Yah basically what we we're doing is like, gradually phasing things out. Some things are easy, like dairy milk (I think it all tastes spoilt and my spouse is lactose intolerant). We still eat shrimp/crawfish and eggs and cheese but we're phasing cheese out. Shrimp/crawfish and eggs is going to be more difficult bc of it being such a big part of our regional economy (living by the Gulf in a demi-rural area) so supporting local farmers and fishers is important. So it's something we're backandforth on. But i was surprised how easy it was to make one swap at a time.

Wuuut, you absolutely have to soak beans. Pinto beans are just a bad example (I agree that it makes virtually no difference), but other beans will cook 2-3 times longer than if you soaked them first. I often cook chickpeas from scratch and routinely forget to soak them so I should know :D one solution is to soak them for an hour in hot water, but I find that even then they take forever to cook. Also, it really depens on how thick the peel is, not on the size of the beans.

But that is kind of strange. There is "head cheese", which has no dairy in it. It's a meat product, and there's "meat cheese" (that's at least what they call it in Croatian) sold at Lidl this week, as a part of their October Fest theme. If meat can be called cheese, how come plants can't be? I also noticed the soy drink, rice drink, oat drink, etc, and it confused me at first (I recently abandoned eating animal products), because "soy milk" has always been called "soy milk". That's what it's called, in the same manner as "head cheese". When something is called just a "drink" it usually means it's not good quality and kind of fake. Something called "orange drink" that is sold in a juice package will have more water and added sugar than a juice, and "milk drink" means it's not 100% milk. (That exists. There's a cheap "milk" sold here in former Yugoslavia which looks and tastes like cow milk, but it's only 50 % actual milk. At first I thought the "soy drink" in the stores wasn't soy milk, but something of bad quality, just like the 50 % "milk drink".

The "fluffy" pretzels sometimes contain lard, its added to make them shiny. (At least in Bavaria)
@CocoLicious4 жыл бұрын
While regionally in Bavaria some pretzels contain lard, it's normally in the dough and the shine comes from the time they spend in the lye. Cheap pretzels like from Aldi sometimes contain milk. The traditional recipe is vegan, though.

Regarding you saying "hate" and other things around your children: One of the benefits of having children is that they make you a better person...because if you are a good parent, or want to be a good parent, you start seeing the world (and yourself) from their perspective. Kids copy so much of what we do. So, we try to live up to what we want for our children. And that's a good thing. Another important parental thing is to fill the child with a positive, hopeful view...like we don't want them to hate the world, hate people, be paranoid that people won't like them or that they have to look a certain way, etc....So, we tell them "you is kind, you is smart, you is important" and fill their life with love and joy.

On the plastic straws thing: One thing I love about you is that you always default to basic math when it comes to the potential effectiveness of not purchasing animal products. “If t’en fewer people buy bacon for a month, maybe the meat department manager says hmm, We didn’t sell much bacon this week, or the last three weeks, let’s order one less case of bacon,” being an example I remember you giving in response to someone challenging the potential impact of not buying bacon. So why when it’s declining plastic straws is it all googling for rejoinders on the potential impact? If almost no one wants a straw, the restaurant will probably stop ordering so many straws, the straw maker will have lots left over, he might decide to reduce production, less straws made, less straws exist, less straws in the world. I feel like you give the benefit of the basic math to the bacon, but not the straws.

Hey Swayze! Would it be possible, that you make a video about Sarah Therese's liver cleans? She takes beef pills for vitamin A bc she said you only get 3% of vitamin A from like a carrot and isn't allowed to eat a banana bc...well...it's bad when you cleans your liver? But still eats chicken...I don't know I'm so confused at this point. She made a bunch of videos about this whole diet and I was wondering if this has any kind of science based proof or is it just another fad diet like those detox teas and powders and stuff like that. Ow and by the way...you are so amazing!!
@sarahmarah4 жыл бұрын
I haven‘t heard about the beef pill thing but in general i think she is spreading a lot of pseudo-science based information, especially when it comes to „detoxing“ and „cleansing“ yur body. I.e. putting activated charcoal in you smoothie for detox, which is just bs. My guess is that the liver cleanse can be put in that same category.
@auroras.20154 жыл бұрын
@@sarahmarah Totally agreeing with you! That beef pill thing was just in one video and I think she takes it for her acne. But she mentioned she has some sort of Vitamin A deficiency and takes those pills because of it.

For the nail video you didn’t understand. People sometimes use strands of silk to make their acrylic nails stronger, but using the hair is “vegan” because it’s your own hairs.

Re:the guy making nail extensions from his hair, shellac is typically used for acrylic extensions (they glue a plastic nail onto your nail and use a brush to apply the shellac on top to give a smooth nail-like consistency and shape). Shellac is made out of lac beetle secretions, and also the brush used is normally sable. So it isn't vegan. I've seen videos of people using weird crap like ramen as a replacement before, you can just buy a vegan alternative tho.

12:24 - First, that's from the Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. And secondly, I think I can shed some light on the GoT thing. I read the books as they came out, and when a buddy told me it was becoming a series, I meant to watch it(didn't have HBO), knowing full well there was no way to properly adapt those stories to another medium properly. Of my social circle that watched GoT, only about a quarter of them read the books. I made a deal with some of them that I'd try the series if they read the books. Thus far, the show has done better than I gave them credit for, but I knew it couldn't last long before everyone raged about the last season.

I do keto and the idea that people approach it with ground beef and butter and thats their diet...oh my god. I have a huge selection of dark and leafy greens as the bulk of my diet (lots of fibre is something that keto newbies seem to overlook) and olive oil is your best friend. If you're going to only eat bacon and cheese and then get shocked that your health deteriorates...well, I don't think I can politely finish that sentiment 😂 Balance is key no matter your chosen diet, cast a wide net and make sure you get your nutrients! It's shocking that so much ignorance still exists towards vegans when the internet exists.
