Coming back here after i got my first job as a doctor, i can't believe so much time has passed since i was worried about my biochemistry exam. i remember watching these videos and knowing your voice so well. just a reminder that what seems to be the biggest hurdle in your life right now may be an insignificant detail years later. thank you for everything.

Fructose 1.6 Phosphate= phosphogluco Isomarase + Glucose-6-phosphate. Step 3. Fructose 1.6 BiPhosphate = Phosphofructo Kinase + Frutose1.6 Phosphate

Thank you for your awesome lectures, they have helped me a lot in understanding these processes. You are really clear and good at explaining :) About step 8: my teacher in biochemistry told us that the enzyme phosphoglycerate mutase already has a phosphate group attached to itself, and uses this in the reaction. This suggests that i'ts not the same phosphate that "moves around" on the 3-phosphoglycerate molecule to create the 2-phosphoglycerate molecule, it's a "new" one donated from the enzyme phosphoglycerate mutase. What do you think about that? Thank you once again! Best wishes from Sweden

In step number 7 I dont think there is supposed to be an H+ in the reactants because the mechanism is a substrate level phosphorylation. It should read 1,3-BPG + ADP ---> 3PG + ATP but correct me if I am wrong
@victorwainaina25846 жыл бұрын
Why wouldn't it do so though? Asking because I'm dumb and need a more thorough answer besides "substrate level phosphorylation" Edit: Actually yeah, I think I see the lack of a need for a H+ there.
@raanoooshh92964 жыл бұрын
He explains that in step 10, H+ must be present along with ADP so the phosphoryl group can leave from the molecule... I think.

Step 7: why is it called phosphoglycerate KINASE when it acts like a phosphatase? Yes, it acts like a kinase to ATP, but in that case why do they refer to phosphoglycerate?
@nevvinraj80704 жыл бұрын
It catalyses both the forward and reverse processes (remember that gluconeogenesis is a reverse process of glycolysis). Also, enzymes are biological catalysts, meaning, in a reversible reaction, it catalyses both the forward and reverse reactions equally without being biased to one over another. Hope it helps.
