1:17 "why is it such a big thing to have a car drive like in real life?" You answered that question with the previous 2: Most people never drove a GT3 car, and most importantly most of us never will. Therefore, having having a simulation that will make people experience racing as closely as possible is an important factor for a sim. There's plenty of fun and "non-realistic" games out there; it would be nice to have at least one that resembles a real life racing car.

I totally agree. I think because I probably won’t ever drive a real GT3, it’s great to have a sim which simulates the behaviour and feeling a real car would give you. That’s why it’s called a simulation, because it’s supposed to simulate the real world.

Well said. Although both arguments are valid, I probably would lean towards your argument and in this regard ACC definitely wins over iRacing. Feels so much more detailed because of the higher refresh rate (nearly 7 times faster now)

When I first started playing ACC. It was on my series X. Pretty limited with FFB settings. It just didn't feel right. Too loose. So once I got it on PC, my 10 year old son had a pretty good idea. Him and I got in my car and drove around the block. I mean I drive obviously lol. But then came right back to my rig and made some little adjustments. Then repeated this a few more times. I gotta say, my sim wheel feels about as close to the steering in my Mazda 3 now. When I've spent hours in the rig and then jump off to run to the store, it actually feels familiar and seem less. I have upgraded stiffer suspension. My wheel base is a TH TS-XW with a Sparco 310. This may sound dumb or pointless to some people but I swear it has helped me get the rig setup perfectly for me. I adjusted the pedal and my seating position to mirror my real car. So, maybe someone else will give the same thing a try. I think outside of the G forces felt in your butt and body while in a real vehicle, that if you get all of your FFB settings figured out. It's about as close as one can get. I hoped on a friend's rig with iRacing (he has the exact same wheel base and similar setup) and iRacing felt kinda of hollow. Not nearly as connected where the digital rubber hits the road. It's a great sim, just feels dated. Anyway, yeah maybe tune your rig to feel like your real car. May help y'all get an even better feel. Enjoy your laps folks! 👍😎

Being realistic is the number one thing because when a game is this deep and requires this amount of commitment you want the skills to be transferable to other games of that type, so the easiest way to get the sims to be a shared discipline is to have them all strive to be as close to reality as possible. It also has the benefit of having solid metrics for the developers to measure against. So yes being close to reality is the entire point regardless of wether the players will ever experience the real thing or care about it

If you want to call it a SIMULATION then having it drive, handle and behave like its real life counterparts is a very important part of the equation. There have been several actual real world drivers of Blancain GT3 series cars has stated that after a few adjustments ACC had the cars where they drove like their real life counterparts. To me that is about as good of an endorsement that a PC game could hope to obtain where it refers to realism. iRacing on the other hand in my opinion the cars in particular on cold tires remind me of almost trying to drive on icy roads. Yes grip levels are down as compared to full temp tires with the lower tire pressures and cold rubber but not to the degree of what it feels like in iRacing. Even ACC has is more correct there if you have ever driven on a race track on race rubber. iRacing may be the only game in town when it comes to oval racing or some classes of road racing but when it comes to gt3/gt4 racing ACC does the actual simulation of the cars better in my opinion which comes from watching the racing and the statements of some real world race drivers. As far as the online aspect and public races iRacing is better but it does also offer that at a premium cost for both purchasing the cars and track content and paying a monthly subscription fee to keep those purchases usable. With iRacing you never really own the content you only rent it as you must have an active subscription to use it even for offline use. That is my biggest gripe against iRacing, either sell the content for unlimited use on or offline OR require a subscription to play the game but requiring both is too far over the top and to much.

I don't think iRacing is too pricey. I don't think people realise how much it costs to run so many servers and the staff to maintain them. Think about it. For 13$ per month you have daily races. Sometimes every other hour. And you only need to purchase the car you want to drive and the tracks needed for the series. Ofc if you want to drive absolutly everything, iRacing is expensive. But it is a multiplayer first sim. It's your choice how much you want to spend on it. No other sim delivers an online experience like iRacing. And btw. I only paid for like 3 months or so. It's not worth it for me. But i won't say it is too pricey.

