@OverviewBible
@OverviewBible 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Salvador! I think if a Christian is honest, there's _always_ an element that seems silly/insane. (And I say that after more than 20 years in the faith.) One of the reasons I started making this content was to try to make it easier for folks like you to get an idea of what the Bible says in a way that doesn't try to force you to accept of believe it. One of the biggest problems (I think) when it comes to Christianity and the modern world is that neither Christians or nonchristians are very familiar with the Bible-which leads to a lot of blind-men-and-elephant exchanges. I hope this channel helps!

@@salvab13 Wow. This is the first time I've heard anyone describe their first reading of the Bible as "whimsical"! =) I wrote an ebook (~300pp) to give new readers some of that read-along guided feel, if you're interested! You can check it out here-it's just $10: overviewbible.com/product/beginners-guide-bible/ I've received some kind feedback on it, some from people outside of Christianity. If you're looking for a resource that doesn't require you to know (or believe) the Bible, that's exactly what I wrote this for.

The bible had 73 books until the time of reformation/protestantism rebellion of 1517 led by Martin Luther which afterwards sadly led to the rejection of 7 books of the bible. It is fascinating that our protestant brethren gladly accept the whole new Testament without questioning it's authority yet the new Testament was canonized together with the 46 books of the Old Testament by the same council's of catholic bishops towards the end of the 4th century. For the New Testament, about 25% of the books were disputed such as Hebrews, revelation, Jude and a few others but what guided the bishops in deciding what was inspired was the Holy Spirit and the Sacred Living Tradition.
@thetruthshallprevailtoi
@thetruthshallprevailtoi 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly Ben. The Catholic canon was settled in 382 AD by the Council of Rome and was reaffirmed by the Councils of Carthage, Hippo, Florence and Trent, down the ages. That is over 1600 years of consistent teaching whereas the Protestant canon was a breakaway from this tradition. If the Protestants truly understood even their own abridged version of the Bible, they would realise that the Holy Mother Church is the Body of Christ founded by Himself on Peter, the Rock in 33 AD. Never stop praying for the conversion of our non- Catholic Christian brethren , although I know their twisted doctrines can sometimes put you off and depress you. But we know that the Catholic Church is the only place where you meet Jesus Christ as it is His own body. Those who are Protestants and are reading this comment, I strongly advise you to watch Dr Peter Kreeft's '7 reasons to become Catholic '. It's transforming. Please pray for me also, so that I too can one day become a Catholic as I am only 17 and wish to convert soon. God bless us all. AMEN!

so helpful for me to have an overview of bible ! I am seeking gods wisdom in the bible
@whiteprayer3
@whiteprayer3 5 жыл бұрын
My friend... if you seek Gods wisdom, then get your wisdom from God. i did not know the truth until I ASKED HIM to reveal HIS TRUTH to me! I had been searching for years and if someone had told me how SIMPLE it was to be shown the truth of His Word by SIMPLY asking HIM to open my understanding as I read HIS Word., I WOULD HAVE BEEN SAVED through HIS Word a LONG time ago! When we learn from ANY other source; as in MANS WORDS, either by hearing or seeing, we get just that; MANS WORDS. No scripture is of private interpretation... when we read the word HIS VOICE is heard THROUGH you alone ! This is HOW He speaks to us. It is the difference between learning by HIS Spirit, and learning through another mans wisdom: ie... the commandments of MEN. When Christ taught His disciples, He took them INTO A MOUNTAIN, away from all other distractions and influence! This is how we also need to learn. I was not shown the truth until I turned OFF MANS INFLUENCE, and HEARD and SEEN the Word of Life by becoming subject to HIS WORDS ONLY... it was only then that my eyes and ears were opened. Please see Matt 6:6 [this is HOW we are to seek the Lord and HIS Word! This his how HE SPEAKS to us. Anything else is MANS WISDOM and ANOTHERS words. For it is in VAIN they do worship Me, teaching for DOCTRINES the commandments of men. When we shut our ALL other voices and seek the Lord in SPIRIT and TRUTH, He will reveal Himself in our spirit THROUGH HIS WORD, which is the Holy Spirit. This is the ONLY way in which we truly receive HIS TRUTH. In the very beginning of this it speaks clearly of the intentions, AND IS BIASED. If you didnt see it, please listen to the beginnig and what he makes clear WHY this is being taught. When we walk in the sPIRIT AND NOT IN THE fLESH, hIS WORD is revealed to us THROUGH THE SPIRIT which guides us into all truth. The only doctrine I us is KJV without any commentary, or any of mans added words to influence me... a REFERENCE KJV TEXT w/only references to other scripture. The "new" bibles are all in violation of Rev 22:18,19! Please understand my friend, that God is not mocked and any so called "man of god" is not a man of God that ADDS his name and words to the scriptures, uses a text that has been changed, added to, or taken away from what God has written and teaches us through His Spirit... because the Spirit that reveals all things through the Word of God. The only way we come to the knowledge of the TRUTH is by the Holy Spirit which teaches us ALL THINGS. 1 John 2:27 KJV / 1 Cor 2:14/12:8 I hope this helps someone reading this ! My goal is not to speak against anyone but to edify in the knowledge of the truth according to the Spirit of Truth and not that which mans wisdom teaches [1 Cor 2:13 KJV ] Anything else will lead you astray... from such turn away! Please ASK THE LORD and dont rely on mans wisdom. Rev 3:14 ... Amen!

