2010. Reconnaissance ... that's just what one of my decks needed.

Probably the most impactful card that I've used in EDH and still is imo one of the best 2 drops i could ask for in a karador deck is Mesmeric Orb. The amount of mill that it produces for the cost of 2 is absolutely ridiculous and still till this day is my favorite card of that deck.

An over performing card is also an obscure card. Spellweaver Volute. Its so good and greatly underappreciated and you'll find you will never have an issue with not having a target. Spellweaver Volute says. Enchant an instant in a graveyard. Whenever you cast a sorcery you may cast the instant without paying it's mana cost. If you do, exile that instant and attach Spellweaver Volute to another target instant in a graveyard. Broken!

So keeping in theme with "effects outside of their normal color-pie" I'd like to say: Reality Shift. Awesome spot removal in mono-blue or blue-red splashes that need hard removal of a creature and as an upside, you can deny a control deck a card entirely thanks to the manifest part of the card. (Reality Shift also EXILES the creature, which is significant in EDH where many game-enders have Indestructible)

I know this is 3 years old, but you mention about seeing the card when you talk about it. This is awesome for anybody who doesn't know everything there is to know about magic. As a relative beginner, I don't understand how some decks get their names, and I don't yet know what "tutor" means. I think it comes from another card that has tutor in the name, and it does something that was new at the time. I mean, I can look it up, but there are many things like that that so many people just blow through without explaining.

- Spore Frog and Kami of False Hope liketh reanimation and raise dead effects. - Fire Covenant and Phyrexian Purge pick specific creatures off the board with laser precision. - Righteous Aura stops all damage based commanders. - Withering Boon is a alternative to Remove Soul and comes out of nowhere. - Orcish Lumberjack is a one drop that turns forests into Gruul black lotus'.
@decakebaker9 жыл бұрын
Righteous Aura does amazing work in my oloro deck. Any pillowfort strategies will love that card. The best buyback card in my opinion is forbid it boggles my mind how insane that card is and how cheap the price is. Hell's Caretaker I don't see a lot of but with so many enter the battlefield abilities on creatures and reanimation strategies especially in black this card does tons of work for me. War's Toll is so good for red decks it's forces your opponents to tap out if they want to cast anything and if they attack with creatures all their creatures attack meaning you can pick off utility creatures and what not as well as the fact you're red and you want to attack all the time with everything anyways. Collected Voyage I enjoy as well it allows you to ramp and everyone else as well I've had games where everyone gets 8 lands into play on turn 3. Being green you usually have the biggest creatures and being able to pump out an avenger of zendikar or worldspine wurm or terrastodon by turn 1 or 2 is a big deal. Nim Deathmantle is another favourite of mine I don't see many people play it but it can save valuable creatures and even your commander if you're willing to let it go to the graveyard. As well it pumps I don't see much of these cards in my meta but yeah, price of glory and viashino heretic are crazy good I'm glad they were mentioned.

Here's some neat little combos for cards in your lists; Greater Gargadon + Grave Pact/Dictate of Erebos Reap + Darkest Hour Otherworld Atlas + Notion Thief Otherworld Atlas + Fate Unraveler/Underworld Dreams/Psychosis Crawler/Nekusar Overperformers for me; Wild Pair & Lurking Predators. I play them in my Karrthus dragon tribal deck and they're amazing at just cheating big creatures on the battlefield constantly. Wild Pair is especially ridiculous when using Belbe's Portal or Quicksilver Amulet, you get insane value out of your 3-4 mana.
@neojetangel9 жыл бұрын
I've actually used Otherworld Atlas to force a draw. When I was going to lose while playing my Vorel of the Hull Clade deck, I at instant speed put 200 counters on it and made everyone deck themselves.

4 mana transmute in black : Crypt ghast (2x mana accel), damnation (board wipe), diabolic tutor (anything tutor), it might as well say diabolic tutor for 3 mana. But I think what is lacking for transmute is that its sorcery speed. The muddle the mixture card especially, I wish I could hold it in my hand, counter if my opponent plays something game changing, or grab something at end of turn with transmute then cast it on my turn. I actually have a Lazav EDH deck running transmute. Too poor for demonic tutor and vampiric tutor, so transmute was an affordable tutor mechanic. Im glad other people found it useful too. For any milling decks out there. Transmute muddle the mixture for Mesmeric Orb. Best milling card ever.

