Overwatch 2 Competitive Modifier Inconsistency

So how's your guys' day going, I made a follow-up video based on some of the comments mentioned in the last video & some of the matches I have been playing. I hope the positive modifier works for everyone but I have to get 7 wins in a row for the modifier to actually apply. BUT, once you get two losses in a row loss streak will apply for me, it is tough out here they want me to stay in Diamond or take 1000+ hours to climb out of Diamonds. I hope they fix the inconsistency or at least address the issue. Let me know in the comments how the season is going so far & if you have run into the same issues I have gone through. Proportionally, losing costs more that how winning gives. Also, with this new patch the Match making is the worse it has ever been. I'm low gold and matches are either unwinnable or unloseable. Out of 10 games I have 1 game that's actually fought.

Yea due to rank reset most people did not get ranked right so you were possibly going up against top 500s while ranking, they definitely reset mmr too since both of those are linked together. The system is really messed up right now with people either getting the modifiers or not at all.

So, I've been comparing this game with other games competitive. The truth is, game devs want to control your rank as much as possible in order to get you to play more. They use peoples frustration and then give them a little tiny hope. It's more obvious in other games where the rank of the other players is in your face and not hidden behind an approximation or a private profile. I really believe this is why they didn't wanted to be more transparent about it until one year later (and not even now, because they made such a confusing system on purpose so people don't quite understand they're being tricked). The only way to truly rank up in an acc that's already placed is by winning and absurd amount of games IN A ROW or having a new acc and also winning a lot of games in a row but a more reasonable amount. Is just a dirty tactic in hopes to keep you glued to the screen because you know your rank is higher than what it is atm. They're basically gaslighting people.

Overwatch definetley gives unwinable games but not to be rude OW has to be one of the better games in this regard and climbing feels a lot better as in if u deserve to climb you will. I don't mean that in a rude way at all just letting you know from someone whos dones the gold to gm climb in OW.

@derktheturk5223 Nah climbing is a real pain, I was GM in overwatch 1, got placed in plat for all roles at the beginning, climbed back to masters 2, & once more got brought down again. The modifiers are not working for me so it is even more annoying that I have go on a 7 win streak before the game decides to give me win streak, but it's only 1 point at the beginning. It would make sense after getting 2 wins in a row BUT AFTER 7!?!?

@@KPR56 depends what season you were Gm in OW1 but it’s a different game then OW2 at the end of the day but with the win streak stuff I just view it as an rng event at the end of every game lol

I grinded for a couple hours and went on something like an 8 game win streak. I went from Plat 3 to Plat 1. Then lost my next game in plat 1 and dropped all the way down to the 99th percentile of plat 3. Legit slightly more than 1 entire rank in 1 loss. I dont even understand how or why that happened.

Did you ever see that one masters player who lost 130% in one game?

@yououttapocket I havnt. But that sounds horrible! I think I lost probably about 105-110 that game. And I didn't even do poorly. I was Brig and healed 14k in 12 minutes with only 6-8 deaths in a loss.

the rank system is actually ass tho. cus how come i lose 38% on a loss, and get 18% on a win streak. literally how is it fair, that i need 3 wins to make up for one loss? makes it even more ass, that i actually get more leavers than wins too, so im just constantly losing points, combined with not getting any modifiers at all, despite being mid silver in a fucking plat lobby, cus somehow the system thinks thats a good place for me to be.

Yup it's what I've been saying but some people are disagreeing with me & saying that the matchmaking system will not be perfect which I get that but why is it sometimes 2 whole ranks apart & not just a few divisions. I have been getting matches with one division apart but I somehow still get expected but in the matches with 2 whole ranks apart it's a normal win.

I got 16% on a 3 winstreak and when I lost I would lose like 25%

I really don’t understand how the matchmaker determines if I’m supposed to win a match or not. My team will get absolutely rolled, but the game will give me a reversal like I was supposed to win that game. I also swear the game will give you absolute bots on your team multiple games in a row to try and put you on a losing streak on purpose. I’m a low Diamond dps, and I dropped back down to plat 1 because the game decided to give me absolutely braindead supports for 4 games in a row. What are the odds of that? You can’t tell me that’s a coincidence.

Yea it's dumb cuz it doesnt tell you the ranks of anyone so you dont know whether the system is being fair or not. Even then expected, reversal, & uphill battle are dumb modifiers since the positive modifiers barely give you any score to your rank. The negative ones can really screw you over especially if they stack.