Done both iRacing and ACC. The thing where iRacing hits a homerun is indeed the online system. Currently there are 2 full time series where GT3-drivers can compete. One is a sprint series with races lasting around 40 minutes and IMSA where races take around 45 and sometimes 60, depending on the 12 week based season. Race starts are every 2 hours. So if 'Race A' starts at 13.45 , 'Race 2' starts at 15.45. Where ACC hits it out of the ball park is the sheer experience of racing these cars. "Feel, sound, visuals" are on a powerlevel over 9000. And now for the blunders, where unfortunately for iRacers, iRacing just has a tad too many of. Pricing is awful! From subscription to buying a car, all tracks to race, prices for setups from providers to be SOMEWHAT competitive are skyrocketing as well and the baseline setup iRacing offers, will not get you anywhere I'm afraid. Building your own setup might take you so much time practicing you will barely make to get a race in before the week is over to get that rating that was praised in this video. The backslides in iRacing are awful as well. iRacing isn't dubbed 'iCeRacing' affectionately/mockingly without a reason. ACC has blunders too, just not as prevalent to the racing itself, but more to the stuff around it. Licensing is one of them and while making/downloading favorite custom liveries is possible, your options are limited and not as streamlined as anyone would like. Blunder 2 is the online service, it feels hollow and useless. Sure, you can join a league through obscure and hidden away forums and that's all fine and dandy but when I want to race 12 to 28 random strangers on a certain point of the day, I want it to mean something, I want competitive rankings, rankings based on safety, stats, records, personal bests, all-time best laptimes. These are just not present in ACC in any meaningful way. So these were the biggest hits and misses from both ACC and iRacing. I hope you are better informed after having read this and if you have any questions, I will look forward to some of the replies down below. Cheers!

100% agree. I wish ACC had an online system similar to iracing, I know it would be a massive money investment for kunos, but iracing has shown that sim racers are willing to pay a subscription for the online racing for the company to maintain online severs and upkeep. If ACC was able to do that without charging for each car and track like iracing it would be a homerun. I don't know what's holding them back from doing it?

I feel like another point that should be made is weather. ACC has rain implemented which can make the racing itself more dynamic as you would have to readjust your electronic settings (ECU map, TC, ABS) and also determine if Wet or slicks are the best option too during your stint. iRacing doesn't have rain, which could make it seem like a hotlap simulator compared to ACC.

Personally I think ACC takes the cake for me. Especially when you get in on Low Fuel Motorsports eco system (similar in how iRacing goes about things). I did iRacing for a year and couldn't stomach the costs associated with it. Its too darn expensive especially when I can only get in 4 hrs a week on a sim. The other issue I have when it comes to "sim racing" is that there is this notion that the cars have to be hard to drive. When going at a "comfortable" pace (lets say 90%) in a lot of sims (iRacing included) the car just feels on edge already. From personal experience in karting and formula cars that is just a weird thing and just isn't right. Generally, these cars feel on rails when running at 90% as it should but that 100% is when things feel on edge and your pushing the boundaries of what the vehicle can handle. ACC does a great job IMO where its easy to drive at 90% but things get much harder when maxing out. Also, ACC does a good job with curb usage as well. ACC doesn't let you get away with clobbering curbs but you can properly use your inside front tire on it to get that right rotation and weight transfer to get around fast. Other sims like iRacing you get one of two things when properly executing curb usage.... 1) the curb tosses the car outward essentially kicking you wide and likely in the grass on exit or 2) you get over come with oversteer and you get spun around almost immediately.

My 4 corner system, and pedal feedback system were a complete mess, my simucube pro felt like a Logitech wheel and the ACC VR graphics were so bad in comparison to iRacing VR. It made my 4080 card look like a 3080 card. Iracing does not have amazing graphics but they are smooth and stable. Mirror graphics are so good in iracing VR. I won’t delete ACC because I would like to have something to do in case I want to race during an iRacing scheduled downtime. Even if it is something as bad as ACC. Makes me appreciate a proper sim

Great Vid! I do think realism should be a category personally. Since I will never be fortunate enough to be able to drive an actual GT3 car, I want the closest to life possible version of that in a sim. If that means less/more FFB, easier or harder to drive, or a bit less fun, thats ok if I have comfort knowing thats as close to possible as real life (especially as a VR driver). For the thrill of the drive I still hop on RF2 to hotlap from time to time, but iRacing is so dang convenient to online race at any time it's worth the extra to me. Not to mention it runs incredibly in VR while ACC is uh... ya know in VR.

Given the choice, if I were just picking "what will I pick to race right now?" and nothing else considered I'd be picking ACC, but I think the way things are ACC is best for the dedicated esports racer who has access to well organised leagues, but falls down for casual daily racing. I do think if there were a dedicated push by Kunos to support a system similar to iRacing it would immediately become everyone's first choice. Also, as someone who has doen work on the scheduling for the GT3 series in iRacing a lot over the years I have to disagree on the "same 10 tracks" point. The selection process is tuned specifically to avoid this, and tracks can't appear in the schedule more than twice every calendar year.