My favorite two cards I play in Mono Blue are: “Counterlash”, a 4uu counterspell (why it doesn’t get played) but allows you to drop a card that shares a type with the card you countered for free. I have countered a creature and dropped an “Ulamog”, or countered an enchantment and dropped a “Decree of Silence” for free. “Clockspinning” - u (buyback 2u) add or subtract a counter of any kind from any permanent or suspend or anything at instant speed. Paired with “decree of silence” for infinite 4 mana counterspells, or using it on my planeswalkers to ultimate them the turn they come out.

Fertilid :3 In any deck that focuses on dumping +1/+1s on stuff like Ezuri, Vorel, Atraxa etc. As it can let you repeatedly dump basic lands onto your side of the field when you've got spare mana. Void has always performed well for me, especially against tokens (void for zero destroys all tokens since they have no mana cost, while also taking out mana crypts as splash damage). And the ability to hit the hand is relevant, even if all you get is the peek. It's especially backbreaking against, and powerful for Grenzo, since those decks often build around a specific casting cost. If you are Grenzo you can call any number that isn't your target number to keep from being affected, and against Grenzo you can do some serious harm once you know what his target number is.

While continuous fog is effect is nice. Keep in mind, if you are the leading player, even if you have that set up, you will be ganged up on. Atleast thats how our play group goes. Because, logically, everyone needs to knock down the king or else, if you're winning and they attack each other cause they cant attack you, thats like giving you the game. No one wants to play to lose. Not saying that reusable fog is bad but I don't think that you can really rely on it to feel safe. Also, in multiplayer, you use it once, lose a land. In the worst case, if 3 people gang up on you, thats 3 lands per turn. Just my two cents. Also, for rules, if your spell is countered, buyback does not happen and it goes to the graveyard as normal.
@joshleekwai88959 жыл бұрын
Kooh Hook I don't think we were saying Constant Mists is a game winner. But it is certainly super powerful and not played enough. It's not a finisher but it can help you finish. And certainly when no one is clearly ahead it can deter aggression towards you and force other players to fight each other, thereby putting you ahead. Also did we say that countering a buyback spell lets you still buy it back? If we did that was clearly an error and not something we meant to imply.

Disturbed Burial vs Grim Harvest, which do you think is better? I personally like disturbed burial because its instant speed, also, if it gets milled for whatever reason, or if I drew and discarded it, I can still get it back with recover. But downside to grim harvest is that I always need to have 3 mana open incase someone kills a creature and I fail to pay recover cost. Turn 3 buried alive -> Bloodghast, Triskelion, Mikaeus Turn 4 land + victimize = win the game. or Turn 4 wake the dead = win the game or Turn 4 (2 of exhume / animate dead / reanimate / life//death / dance of the dead) = win the game or Turn 5 living death = win the game Triskelion Mikaeaus is broken.

Hello, great list. I just have a suggestion similar to Disturbed burial. I think Grim Harvest might be slightly better. Because its an instant. Yes theres a risk of it being exiled while in the graveyard, but since buyback cost 3 addition, thats the same as the recover cost. Another plus to this card is that, if you milled it or your opponent milled it from your deck. You have a chance to pick it back up. Just my 2 cents because I have a horobi deck. Creatures die ALOT. I took a look at alot of recuring spells. Like yourself, I don't like one use cards unless its an absolute bomb (animate dead, reanimate, etc).

+Steel Dom 'Flusterstorm'. The image was made available as a wallpaper. The card itself is rather costly. (and good, if specific)

Where do you guys get the card art for your podcast? I have a hard time finding good sources.

I played a guy who built a deck all around white counters, it is pretty funny.

You guys said muddle the mixture transmuted for a 3 drop, but it's 2. Its the cost of the card, not the transmute cost. You probably just made a flub and you all know this... But figured I'd mention it.
