PerciusLive I actually do that myself but I try and surprise myself. So I basically jump around and get into my scope and shoot the first small object I see in the spawn room and repeat the process. This helps me keep switching targets quickly whenever I land a shot in the game, which is crucial when playing widow. "One after another."

idk if you're a good widow its kind of easy to out damage other dps IF you're good yanno? Like crit shots do like 300 damage and body shots do 120, thats still a lot of damage especially if you can consistently hit your shots. Than you can ensure that you're putting a lot of pressure on their team by dealing the damage. But i have to agree that his team was absolute garbage.

@@harleen50 Junkrat can output more damage in the same time it takes to fully charge a critical scoped shot, as can reaper, soldier, McCree, Torb, Roadhog, Hammond, Ashe, Hanzo... So no it's not easy, and widow should almost never have gold damage even over tanks. It takes 1 full second to charge up a 300 damage headshot (which on a squishy will only do 200) plus it is the highest skillshot to land in game, and if you sit there spamming shots every 1 second, you're not only extremely vulnerable because you can't move, but your position will be in constant revelation to the enemy which is the exact opposite of how to play widowmaker.

There was nothing wrong with this player's widow play, but the smart thing would have been to realize that the team wasn't doing jackshit and probably switch to a hero that could have been more useful to the existing team comp and had a presence on the objective. If he was using chat, he could have instructed his team and given better focus intel. But since he wasn't in chat, he had only two options - Play hard but silently watch the team fail or switch to a fresh secondary hero for better chances at a comeback. Since his shots weren't landing by mid-3rd round, I think he should have swallowed his pride and switched. Toxicity sucks, but if you bottle up and don't play as a team, you will lose.

You nailed the exact reason I'm not in any form of team chat, coms were doing more bad that good on that account since I'm only playing Widow this season on it. Also I know Ruins is one of the best Widow maps, it's honestly one of my weakest though, I definitely prefer the other two for widow on Ilios.

Widow now days, started off as a genji main though in season 1, 2 was roadhog/Zen/zarya/McCree, 3 was soldier and tracer. Also probably have about 50-60 Mei hours if you add it all up.

when a sniper has gold elims and damage, the problem is not Widow imo. This is kind of the thing with Overwatch. You get flamed for pretty much everything, most of the time the people flaming you are the ones that are playing poorly. Like in this case, wtf is the DPS player and Hog doing to allow a Widow to get gold elims and damage? A whole lot of nothing I would imagine. Not to mention the one guy switched off Soldier for Junkrat. They basically had no DPS for a lot of that series. The last game was a bit slow for him, I personally would've switched there, but in no way did he play poorly.