Interesting that somebody would pick ACC over iRacing for anything really. You said you iRaced in the past, not sure if you still do not not, but your comment strikes me as somebody who sits right around the 1.5 to 1.7k irating range, not bad, but not good enough as a sim racer to appreciate how good the car really is. How do we get kunos to give us a more structured, goal orientated online system?
@brotakul
@brotakul 3 жыл бұрын
Historically, Kunos relied on community and modders to develop specific areas of their game's experience. And while with ACC and it's licensing this meant modders could not add any additional in-game content such as cars or tracks, solutions like The Sim Grid, Low Fuel Motorsport and simracing.gp stepped up to offer a more comprehensive experience of the open online racing, in addition to the more standard league racing. Given the amount of effort already put into these services, just like SRS did with AC1 and now RaceU continues to do at some extent, I don't think Kunos will try to compete in this area. And it's been 3 years since the game was launched and the development seems to slow down constantly as ACC reached a decent maturity level, so it's really too late for them to do anything about it that they didn't account for in the original project plan. At this point Kunos probably starts shifting the focus on the development of AC2 behind closed doors as the new game is announced to be released in 2024, which makes it even less probable that Kunos would make any major changes or new feature implementations in ACC in the future. For what is worth, ACC as it stands right now, is the final product that may only receive minor patches and bug fixes in the near future, until AC2 hits the shelves. That's at least my take on the matter.

 @Utkarsh Chaurasia I don't feel that the most recent update made it closer to ACC at all. In what way do you feel that it has? If we are talking tire model then they are not even close as iRacing fully simulates the entire tire. In regards to tyre pressure, it depends on how you drive. I want my tyre pressure to end up around 27.5 to 28.5 after the tires warm up. After running the Audi R8 LMS at Mid Ohio my tire temps and pressures were very close to what they were in real life when I ran there. Grant it i was a bit more abusive on them in iRacing. No fear of destroying a car or getting hurt in the sim and all, but I was close enough to race pace. There are some things I think iRacing needs to work on in regards to their tire model, and one of them is the starting pressures. For the most part though, I have found quite a few people take it more seriously and want to make it to the end of the race. If you can qualify well, you'll be with a group of other drivers that probably have practiced and have some sense. Speaking of practice, if you join practice lobbies you'll start seeing the same people almost every day. You sort of build up a group of drivers and it keeps getting better. Ppl talk about cost but getting a deal every 2 Black Fridays and buying 2 years at a time makes it cost $7/month. If that is prohibitive, idk how you'd ever budget to afford a wheel, let alone a sim rig. Honestly, i'd expect something that sounds like that from a game that came out a decade ago, Not in 2021. If the audio guy in iRacing is adamant they have the best sound out of the two, then they need to look at getting someone else. That kind of arrogance is what's holding them back IMO. Every single race is full of tryhards- no casual players. It gives a nice feeling that you race in some league in real life (I am racing in real life also). This game is far more competitive than any other sim on the market. You do not sit into car for 1h per week to win anything in real life- the same in iRacing. You train for a few days for 3-4h per day to even start first race of the week to drive on the edge of the seat for 1h or 45minutes race for 110% of your comfort zone. After that you are all sweat, hearth is pumping blood as creazy during every start of the race. In ACC you race for nothing. In comparision I would play ACC if simracign would be just a relax after work. When you sank into it and you are racing for points, for results, not for fun- iRacing is the only option. ACC- great game and sim, great car feeling- cheap option. iRacing- great racing simulator and very expensive option for someone that is lacking money- for me in comparision to real trackday costs its nothing. I have almost all the sims on the market- and I always return to iRacing. It makes you frustrated, makes you scared about your evening. Makes you want to rip off you steering wheel of the rig and destroy screens. I already destroyed my Oculus after being collided in the end of very important 24h race. If you put it into a scale of Doom 3 being the most unrealistic racing sim to iRacing being the most realistic you can see there’s an advantage of being close to real. In the context of sims, it’s not really a matter of if you have or ever will drive a GT3 car, it’s the psychics of driving that are the important part with closer to real being the advantage, because we are all pretending we are real world race drivers. I am brand new to both games. iRacing online setup is MASSIVE, I am someone who is highly interested in playing in a professional environment regardless of cost, with good online competition, rankings, etc. I have a controller right now, so I cannot vouch for anything to do with the vehicles handling but I will say that iracing is appearing to be more promising for the racing experience, online experience, and actually taking events and such. As far as ACC goes, it seems like a more forgiving potentially "less realistic" rear-end sliding, however, I have never driven the cars in real life so I really can't say anything but the "forgiveness" of ACC vehicles, as I have never driven a GT3 car I can't actually comment about it. In-case you guys missed it, the point behind this is if you haven't driven a GT3 car in real life on a track you should just shut the fuck up and play the game you enjoy most

