This video is an overview of the Roland SE-02 Analog Synthesizer - designed in collaboration with Studio Electronics - as part of the Roland Boutique Designer Series.
The SE-02 Analog Synthesizer features three types of cross modulation (XMOD), a ripping filter feedback loop, a tempo-syncing LFO with nine waveforms, envelope sweeping and inverting, oscillator sync, a noise generator, and a tempo-syncing delay.
The SE-02 comes with a performance sequencer and 500+ expertly crafted preset patches so you can start making inspiring music now.
We recommend the use of high-quality headphones or studio monitors for the best listening experience.

Absolutely beautiful, both in sound and design. I love the JP-08, JU-06, and JX-03, but this Designer Series is definitely "next level" Boutique hardware. Very excited for the SE-02!

This is probably the best of the Roland "boutique" products. It sounds like a real synthesizer. Not saying the others, or plug-outs are junk, they're not. But if you are looking for the grit and warmth of an analog synth, this has it, more than the JD-XA maybe.

Good to see the delay parameters exposed, I really like how the designers have got rid of the ribbon touch strips, I really disliked menu diving in the other boutiques and having to control every hidden parameter with the strips! For the next synth can we have two state variable filters (LP/HP/BP) with parallel/serial routing for formant sounds pretty pretty please? I would be happy with two filters and one osc, but you know you wanna chuck another osc in there for good measure!!

To what degree is the synthesizer analog? For example, are the knobs potentiometers changing resistance through analog circuits? Or are the knobs digital interfaces that emulates analog digitally?

Can anyone help me, please? Basically, I got this synth today but it is doing my head in, When I save pattern 1 in the user bank it is ok, I get the preset sounds and the notes I inserted in pattern 1, but when I try to save pattern 2 in the user bank with different notes it save pattern 2 but the notes don’t save and it saves the same notes as in the pattern 1, this is driving me crazy that I feel like breaking this machine. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Also, how do you copy and paste notes and patterns? I like the sounds of this synth but it looks like a toy, cheap plastic shit, and a bit confused with this patch and sequence Anyone who knows about this can help me, please? Thanks a lot

@chemicalBR0

its a classic layout and with all the interest these days in modular stuff and synths going more traditional and retro I think the design makes a lot of sense. not a clone as such but a tip of the hat to great design. it doesn't sound like a D tho for most of the patches (obviously it could sound like one for some patches but then so could practically any 3 osc synth with a ladder filter)

why do some synths have a frequency knob for oscillators and some don;t?
@journalofdesertstrikelegac573
@journalofdesertstrikelegac573 Жыл бұрын
it's up to the synth designer. All OSCs on synths have some control of frequency. Sometimes it's labeled pitch, semitones, or octave, but those are all different ways of saying the same thing
@solomonjenkins9505
@solomonjenkins9505 Жыл бұрын
@@journalofdesertstrikelegac573 5 years later XD but like some synths have two oscs, one with a frequency knob and one where it's just blank, like the sub37 for example. Both have octave control, but that is far less fine tuned
@journalofdesertstrikelegac573
@journalofdesertstrikelegac573 Жыл бұрын
@@solomonjenkins9505 With the sub37, here it is just the hardware designer's choice. I'm not familiar with sub37 operation, but sounds like OSC2 can be a modulator which is why it has the fine frequency tune. OSC1 is meant only for audio and the octave knob with keyboard is what the designer wanted. The designer probably thought a fine tune to the first OSC1 was overkill, not a good design considering the limited room and resources.

WTF is Roland doing? Why clone a Model D when their own synth legacy is full of analog gear that people would pay high dollars to have recreated. My theory.................................. THIS IS THE FIRST OF A SERIES OF ICONIC SYNTHS TO BE CLONED BY "DESIGNERS" AND PRODUCED BY ROLAND. Obviously Roland wanted us to know they recreated a very specific synth. Sure they added some extras, which is awesome, but we all know what this is. The "shark tooth" wave-shape (which I've never seen on another synth), 3 stage ADS envelopes, the use of Model D terms like "emphasis" for Res and "contour" for Env mod. And finally a 24db transistor ladder filter. This isn't just going to be the weird oddball when the final history on Roland's "boutique" series is written. A big name company like Roland doesn't just decide to pay tribute to a specific legendary synth, and then talk about it like it's just a cool new synth at a great price. Doesn't it seem a bit weird that none of the people in these video's seem to make any reference to the Model D? It's not for legal reason's, there isn't anything illegal about being inspired by a specific design, or sound, long after the patent has expired.