@@shawnwang4152 You are so very welcome my precious brother in the Lord! This person is teaching that Gods book is imperfect and telling people to do it ANOTHER WAY. All we need to do is to READ IT the way that GOD MADE IT. Please dont think you have to do charts and rearrange His book to understand it! This is so wrong to tell people this! His book was made this way for a reason and we are to read it as it is.Please remember that it is the Spirit that quickens [teaches] the flesh [mans wisdom] profiteth NOTHING. Heb 4:12 KJV Once you hear a teaching of man it will plant its seed and lead you astray. Seek ye FIRST the Kingdom of God and all these things will be added unto you.Matt 6:33 He will guide you into all truth. Christ said to NOT listen to anyone but Him and if we ask it in faith believing, it shall be given to us! All things that are asked in faith, believing, are given. Ask for HIS TRUTH, not for YOURSELF but to know what is right in the sight of God to know HIS righteousness! What really helps me is to go to youtube: type in KJV Alexander Scourby and listen to the books of Ephesians, Galations, Colossians, and 1st and 2nd Timothy! Just listen! It is amazing the things HE REVEALS to you through simply hearing it. For faith comes by HEARING and HEARING by the Word of God! Romans10:17 ask the Lord to please open your understanding of His word and help you understand giving you ears to hear and eyes to see through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Read and listen then to Romans! Rom 3:21 - 31 and ch 4 and 5 as well as the book of Col ch 1 and 2 explain the Gospel. Hope this helps. Also brother I must warn you against the Baptist and "free grace, once saved always saved, faith ALONE movements are NOT the Gospel and it has been changed by these people! They will attack anyone who does not agree and you will see their true colors come out. STAY AWAY FROM STEVEN ANDERSON and his people please! The Lord HATES PRIDE ARROGANCE AND REVILING and most of all those who are not MEEK AND HUMBLE and go about to seek their OWN righteousness ... they are bullies and dictators of the scriptures! Many sights will lead many astray and the only way to the Lord is by the Lord! There is a way that seems right to a man but the end thereof are the ways of death. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. The only way to do this is to put on the WHOLE armor of God, which is found in Eph 6: 5 - 20! There are seven... list each one and follow the references to each verse. Scripture interprets scripture and we need no words from man. No scripture is of private interpretation and this is where the devil gets in and leads you astray... by the wisdom of men! Seek FIRST the wisdom of God and He will reveal Himself to you. Luke 12:31 Each person has an opinion and man is all too willing to push their OWN interpretation on another. But the way the the Lord leads you is for YOU ONLY. When each of us read the scriptures, God speaks to each one of us on a personal level and no two people have the same walk with the Lord. THE ONLY ONE WHO KNOWS YOUR HEART IS THE LORD ... and for another man to dictate to you how you should be led by the Lord and follow His word is telling you to follow him and his understanding. Stay away from mans wisdom brother! Only the Lord can speak to YOU and teach you what you need to know and it is HIS SPIRIT that guides you. Each of us has a relationship with our Father and The Spirit of the Lord speaks to each of us through HIS WORD as we read them! 1John 2:27 speaks of this! Sorry for another looooong message! Its hard not to tell others and warn them of what I have learned! I hope this has helped ... Be blessed brother! Amen

@@whiteprayer3 I've found as a relative newcomer to Christianity that considering the interpretations and lessons of the Bible from scholars and those with insight has been nothing but helpful, I tried studying alone initially and found the bible unfathomable in terms of language, linear time and the nature of prophecy leave alone why, how and where it fits into the universal picture. For example I didn't know Rome sat on seven hills so unravelling what was being said would have taken me many theology, geography and history lessons. To consider someone's proposals and teaching is not to adopt that teaching unless it resonates with you. Totally understand where you're coming from in as much as most of the teachers and preachers on here impart their own interpretations but we only need be aware of that and form our own interpretations from a place of informed contemplation via intuition, our one on one relationship with God. Seems your views are borderline New Age surpassing the Bible Age where we relied on an intermediary such as a priest or minister to intercept on our behalf yet unlike the New Agers who tend to blend Eastern and Western teachings and are open in the true sense of the word, for example they may use yoga and meditation to intuit the true meaning of bible passages displaying a blending of disciplines. I believe it foolish to perceive we must only learn from God because we need a teacher to teach us how to get a connection in the first place hence your position may be teetering on thwarting your own efforts. One thing that stands out amongst Christians is their group paranoia that we shouldn't explore as it could pull us away from Jesus and out of all the religions I've touched on they are by far the most closed minded and unwelcoming as a group hence loosing potential converts. The Bible Age has almost played out we need remember the last 2000 yrs was intended to give us 1st hand understanding of the nature of manifestation and just look what we've created, hell on earth! When the nature of such is revealed the old heaven and earth will fall away.