I drive a lot on track in real life and i’ve always thought that acc was just easy mode, far too forgiving at the limit, on the flip side iracing was artificially more difficult.. i think that boils down to the tyre model, for example when the gt3 cup porsche span, that was an obvious flaw in the tyre model at a specific point (slow corners) i wish they would get it right.. also on the grass and sand in iracing is like driving on ice, another huge irritation. I think if iracing could address those inconsistencies and make it a bit more forgiving (S4 gt3 tyres have done a good job here) then i think iRacing would (for me at least) be the leader in realism.. i like how in iracing you need to spend time with the cars and learn how they work before you are competitive. In acc you can just jump in anything and be quick straight away which i dont find that rewarding.
@th3orist
@th3orist 3 жыл бұрын
i get where you come from but to me ACC has this good old "easy to learn, hard to master" vibe going for itself. Yes its 'easy' to jump in and be reasonably fast, but with GT3 cars its all about the last 5% that you either can squeeze out of them or not, and thats where the learning curve gets very steep.

1:08 I'm sorry but that is a fundamentally flawed argument. The reason why us "sim racers" care about realism is because WE WILL NEVER get to drive these cars in real life. That's why having an uber realistic sim racing title like ACC/iRacing/AMS2/rFactor2 combined with high end sim rigs gives us a glimpse into what it feels to be driving these race cars. If you just want to have fun without immersion, a G29+Forza is gonna do just fine. Anyone who's spending over 10k on a sim rig wants to experience realism. To suggest otherwise is just wrong.

From what I am getting from this video is AAC is closer to an arcade Sim. Multiple people have said AAC cars easier to handle. But is the car that easy to handle in real life? I mean he pretty much opened up with “you don’t know what’s real so who cares.”

ACC is the better sim imo. The problem is as someone in the US finding competitive online racing is next to impossible. Unless you find a 3rd party site and even then the balance of skill is typically massive. ACC is a single player title in my eyes and iracing is actual online racing. I wish ACC had iracings online system, that would be the dream.

iRacing or ACC, I chose Raceroom... From the comparison above I would probably go for iRacing though as I will value accessibility of races to enter quite high once I think I'm ready for real races (Raceroom is not great in this departement either). I do already own ACC though... In ACC I have never been able to enter a race, partly because I ruined my safety rating in the campaign mode (I'm not sure I understood this part fully but I switched to Raceroom and have yet to come back to ACC). iRacing, however, has a horrible payment model so I have not tried that game at all and I do not think I will unless I'm 'forced' by some competition only available at that platform.

In my opinion the tire pressures being SO important in ACC kills the fun quite a bit. Also the force feedback on iracing is objectively better (yes the 60hz is worse than the ACC 400hz) iRacing doesn't have all those added in effects like ACC and many other games. That is because you don't feel it in real life! These extra effects are added in to make it a bit easier but therefore are unrealistic. Also i agree with Dan's argument about the graphics. iRacing is way more natural and especially the movement of the cars is amazing. In replays you can see every tiny move the car makes while in most other sims the cars look a bit floaty and not so lively

Yea - the point here is with ACC you got only GT3 and GT4 cars - iRacing can give you so many different options and GT3/GT4 - driving alone ACC is looking better IMO but iRacing is getting there ! Racing online is on iRacing 100% but this comes with higher cost of using. I was skeptical at first but then I joined and its 9 years of constant racing - swapping series, taking a brakes to come back with stronger participation. Now I bought ACC but I guess it will be just offline racing for me - fun only, almost arcade like.

I guess there is not way around this. The elephant in the room in this debate is cost. I think sp1878 has a point as if one is willing to pony up the cash for iRacing it only makes sense they have a wheel and pedals. TBH my biggest problem with iRacing is at the cost you think they would be keeping this game on the cutting edge. Think they are starting to realize this and hopefully we will see continued updates the to the game. For me if I want to run GT3's or GT4's it is ACC all the way and iRacing if I want to run ovals or MX5's.

They haven’t even given ACC an update in 2 months and iRacing updates every week; a game that came out in 2008.
