Johnny, I love your “not everything is so good” honesty here. Another thing that made this so helpful is your explanation as to why something isn’t really worth doing. You take care my griddling guru.❤️❤️❤️❤️

The burrito meal prep was our favorite. Made a batch so daughter would freakin' eat breakfast at work. She'd do a 12 hour nurse internship and come home beat. When I noticed she was acting weird (tired and hungry) I asked what she ate today and got "der, umm, well, yada yada." Frozen breakfast burritos was the answer from then on and no weird. :)

I had a couple of ideas after watching this video. None of them are for anything related to griddle cooking, but you may want to consider trying them on your own off camera. The absolute best way to make pizza I’ve ever seen without a dedicated outdoor pizza oven is shown in the America’s Test Kitchen video from May 2019 titled “Our New Favorite Way to Make Pizza is on the Grill”. They cook the pizza on a gas grill. I suppose you could do it on your BGE too with briquets or oak lump charcoal if you don’t have a gas grill. Smashed potatoes are delicious, they just can’t be made on a griddle. Joshua Weissman has a great video on making them. He cooks them in his oven for ~40 minutes and they turn out amazing.

Thanks! I'm going to check out both videos. I love America's test kitchen.

What a great video! I’m glad you gave us some of your thoughts and impressions of what is over and under rated. We watch these videos and everything looks fine on camera as you say but point out the obvious and sometimes not so obvious flaw until you are actually at the griddle. Keep up the great content! 👍🏻

Love your videos because you are just a simple guy experimenting with stuff like any of us would do and letting us know what you do to improve it. I'd love to see more of the meal prep style videos like the breakfast burritos. I'm always looking at new ways to prep a bunch of ready to eat food that can be vacuum sealed and frozen to reheat later as needed. The steak on the griddle comments actually make a ton of sense. What is your experience with just searing a steak on the griddle vs a grill? I like to use a sous vide to cook the steak then I take it out to the grill or whatever is handy to sear. Also would like to hear your opinions on the Traeger flatrock if you'd had a chance to try it or the blackstone culinary series. They look pretty nice and I've seen some reviews but not convinced they are worth the premium price especially with the horror stories I always hear about traeger. Keep it up and have fun cooking!

Thanks so much I'm glad you like the videos. I definetly plan on doing more meal prep videos. I was kind of saving those for winter because I felt like that's a good time to maximize the amount of food I cook at once on the griddle. That way I get more bang for my buck when it's colder lol. If you're sous vide your steak then yes a griddle would totally work and get you a more complete sear for all the reasons I stated in the video. However, I don't know how many steaks your doing. If I were to sous vide just one steak then I would get my cast iron pan out on the stove turn it to high and sear it on there. It would just be quicker and easier because you're only doing one. If you sous vide a lot of stuff then ya the griddle would be great. And honestly that would be a good meal prep video as well. Do some steaks and pork chops in the sous vide then get the griddle rip roaring hot and sear them reall quick at the end. You would have all your meat ready for the week. I haven't had a chance to use either of those griddles. My gut reaction is probably similar to yours. I'm not sure functionally what they are doing that the less expensive griddles aren't. It feels like a high end bells and whistles sort of things. But again, I have not used them so I don't know. They could be great for all I know. thanks so much for taking the time to watch.

I could never figure out the big mac toppings on the smash taco either?? If I was to try it I would mix taco seasoning in the meat and top with salsa and taco toppings. The pancake dipped sausage patty would be awesome in a deep fryer, wet batter like that doesn't work on flat tops or in air fryers, it needs to be dipped in a deep fryer to seal the outside quickly. Another great video. I love your laid back style, other grill channels can feel more like a hyped up used car sales pitch than a cooking video, lol.

Good video. Over the last two years have been to four In-N-Outs within a 25 mile radius of my location and every one of them makes the Flying Dutchman as simply one burger patty with cheese stacked on another burger patty with cheese. The restaurants found that the Keto and Carnivore diet crowd continually ordered this hack and onions are too “carby”. If someone asks for onions then he/she is not strict Keto or Carnivore though some would say the American cheese is not strict either.

I also tried pizza on my indoor griddle twice and it was meh both times. Its much better in my counter top oven/air fryer at 425 degrees. You are right that steak is great on the griddle, but pork chops (thin) are excellent too.

Hey Johnny , where I can find those wire racks you are using? Looked at 2 Walmarts. Camping, grilling, and housewares. They have black "cooling racks". But the silver ones are heavier and better for keeping things warm. Having guests over tomorrow so online order isn't an option. Always enjoy watching your vids.

I like wings on the griddle. I add some liquid smoke to whatever sauce I'm going to pour on them (liker buffalo sauce) or in the butter I use to cook it. Is it better than smoking, grilling, or deep frying? No, but they taste good.
@JohnnyBrunet2 ай бұрын
Ya I forgot to touch on the aspect of adding the sauce directly to the griddle. That does add a little more flavor.

I reserve good steaks and wings for my weber kettle, I never try to griddle or gas grill these things. Any chance Weber will give u a 4 burner Slate griddle for review? Wondering what you think about it, big claims are made about this thing. In NZ it's like $1900 for one of those.
@JohnnyBrunet2 ай бұрын
I haven't been offered one but I think The Flat Top King did a review and I trust him. He's honest and doesn't work for anyone. A lot of other people are sponsored by Webber so it's hard to tell what the truth is.

A note for the pizzas and oven being better: if you're out camping there's an argument to be made for a makeshift oven out of a griddle. I think griddle food is still far better but

@LethalLuggage2 ай бұрын
@@horrordude1985 That's a fair point. But when you're camping space also matters. So a single blackstone instead of multiple different pans could be worthwhile. Especially if you're bringing the blackstone anyway.

@LethalLuggage2 ай бұрын
@@horrordude1985 griddle + camp gas. Domes are replaced by having a griddle with a lid. I agree a dutch oven is smaller but if I'm *already* bringing a griddle anyway I might as well make it fit as many use cases as possible.

OK, I agree with everything but smashed potatoes, you’re doing it wrong. Get your potatoes Pokémon with the fork put them in the microwave for five or six minutes and use your burger press to smash them with a bunch of seasoning on them, let them get nice and crispy and then flip and they are fantastic