Ol son, you do not know how important your work is. You bring a great perspective, of the whole bottle, in at itself, will bring a greater, knowledge and understanding, I like how you use the Bible, to explain the Bible, not someone's personal opinion, which can be good, as long as you stay within the guidelines, of the teachings, I've been dabbling in Book of Enoch, to see what relationship, it has to the mainstream Bible. And to conclude, whether it was written by deity, man, or something else, it is good to read the Bible all the way through, but it really helps, when you get a greater understanding, other different books, and the relationship, they have with each other, keep up the great work, your place in heaven, has already been reserved

The bible is a book mostly written by men who never even met the people they wrote about (many years after). It is also heavily edited and censored by a church that had a power and politics agenda, eliminating around 14 books (the Apocrypha). In addition, there isn't just one Christian bible - there are at least three with different numbers of chapters. There exists no provable, fact-based evidence to support any of the supernatural (spiritual) events in it. Thus, it is pure human belief - a human emotion and dependent on as many human thoughts as there are humans. To believe without factual evidence is like saying a court case should be determined by only hearsay or a feeling. It's hard to think God wouldn't hold humans to a standard that they hold themselves.

Your presentations are clear, they capture the major messages, and your white boards are great presentation aids - question, is it possible to have a screen shot of these "white board" visualizations - why I would like to use them in my bible study. I'm 72 years old living in a retirement community and many of my men would benefit from these learning aids. Question #2 - is there a listing of your presentations with the corresponding KZbin link. Thanks again, you are blessed.

The books of the New Testament can also be split into the four categories of the Old. First, the gospels setting the historical and theological foundation of new Israel (i.e., Christians), this time now not through the Old Covenant of the spoken word of God at Mt Sinai, but through the New Covenant of the living word of God, who brings out the spirit of the foundational law at yet another mount - the mount of beatitudes. Then follows the historical book of Acts which chronicles (pun intended!) the relationship between the church and God and its impact on their successes or failures as they interact with the non-believing people groups around and amongst them. Then follows the writings (which is more or less the word used for the Jewish section of the poetic books), only that these time they are not poetry and song, but epistles. Then finally a prophetic book, the Revelation which foretells the history of the church and the culmination of its story as it goes into yet another Babylon, this time, a spiritual Babylon, but later comes out (Revelation 18:1-4), before God comes and visit His judgment on this global Babylon, which includes the devil and his minions. The similarity between the Old Testament prophets and the New Testament prophets is in the historical scope - the history of Israel as it interacts with Babylon as exiles and then as freed men going to the promised land. The difference is that in Revelation, these entities - Israel, Babylon, captivity and promised land - are spiritual and global.

very well covered except one most important fact, who wrote these books and when???
@ajronmejden
@ajronmejden 4 жыл бұрын
People. We don't actually know who they were. They wrote them a couple thousand years ago. We don't know when exactly. What we do know about the books is that to the extent that they're true, they're trivial, and that the supernatural claims they make are either false or there's no good reason to believe them as true.
@corbantaylor7636
@corbantaylor7636 3 жыл бұрын
@@ajronmejden Well there are a few reasons why we can believe them as true. I'll take a "non biblical" approach. First of all, we have over 5000 manuscripts for just the New testament. Thats more than any other ancient work....ever. The Number of years between the original and the earliest known copy is only about 30 years. For comparison sake the time for Homer's Iliad was 500 years. Early followers of Christ suffered brutal deaths for the testimony they gave. The proclamation that Jesus Rose on the 3rd day, the fact that they suffered so greatly for what they had claimed to see convinces me as much as the Manuscript evidence does. Thats just for the New testament. Now I can go even deeper into the old but I will reference some things for you to check out pertaining to the Old testament. The Dead Sea Scrolls, Hezekiah's Tunnel (a very interesting one), and the Tel Dan Stele. God bless.

If you want to know more about the time between the Old Testament and the New Testament, you can read the Apocrypha. There are several books that the ancient catholic church decided not to include in the Bible for some reason, which cover the time leading up to Christ's birth.

Catholics & protestant agree on the new testament canon. Protestants have limited the old testament to 39 books for 5 reasons. ONE: The jewish Tanakh has the same number ofbooks though the arrangement & order are different TWO. All 39 books are in hebrew, the other 6 books in the catholic canon are in greek used by helenic jews. THREE. The jewish council of trent removed the appocryphal books. The protestant canon was compiled after this event. FOUR. These appocryphal books somehow didn't fit in to theology and contradicted many bible doctrines. FIVE. Verses from these books are not quoted by Jesus or his apostles anywhere in the new testament.
