When Ashe finally took high ground and moved back to the edge, I think she was giving Mercy a lift up. Cannot say how annoying it is to play Mercy, want to get to an allied sniper, but they won't move to the edge of high ground to let you up.
@garvi425 жыл бұрын
Sty I'm gonna help you out here and explain a couple phenomenon for you (even though you probably already realize this). First, lower level players are more comfortable on the ground because on high ground, you have to aim left, right, up, and down. If you're on the ground, you only have to move left and right. You don't even have to move the mouse, you can just strafe, and it's easier to hit targets if your aim is less than stellar. It's not ideal, but I guarantee you that's why people end up on the ground. The same principle applies to players being sucked towards fights. Most people I think are using too high of a sensitivity and when they're farther from a fight, the heads are smaller, harder to hit. Being closer with bigger targets triggers something in your mind, tells you you can make those shots where in the back you just click, click, click and you hit nothing. Even though these things get them killed, this is why they're jumping off high ground and being sucked into close quarters fighting. The solution is to play reaper (jk, but not really).
@_korbo_5 жыл бұрын
I think that's not it for the high ground, there's also the fact that usually you're alone on the high ground, so when the enemy teams spots you, you feel more vulnerable, because there are no shields or allies to bodyblock for you, you're in the open, so when you start getting focused you kinda want to go back with your team because it feels safer.

also on high ground you are not in low level supports eyes so you feel like you must go back to ground to get heal.
@Real_MisterSir5 жыл бұрын
nacotee is on point with that comment, most people who gravitate off the high ground in lower elos do it because they feel disconnected from the team /aka subconsciously feeling less vulnerable in the pack. Then there's also the subconscious way of correlating being a part of the fight with actually physically being in the fight. Most lower elo players don't see the apparent value they get from being outside of the main fight. Since it feels to them like they should be "in the fight" with the rest of their team, they fail to realize that their value is provided most effectively when they stick to their high ground or flank angle. They don't see the value of creating crossfire and expanding the enemy's attack angle because it's not obvious if you don't think about it. In the end, many lower elo players just end up acting without really thinking why they do what they do. If the fight is happening somewhere, they just gravitate towards it similar to how tunnel vision works. It's like "im up here but the fight is down there, I should get closer to the fight and be more productive, help contest the objective, etc". It's similar to the habit of looking into the ground because you look where you're gonna move towards, instead of looking forward and preparing for potentially having to engage someone. It's just a force of habit that automatically happens when the tunnel vision kicks in.

This isn't really a "defense" because I know it's a problem I and other players need to work on, but as some insight to why the player kept jumping down; I genuinely have a harder time hitting my shots at an angle than I do on the ground. There is that huge temptation of "ugh I'm not hitting anything, I need to jump down." And it's something that I think players like myself need to work on.

I don’t know if Sty mentioned it already, but another big tip for making your shots is to just slow down a little. Not every shot has to be immediately fired! Breathe and make sure you’re aiming correctly before firing. You’ll get faster over time, but before going for speed, make sure you’re hitting the target Edit: I think patience is also why Osarys keeps giving up the high ground. I’m sure he sees enemies and thinks “I can get a better shot on this one enemy by dropping down”, but by chasing that one kill you give up a few others

Something that I have experienced in lower ranks is a fearlessness of players pursuing sniper characters, Ashe included. In higher levels of play if an enemy Junkrat runs away from his team to pursue you as a sniper he will get killed by you and/or your team. In lower ranks strategy goes out the window and teams often leave lone enemy players to freely engage your backline. I state this because it ends up creating bad habits and makes for some strange player behavior, like jumping down into the fray to simply try and get to safety or get the attention of your healer.

Funny thing at 4:15, You tell people not to look at the floor, while every military on the planet teaches you to do so for trigger discipline. It´s -really- hard to unlearn, and if you grew up in the western world you most likely got passively trained to do it. It´s different, when you play for example Lasertag or Paintball, where you always try to aim a little high and settle, because of the strong falloff, but even then you go for center mass, not headshots. It´s a unique condition for FPS games, that you aim shoulder high/head high, and that´s why it´s so unnatural for people to do.

As a person who has spent most of their Overwatch career in bronze/silver: Bronze/Silvers first priority is always to babysit the payload. They likely jumped down at 20:20 because they felt the need to contest. Not thinking that killing the Rein would stop that; But they needed to be there to do it physically. Bronze and Silvers will prioritize the payload even after a team kill. You will get flamed for suggesting either A. that a portion, if not 4 or 5 of the team move forward to fight further up to get more uncontested push on the cart (Think after point A on Kings Row) or B. giving up some ground (on defense) to give your team positional advantage. I think this is the main reason why bronze/silver dont maintain high ground. Next to not knowing what high ground does for your positional advantage. They must be on cart. 5 on cart for faster push. etc.

non-ADS firing is actually quite useful is more circumstances than you give it credit for, because it has a higher DPS than ADS firing. It's really good for bursting down big hitbox targets, like tanks or even barriers. The only downside is it uses up a LOT more ammo, so generally, you would only hipfire when you know you can disengage and pop a reload behind cover.
@xenocheeze66335 жыл бұрын
As for why our Ashe player is coach-gunning backwards, it might be just a knowledge thing, because intuitively you think it's how it works, as in, it doesn't have forward momentum. I remember everyone did it when Ashe first came out, before we all realised we can just run and aim straight down and it conserves forward momentum. OP, if you're reading, this is for you. Use it.