Hopefully get a unrank to GM play through so a steamer can summarize the experience and how long it takes for them to get to GM, im interest in how long it would take a Smurf to come up

Some big streamers have gotten masters when they were previously GM or top 500 so there should be content from them showing it.

For me it's been keeping it pretty balanced, or in rare occasions I get the miraculous event that I lose let's say 19% on the progress bar and win 25% on my next game. However, I have a friend who managed to lose up to 50% when he got a SINGLE loss (he even got a screenshot of it). I got placed in a lower rank since the old comp system, where I should have been low plat/high gold as tank but got placed instead to high bronze/low silver because of unfortunate events like my teammates leave and stays at 1 or 2v5, or I get matched with new players who are playing comp for the first time (and it shows without even asking them). In my opinion, I think another thing that's screwing up the competitive system is the matchmaking system by trying to "balance it out" and putting people of much higher ranks in low ranked games. I could be wrong though.

For me it's only giving me around 18-21 score per win but will brutally punish me at times by giving me 25-30 sr loss. Recently it's been more tamed but it's still annoying that I have to win 7 in a row to actually get the win streak modifier. The game needs to take in your stats more into account & see how you contributed to the team, because sometimes it truly isnt your fault for losing but will still be punished.

i lost 3 games the other day and won 1 and it put be from gold 1 to plat 5 yes they were calabration matches but the game clearly had a rank it wanted to put me in so i dont see why i needed the calabration since then im working off 2 wins = 1 loss which is frustrating becasue with a 66% win rate im remaining at my rank even though i should climb a bit higher with a 66% win rate im not saying i should go from plat 5 to diamond or something but theoretically i should be at plat 4 with a 50% winrate not

Yup I feel that, recently there was an instance where I got both volatile & loss streak but the modifier never popped up in the any of the previous matches. I lost around 38 SR from that one & clipped it. The rank system is really dog water right now but no big content creator wants to call it out, how is it fair that I go against people 2 ranks below me & not get the expected modifier. But when I go against people within division of me, I get the expected modifier, one division apart is not a huge difference in skill gap.

its not even consistent if you get expected or uphill battle. in a low plat - diamond game where my duo was diamond - highest rank in the game - he got uphill battle for winning while i was the lowest ranked in the lobby and got expected for the same exact match

Yup & the other problem is that we dont know all the details of how the modifiers work & who they will activate for.

I think you misunderstand what some of these conditions mean, just being 1/2 divisions apart in terms of match rank doesnt mean you will get "reversals" or "uphill battles". These are based on the SR difference between each team. If team 1 has 5 players that are masters 5 (its based on mmr but lets do it on rank) and team 2 has 5 players that are masters 4 then team 2 should have a decently higher chance of winning. If you repeat that scenario 100 times you could assume team 2 wins 55-60 times maybe. Therefore if team 1 wins they deserve more SR because they proved they played better than the matchmaker expected them to. The same scenario could occur with a larger division. You could have a diamond 1 player and a gold 1 player on your team, but if the enemy team also has a d1 and g1 player then the mmrs will balance out and neither team will get an expected loss/win.

And if youre actually better than you rank you WILL climb, the game knows what your internal mmr is and will push you towards it. If the game thinks youre a masters player and youre currently in diamond you will gain more SR for a win and lose less SR for a loss. If youre having the inverse then the game probably thinks youre a plat player.

Yea this would be a good explanation for it but why don't I get uphill battle or expected when I'm going against people 2 ranks lower than me. I've gotten a lot of matches against golds, now its against plats, I'm Diamond 3 as tank rn. The time I get expected a lot are in single division difference, those are not big differences regardless of how many diamond 2 or 3s are on my team.

Yea it depends whether you were defending or attacking, I'm pretty sure the people defending first in all replays are shown as blue.

for me i went on a winstreak on my 6th win and got 1% more for each win after 5 in a row.. so might be different between people

Yea it definitely is different for everyone, my friend gets one after 2 wins but sometimes won't get another one after winning again.

I guess I just feel like I cant complete the progression bar. I'm stuck on a constant win then loss, win then loss situation. Or for every two wins I lose, so I end up losing my progression. Maybe I'm meant to stay in mid silver....

bro iam on a fresh acc with 20 wins and 5 losses, 80% wr with a 10 or more winstreak and 2 times i got a 2% calibration on a win + iam gold 2 on it + iam queuing with my friend who is almost masters HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHAHHAHAAHAAH, being masters 2-3 is already TOP 500 ON EU HAHAHHAHAHAHAHJHAHAHHAHAHASHDSAHDHASDXAXAAXAXAXXA