There are a lot of widows who I would call very good stuck in gold or plat or even lower. There are silver widows in duel servers who can outsnipe me even though I would consider myself at least a grandmaster level countersniper, as I've put a serious amount of work into learning the maps and how to peek on them. I don't see widows ever outsnipe me in comp unless they have the support of their team and I do not. Yet, there are these silver widows that stick to the custom games because they get flamed in games. I put thought into it and could pin it down to a few reasons. - Inability to switch. Check their hours, they play some widow but then also mostly... rein, or mercy, or something. Something that doesn't take advantage of their superior aim but lack of game sense. Aim alone can often carry you into plat where your game sense will be somewhat tested, and diamond where your game sense is absolutely tested. Some players can play widow in all situations. Sometimes you can just test your counter to see if they are actually effective, and if they're not, they're wasting time throwing themselves against a superior player when they could be trying to simply make you ineffective and play the objective. I see lots of genjis and winstons suicide themselves into me when simply playing the objective might make the rest of my possibly poor team crumple and require me to clutch, a situation I never want to be in. When they're bad, even if I have three people on me that means my team is fighting a 5v3 and I'm fighting a 1v3, which I may even be able to win or at least delay until I can bring them to my team for a further 6v3 after the previous fight is won. - No team comms. Sometimes you need to mute your team because they're not listening and don't care and are only being toxic. Otherwise, Widow requires both recon and can do recon herself. She is a great shotcaller because of her backline, high ground positioning and can see movement others wouldn't be able to. She can keep an eye on every player and flanks and coordinate things... if your team will listen. Calling out targets and picks and letting your team know when you've killed supports and it's time to push. If your team doesn't trust you, however, it's no use even trying to bother with it, as they won't do anything you say. I recall a gold/silver game I smurfed in to see what gold was like our mercy commented "why haven't I ever seen their dps? I only see rein ever defending the point". That was because I was killing them over and over. I wasn't using voice comms because I was just playing shooting gallery and not really doing teamplay. Seriously no one notices shit widows do because of how her friendly design is- her tracer rounds are a thin white line no one can see, her shots barely make any noise, bodies limply fall to the ground, and the killfeed goes away too fast. If you're not calling them out, only the most astute will notice. A friend I queue with always calls out my good picks, and on places like King's Row I can get a support pick in seconds which lets my team push, but only if they know to. - Lack of higher ranked game knowledge. Dodging, capabilities of other players, when their counters actually become effective and not luck-based. I never worried about winston until they started to do things right, and now they are complete pains in the ass. Dodging techniques designed to throw off flicking and make tracking impossible at range. You don't learn these until easily high diamond at minimum. I've seen genjis kill me before I could even think of escaping. Meanwhile, in plat, genjis take their sweet time and allow you to smg them down. These other dodging techniques also require you to change how you aim, which will automatically make your play feel worse. Which comes into, what you stated a few times but didn't get into as much as you should have, my most important point... - EFFECTIVE PICKS, NOT TRASH PICKS. KOTH is a huge offender of this and so is 2cp. If your whole team is dead, there is no use in even trying to get kills, as any damage you inflict without a death is feeding. One of my best games as widow was an anubis match where I completely floored the other team while I was attacking, but never at a time when it would have been useful and let my team cap the point. I got a legendary card for that, but it was still a defeat, despite how much work I had put in. If you aren't ready to pick every single hero a second time as they run back out of spawn, you're not really doing much. Every kill made without progress or a point cap is a trash pick, as it's basically useless. There are a few times when you want to look for as many picks as possible- Right before a team fight. Whether you or they are initiating, this requires game sense to know when you need to be looking for the correct shots. A kill on Ana just before they initiate a team fight might delay them 30 or 40 seconds while they regroup, and if you keep staggering them they will be required to fall back further and regroup together while attempting to counter you. In comp, time is everything, and delaying a team fight might let your team build up more ult charge and run down the clock. During a team fight you should be looking for high priority targets like supports and anything that would hinder you in cleanup, such as your counters, enemies clearly intending to ult, etc. Much like McCree, Widow's ult is fairly useless during a team fight save the somba or mercy you really want to find. In a team fight you know where everyone is, so infrasight is meaningless except to line up shots from cover. Popping that ult right before the fight or right after will let you know exactly what their plan is or to stagger any stragglers. Use it to outsnipe another widow you don't feel confident dry peeking, as you should never underestimate your opponent- they might get lucky, but they won't get lucky if you are on an even field and know you're better. It's great if you can hit every headshot you go for, but if you are only hitting them after your team has already lost the fight, you're not being effective. In a dream scenario you stagger the other team so heavily that it's a complete roll and the match is over as quickly as possible. High elims and damage, especially damage, are bad for widow as it means you were struggling to secure a win condition. Gold elims and zero other medals is also a dream result. Making these effective picks is the hallmark of a good widow, along with one other important element; psychological warfare. If you've ever fought a good widow you know how terrifying it can be when someone dies from peeking just a little bit, or tanks get shredded when they try to do anything. Using that fear to your advantage will let you push things you probably couldn't in any other situation, but that psychological effect is in serious jeopardy when you are being countersniped or are losing to your counters. If you know a widow is bad, you're not afraid to make plays and watch them whiff all day. If they're good, even tac visor can be risky. Deadeye is even more suicidal than it already is. On the other side, being able to countersnipe these terrifying widows has let me take teams to victory where they would have otherwise just accepted the loss. Making them fight duels and distracting them also wastes time, but only if you are able to win those duels, as losing them only wastes yours. Bringing mortality to those aimbot gods is a massive morale boost to your team, and nothing is more discouraging than seeing your star widow player get domed, followed by more teammates. Judging your opponent's skill and adapting to it is what makes a really good widow, as everyone reacts differently to you and in more or less effective ways. Some widows prefer a more direct approach. Others like to flank. Some stick with their team. Some do a mix. Some are very predictable and some are not. Some are better at sniping than they are at dueling. Some are the opposite. I unfortunately consider myself better at couintersniping than actually sniping in general, and struggle with what are seemingly simple things at times, yet can dry peek and win duels against what SR would say is a far superior player. Checking profiles helps here too, since you can see if they could be considered a well informed widow or just a player trying her out- I can't help but see a challenge when someone picks her, and it's always a bit discouraging when they turned out to be a support main just trying to learn and I shut them down so hard someone else has to take over. While a win, it feels a bit mean in qp. In comp there is no honor and no remorse, only w or l. Sorry this explanation is a bit long but I've thought about it for a long time and wondered why these widows with such good aim and sniping sense could get stuck so low when I even widowed in some of my placement matches and would easily place in diamond every season, only held back by life circumstances and injuries. I worry about those widows on duel servers as I have no idea what to expect from them, but I don't worry about them in real matches at all since they have no idea what to do or how to fight me in any way other than 1v1 out on the open. I will flank them or outplay them over and over until they give up. Perhaps it's a bit of an obsession but I find the entire counterplay game of widow v widow to be insanely interesting and indepth at master+. Learning how to play at that level has been a serious ride and I would hope to maybe someday coalesce it all together into a short guide I will never let anyone read.

