I like them both. I love a Wharncliffe& Sheepsfoot blade.

I second that the unknown is a Ohta FK series. Beautiful handmade piece with a sakura (cherry) handle. The steel is D2.

The unknown one looks like the Hiroaki Ohta friction folder.

I remember now when I found it, but I still don't remember where. I was looking for all sorts of traditional Japanese knives... I know I didn't pay the $70 that the FK5 sells for but I just don remember where I got it.

Hi Jake. Take a look at Blade HQ. (=> www.bladehq.com/?search=ohta+fk5 ) Greetings from Germany grizzly1962

Nice simple knives that anyone will be able to use and enjoy., reminds me of the Svord Peasant. Thanks for the review.
@CanadianCuttingEdge6 жыл бұрын
It has the same type of Russlock system on the Peasant. That is a style of knife that is quite old

I got two of the heavier ones cause I liked it so much. they make for great camping cook knives! super solid and thick, thanks for another great review!

This is your story detective? lol

BD H lol wtf does that mean?
@bdh39496 жыл бұрын
Earlier comment was in reference to "...this is their story" spoken in the introduction to every episode (434+) of the long-running (20 years) TV series Law & Order SVU in reference to the arresting detectives in the series starring the Emmy award winning actress and daughter of Jane Mansfield, Mariska Hargitay, as Detective Olivia Benson,,,at least in the U.S. Out of context it would obviously have no meaning nor humor.

BD H lol I get it now. I've never even seen that show though. lol I only knew who Mariska was through the love guru. sorry for your joke going right over my head lol

I have the Eafengrow. Great little bargain EDC blade. Takes a wicked edge and is legal pretty much anywhere.
@CanadianCuttingEdge6 жыл бұрын
Indeed, at less than 3" on the blade and as a russlock system there are not many places where you can't take it.

My Eafengrow is the same as this. I love it. The other knife is not mahogany.

The red one is branded Slydll at gearbest. It seems it is the same knife and looks very interesting. Thanks for the review Jake
@CanadianCuttingEdge6 жыл бұрын
Yes, for the price I think it is a reasonable purchase. It isn't the best to show too many knives that come from Amazon.com because they usually only ship knives to USA and then the rest of the world doesn't have any - that is why I showed the SLYDLL. I had forgotten to put the links in the video description section, but it is there now.

Even though I bought one for the collection ......I am unsure what the point of a Russlock is....

got my eafengrow from amazon. Mine says D2 stamped on the blade.. Chinese D2 of course...
@CanadianCuttingEdge6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, sometimes it is real D2 but often it is some basic stainless steel

Here you can see some modifications that I made, give the blade a satin finish and heat anodized pocket clip. image.ibb.co/kFh3h8/IMG_20180622_140658828_LL_01.jpg

I've got a knife which looks exactly like the Eafenagrow but just different brand ( it's Voltron if I remember correctly) . They're about the same price too. Same factory or probably the same company?
@CanadianCuttingEdge6 жыл бұрын
Yes, Voltron and Eafengrow, and MANY other brands all use the same original knives from the same factories. These brands make none, or VERY few of their own knives. Instead they buy knives that are blank - no writing on them at all - and then put their own names on them and sell them as their own. I call them "rebranders".
@tangamat21286 жыл бұрын
WOW!! Thank you for your info. You're a really walking knife wiki!! I'm so glad that I subbed your channel that day. 👍👍👍👍

Thank you for doing this. I’ve wanted to check them out. I am the type that gets all kinds of knives however uniqueness in locks or classic designs always are a must add. Great video as always.

Very eclectic pair of knives. I know you have younger viewers, but the name just writes it's own playground dirty jokes. And yes, I am 10 years old. Lol. Great review, Jake.

You are one of the coolest 10 year old boys I know - thanks for watching my channel since you were 8 :) I have no idea what the right way to say that name is, but I had to say it somehow, so I decided Ef'n-grow was the way to go.

they are NOT russlock styled, the russlock is newer than these knives design by hundreds of years, the unknow is a ohta fk5 or fk7, it is a higonokami knife, a traditional style of japanese knife dating back as early as the 1890's the "russlock" part you are refering to is the chikiri which is a type of friction folder lever, NOTHING TO DO WITH RUSSLOCK edit: ohta are pricier than nagao higonokamis as the use integral wood frame and d2 tool steel, they are great little blades but not hard use, more like food prep and pencil sharpening
