I know, I'm so fucking tired of it. Jokic has such a strong case, he's one of the most impactful, impressive offensive players of all-time already, his MVPs even with one being stolen and given to the fraud is compelling, he's an all-time great playoff performer (he may be top-10 all-time AS A PLAYOFF GUY, honestly) but c'mon. We really don't have to do this right now. I could easily see him getting there... in 5-7 seasons, with 2-3 more titles.

Dirk has one title and one MVP and it took him 13 seasons to get it. Jokic is about to have 3 MVPs and possibly 2 titles in 4 years of a 9 year career. Love Dirk, but Jokic is in a different tier than Dirk at this point.

@@aznnp77 I agree completely. Not AT ALL a good-faith, fair comparison. That's like comparing Jokic to Derrick Rose. Jokic IS, I believe, the 9th-best player in NBA history right now, if he ended his career after this year, whatever the outcome, assuming he wins his third MVP. He's already in the top class of all-time players, no question. I know it's annoying because he has been such a shooting star, appearing so suddenly and being so great so quickly, but in a fair historical analysis, his accomplishments and capabilities and raw play on the hardwood already put him squarely in the conversation for top-10 all-time.

@@SchulzEricT In a full analysis, I do think he's a slightly better and, as an individual, more accomplished player than Jerry West was, especially after Jokic will likely win his third MVP this year. I'm not saying he's definitely a better player, but I think he can be thought of as such by a hair, and there's certainly a great argument one can make either way. They're really close. I don't think it's fair to invoke recency bias in this particular comparison, since a historical analysis seems to give the edge to Jokic, in my considered opinion.

After ranking every player I felt was worth considering in what became a top 16 list, those I felt were clearly in the first tier of all-time greatness, I surprisingly put Jokic at 9. I think, amazingly, he is barely in the top 10 now, assuming he wins his third MVP this year. He's a very rare all-time player, for any sport. In that top 16 I had to place The Mailman (Karl), The Other Malone (Moses), Bob #1 Pettit, Bob #2 Cousy, The Logo Jerry West, Kobe Bryant, and Hakeem The Dream Olajuwon all just barely behind him.

Turns out, after doing a historical analysis, Jokic *_is_* deserving of being called one of the top 10 NBA players of all time. Trying my very best to avoid recency bias, here's my best effort at what I think is a fair top 10: 1. Jordan 2. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 3. Bill Russell 4. Bird 5. Wilt Chamberlain 6. Magic 7. LeBron 8. Curry 9. Jokic 10. The Mailman Crazy that these legends slot around 11-16: - Moses Malone _(3x MVP, 1 ring, on 2 Anniversary teams, 2 numbers retired)_ - Bob Pettit _(2x MVP, 1 ring, on ALL Anniversary teams, number retired)_ - Bob Cousy _(MVP, _*_6 rings,_*_ on ALL Anniversary teams, number retired)_ - Jerry West / The Logo - Kobe Bryant - Hakeem The Dream Olajuwon Those who think Kobe is too low at around #15 all-time, that's just extremely heavy recency bias. And being in the top 15 is crazy high, given the many great legends who have played in the NBA. He is not in any way superior or more accomplished than the guys above him there. Calm down. History is something that many people don't enjoy thinking about, but just because you didn't see a guy play doesn't mean he wasn't more accomplished or feared on the hardwood than a more recent player.

He just isn't, never was. Wilt? Bird? BILL RUSSELL?? All those guys would have beaten him 1-on-1 on most days (Russell edged Wilt most of the time in actual contests, and Bird got the better of Magic most often), and all were better with and for their teams, and in clutch moments. And I wouldn't even entertain putting him above Kareem or Jordan.

@@AsifKhan-hf9zy I get it. There's a great argument for him, and maybe I'm leaving him out of the top 10 unfairly. I just never considered Duncan to be as good as any of those guys. He played so well within his team, and for one system, and had such consistency around him in his career. I just don't think he stood out or had the same adversity as those 16 other guys. Who had an easier road than Tim Duncan? But I'm fine with putting him somewhere in that mix, I just had a hard time putting him above those guys, and never being a fan, maybe I'm biased against him. You could throw Hondo Havlicek in there too, but I left him out for kinda the same reasons - though like most people today, I'm a lot less familiar with him.