I once tried playing Widowmaker. I killed the enemy Ana (solo healer) and Torb right at the start, but then my team never broke through the enemy Rein's shield. I kept their backline dead for most of the game, but the rest of the team just couldn't get through the front line. I should've swapped to Bastion or something. In the end, I rushed in to trigger overtime (my team should've rushed in because the enemy had no heals half the time) and I managed to do it, but I died instantly after. I had gold elims, gold damage, gold objective kills (enemy Ana was standing on it), and sadly gold objective time. Got the card for gold medals, but I was still blamed for our loss. I told them to just rush in and forget about the Rein (sometimes the only one at the choke), but they wouldn't listen.

that is the most depressing part, when they see rein showing his shield and your allies are afraid that they see rein as nokia as indestructible wall. smh, sometimes you need to swap heroes and let them show how it is done, like try swapping for the 1st minute like d.va and dive into the capture point and voice comp, after you die, you can go back to your dps hero.

I main Rein and whenever I pin the other teams main tank my team doesn't do shit and it annoys me so much. Once I earthshattered 5 people, with me was a Soldier and a Hanzo (because fuck healers we need hanzo) and they didn't shoot at the 5 heroes on the ground and they just stood about. I killed 2 of them with firestrike but I died because when the earthshatter affects had worn off Mei and Dva combined there ults and killed us all. Then at the end of the game I got blamed by everyone for being "too aggressive" because I actually charged into the enemy team. Shit like this happens so often and its so frustrating.

There is never a guarantee that any ultimate will even kill 1 person. (However it is very likely that they will kill at least 1. But it is possible to get no kills) While Widow's guarantees that your WHOLE team can see all the other team. Which even if your team doesn't get kills from it (which is also very unlikely) it is still very useful.

I'm not a master player or a pro but I think I've played the game enough to summarise few main points to win and climb. 1. Mechanics 2. Teamwork voice/no voice 3. Map Knowledge 4. Predictions (gained from experience and knowledge) 5. Confidence (for team and self) 6. Focusing objectives ( points, heroes, allies) Aim to win in all aspects basically. 7. Don't tilt and learn from mistakes 8. Play different heroes and roles so that you have a bigger pool and you can understand and predict how your enemies will act since you've played enough of the heroes they picked. Many things still come into play that I have not mentioned. But from my understanding this is sufficient enough to be improved and able you climb to masters at least. Also I aim this mainly for solo queuers. Teaming/stacking can also work but once you reach that level and go solo, you can fall fast. Please add more things that you know that us players can improve on and like this comment so that people can see it. Have a good day beautiful reader.

Team comms was the reason why they lost. With that, she could've said " zen down" or " genji down." Otherwise, just some minor accuracy problems, and she could actually do really good. The team blames it on widow when in reality, it could have actually been the teams fault. That was like the bronze game plays, and how they are not bronze level players, rather low plat players, this widow is like a diamond level player.

I think the target priority is the problem, Sty. This Widow seems to focus the tanks instead of the heroes they can 1 shot kill. Change target priority to kill the heroes that take 1 good head shot to kill, then turn and help focus the tanks. Why can't all the Widowmaker's I get matched with be like this? It's not even like s/he's got good aim but bad game-sense (like the Hanzo/McCree/Soldier). This Widow swaps positions, has a get-out planned, is able to deal with flankers, and even gets on the objective when overtime is triggered. This poor player is like the Mercy OverAnalysed - stuck in ELO hell. If the team took advantage of Widow's picks and initiated then s/he would be much higher.

That's exactly me, I'm stuck in Elo hell and can't win anything without a good team. I tried to main other characters in comp, easier ones than Widow but it's... It's just the exact same effect. Whatever classes or characters I play, it's always like the ennemy team is GM and my team is lower than bronze. And I try to communicate with my team and to make up strategies and all but no one joins voice chat and when I got the chance to finally have someone in voice, he's always toxic. That's why I need friends that can play Overwatch but sadly, they all play Fortnite. Only one can play with me.

