Well. If my 10 years of sim racing have taught me something is that for a consistent and sucessful race you need two things only : Patience and Pace. Unless you´re in a drag race, these two things will help you to be always at front. Practice a track until you have it on your muscular memory. 100 laps in a track is mandatory. Also, people think setups does miracles. They drive 10 laps in track and goes to the setup screen hoping for a miracle setting to give then 0.5 seconds down the time table. This is not gonna happen. Go back to the track and drive, until you absolutely can´t shave anything else from your times, and at least can do consistently 7 or 10 laps at the same pace. Then, just then you go back to pit an try to tweak your car. Pole position is awesome, but it´s over estimated. The pressure is always on P1. Use that in your advantage if you´re P2, and don´t try to win the race on the first corner. And finally. Practice is everything. Some people practice more, and have more time than you do, and they will suceed more. But don´t let this keeping you from having fun online. Offcourse, we all wanna win races and be at the top of the podium. But racing is much more , you can still enjoy a good race being in the middle field, battling for positions, defending, overtaking. But this is personal, i know. Some people don´t have fun if they don´t win. It´s sad. I wish they could. I said finally but there´s on more tip: If you don´t earn money with race sims, it´s a hobby. It´s supposed to be fun and relaxing. Don´t lose your shit online.

Useful info, but for new people I would recommend to concentrate more on learning the track, lines and overall control on the car rather than pace - especially if we talking about race. Remember that you can gain more when being a bit slower, but doing consistent laps, than when pushing too hard, hot lapping, destroying tyres or going off the track. You can easily destroy tyres by one spin and you will loose much more time because of that (spin and then lack of the grip around the track). As you said - it's complex stuff and everybody can struggle in different aspect of simracing :)

When it comes to pit stops on iRacing, I always pit before we approach a group of backmarkers, especially at tracks hard to get by them like Bathurst. If I feel like I'm faster than the person I'm battling against AND feel like I could lose even just a half a second from a backmarker, I'll pit early. Pulled this so many times at Bathurst, and each time I came out ahead by 2-3 seconds.

Most important thing is to learn the track before you race on it. There is no shame spending an hour in practice mode. Or racing against AI. It'll help you build up pace and consistency for the real racing. Nothing worse than hopping into a race online, then causing a massive crash in the last lap because you didn't know how your car would handle with worn out tires on that track.

I would be faster probably if my G29 shifter paddles would shift properly. I know the cars have limits to shifting but I have played with it and it is definitely the down shift paddle that is causing problems. So, I ordered the Moza R5 package along with the brake mod and clutch pedal. If nothing else, I will verify if it is my fault or that paddle shifter. But either way it will be a good upgrade with direct drive wheel.

It mainly comes down to engine placement. Front engine cars (aston and bentley) are generally more stable, wether on kerbs or not because the weight in the front makes the car want to go straight. Think of them like a badminton ball.

Setups are unfortunately probably just as important, if not more, as what's in this video. I gained 1.5 seconds with the Audi at the Nurburgring just by copying some toe camber and caster settings from a stream. But when I have no setup, I can't hope to compete with anyone who does. I really wish we had a way to run fixed setups on regular online servers. As long as the setup is good to drive.
@Ghost1973 жыл бұрын
it's more like you need a setup that fit to your driving style and that is giving you confidence to push. Some people can be fast on default aggressive setups for one car, but some need totally different setup to control the car. You can gain some time if you cant push because of that, but you cant get magically time with setup (maybe few tenths of a second) ;P

@@GuitarCraftMiner if you are talking about AC1, there's an in game app called The Setup Market, you can download setups when in track for your car, do a search in racedepartment about that and download it. If you are talking about ACC, i think the default agressive and safe setups already are very good for most of cases and if fixed setup servers exists, they would use them edit: oh f*ck, The setup Market is down... try to find another app like that, maybe there's an alternative
@Erowens983 жыл бұрын
Tbh i've never found much time in setups in ACC. Aside from getting the tire pressure right which can make up for seconds. A good setup might gain me .25s per lap. Which isn't insignificant. But isn't night and day either.

What do you mean by smooth inputs? Would you not want to pivot your car as quickly as possible so that you don't waist your time turning and managing weight transfer? The sooner your car has all the grip between all 4 tires the sooner you can get on a max throttle. Obviously this varies depending on fast vs slow corner. I feel most of these kind of videos don't really help you to get into the top percentile performance.
@10mmGR3 жыл бұрын
If you turn the wheel to fast the car doesn't have time to grip up and will just be scrubbing the tires at that point
@InUrSide3 жыл бұрын
The first 10-20% of a turn I establish grip of the tires, then I'm able to really turn in and grab the apex to push out on throttle
@Ghost1973 жыл бұрын
remember that tyres need to split the grip between braking and turning - if you turn too much (or brake too much) you have not enough grip and you will not slow down enough or have understeer and go wide. You need to drive as close as possible to using 100% of grip
@Erowens983 жыл бұрын
No video is gonna get your into the top percentile. Thats something only hundreds of hours of practice can give you. These videos are to help people get to "good enough" skill to where they can survive a race and not come last.

@bill wiley Makes the 2 of us ! Same here. I think just like you. I drove for monthsss Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO and I know the car inside out, all my setups are done for all weather conditions and all temperatures for every track. Raced almost on all tracks with the Lambo and had good results with it. Now I consider to take an other car and do the same thing like setups and racing at all the tracks in all conditions so that I also know that car inside out. Then at the end I did every car that I love. My favorites are: Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO, BMW M6 GT3, Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO, Porsche GT3, Ferrari 488 GT3 EVO, Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO, Bentley Continental GT3 2018, Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo,… Aston Martin, Mclaren, Lexus, Honda, Jaguar, Nissan are the least favorites 🏁🏁🏁