That's because the widow played very well but should've swapped when accuracy dropped mid-3rd round. There wasn't much to critique. This player is just stuck in a web (see what I did there) of toxic teammates. My suggestion is to just play widow on the maps that you know you will dominate on and try a support class on riskier widow maps just to climb through the ranks. You're not going to be able to play as widow (EVEN IF YOU ARE A GOD) on every map, especially if you are pooled with lower level players.

As an actual widow main some of the things stymies was saying we're not actually true for example you only need about half charge to kill a soldier with a headshot and the top of the lighthouse isn't the only spot on the left bulging you can actually grapple right on the top of it which is much better for getting surprise shots because not a lot of people use it I could go on but I won't

"58% scoped accuracy" I mean, you kept shooting the tanks. I'm surprised your accuracy wasn't higher. You really struggled to get the other targets as the game went on, which really lowered your value in the team. But you didn't do bad! Just target prioritisation and tunnel vision seem to be the big issues here (combat tunnel vision by scoping out more often. It helps more than you think). But overall, not bad!

Parker Zepeda A good tip for getting out of gold (I was stuck in 2100 for nearly two months) is to find a group of 3-4 reliable people to play with. That way, you know that you'll always have at least a few decent people on your team who are willing to play support or tank when you need it. Also, I have a rule, and a lot of players have a similar one, where if I lose two games in a row, I stop playing for the day. It helps to prevent those massive loss streaks.

Parker Zepeda I started this season in silver, solo queued to gold and then got stuck. Truth is, you need comms in gold to get out. Play some games with a larger group and you'll win more. I main support so I know your struggle but as I'm now I'm diamond, take it from me that you need to group to get out of gold. Duo queue is better for plat and above but a 5 or 6 stack is great in gold.

Losing streaks just kinda happen, don't think too much about it and hop back into comp again, if you belong close to or in Diamond you should either get a winning streak eventually that gets you back up there or you'll slowly climb back up. Especially since off days happen, could have just been one of those, or just super unlucky that day.

One other thing you could point out about Widowmaker's mobility: She can get to some really interesting and high-up places which can synergize quite well with Mercy. A well-positioned Widow is almost as valuable to Mercy as a Pharah can be.

I play a good amount of widowmaker (over 50 hours) I know I'm not the best or anything but I've learned a lot just from experience. If the enemy team has a genji always put your venom mine where you're standing, if the enemy team doesn't really have much to dive you with then shooting the mine to where the enemies are can weaken a target for an easy body shot kill. Communication is pretty important as widowmaker because she's such a powerful character and can take someone down to half health with one body shot so it's really good to make call outs to your team "tracer is half", "mercy is one hit" this way if a target escapes your teammates know to go after that hero if they see them soon after your call out, easy clean up. Target priority is also a huge thing with widow, shooting into a rein shield is not something you want to do because if he drops his shield for a second well you've just lost your charge to be able to shoot at anyone his shield was protecting. Widowmaker's big role is getting the right picks like healers or someone who you can tell is the one giving your team the most trouble. When dealing with a D.va diving you widowmaker can actually take her out pretty easily, when she flies to you hook away from her since D.va can't do much damage at range she won't be able to really attack you again until her boost is back up but some easy head shots into her mech will take her mech out quickly before she can boost to you again after that it just comes down to if you have the aim to take out little D.va.

Right. after watching the gameplay a few times. I can say that his aim on widow is great, but that's it. the reason they got steamrolled hard is simply because he's not getting the right kills at the right time. Most of the time the team fight is 5 v 6 and only after his team dies, he gets his picks. There's no point in getting picks after the fight now is there. You want your picks before the fight so you have the advantage going in. But this widow doesnt get the picks fast enough for the advantage. Most of the time the picks come when his team is 3 v 6, aka when the team should back off. TLDR. good aim, bad timing for kills.

The problem with these "coaching videos" is the fact that people are sending in their best games. How many games did the widow play to get this ? 20 - 30 ???. Saying things like you have have really good aim is meaningless when you know they have cherry picked their best game. Lets see all 10 placement matches then you will know. After talking in the comments section a bit, and listening to what other people have said I've come to a conclusion. This person has submitted a video to see how they could improve as widowmaker, but aside from aiming in a few places, and some minor positioning issues they were great. The player has already achieved a high level with widow, and I think what most other people are saying is now would be a great time for them to pick up one or two other heroes to round themselves out as a player. And if they've done that, maybe now it's time to play as widow on their main account to get more comfortable at a higher rank.

I play widow a lot and I find that hitting jump shots is extremely effective, especially when the enemy team has a rein. Getting consistent with jump shots let's you take supports out behind barriers and is something I would recommend practicing in quick play
