I was so into OW1 and then the content drought happened and I knew even before they released OW2 that it was going to be a shitshow. And yet people told us we were just needlessly complaining, that "the game is free now, so therefore it's better", etc. They took out so many features of OW1 that didn't need to go away, they made the balance of the game even worse, they switched to 5v5 just to lower queue times even though it's resulted in downgraded, hurried matches that don't feel nearly as satisfying. And that's not even getting started on the predatory battlepass and them locking heroes behind it, which they initially said would never happen. I and others saw this coming years in advance, and now that everything's crumbling there are people who are genuinely surprised. Blizzard has mismanaged every single one of their IPs, and Overwatch had the potential for way more longevity; now? It's not dead, but it's going to get there within a year or two. Thanks for bringing this up so people can see how scummy Blizzard is.

What sucks is that, from an interview with someone who works on the new OW2 Blizz team (When they finally had mfs that wanted to work on the game without getting slammed with lawsuits.) The team working on the code, designs, gamemodes, pve, skill trees, etc all put their hearts into it but the execs saw that this was taking too long, they weren't given proper resources, and they weren't making money. So the execs decided to wipe it and work on pvp. The team was bashed with schedules that destroyed their original strategies, forcing them to work in conditions that were nowhere near as good as what they had, and the resources they were given would not be close to what the community deserved in their eyes. Still, the team decided to work hard until the inevitable hammer that was the higher ups telling them to stop struck them down. It really does suck that a team that loved to work for the community was stopped by Blizzard's greed and it's why I despise the top of Blizzard but love the working teams still trying their hardest to keep the game somewhat alive. Here's hoping the Microsoft swapover saves them, but even that seems slim unfortunately.

Still remember me and my roommate were way into OW, I mained mercy and he flexed, OWL was in playoffs and we'd spend our nights building SR in ranked, observing the meta, practicing; we were invested, watched our favorite teams, observed plays that seemed applicable to us. Man it’s very sad to hear all of this. Overwatch is one of my favorite games of all time and I still play it occasionally too. I’ve been playing it since December 2016 and it’s the first game I played while it was at its peak popularity. Loved playing it and I still do like playing it today. I just wish they didn’t do the whole battle pass system and honestly they should’ve just kept overwatch one up instead of changing to overwatch 2. I still have hope that one day they’ll get their shit together to make a game that everyone can enjoy like they used to.

Considering that OW2 is coming to steam, I'd be willing to bet that more than just the OWL is dying. For me, the game died shortly after the release of OW2. I paid for overwatch with the promise of getting every future hero for free, which they went back on. They also removed a third of the stages. We were scammed out of more than just the PVE content. But OWL died early on for me, when there were changes made so that there was no longer a home team to root for because literally every team was Korea.

As somebody who played overwatch 1 when it released until around season 12, i can confidently say the downfall started with the release of brigitte. Her release was absolutely the worst meta in overwatch history where if you were below mid masters and you didnt have her on your team you were at a severe disadvantage if the other team did. Playing during her release meta was like playing garen in league of legends, except without having to know any macro or wave management, and she was actually strong. Sure she wasnt that great in pro, but it doesnt matter if she ruins the game for 95% of players. It showed blizzards incompetence in understanding how their game was played at every level. After that they added shield heros and just bored too many players and pushed them away from the game. Sadly once people learned how to play against the shield meta and have it be actually fun it was too late. Also they stopped releasing new content (mainly maps) and had a shitty skin system. I wish companies would just copy csgos model at this point like god damn. When most of your skins are "legendary" skins theres a problem...

As someone who has stuck with overwatch since 2017 theough thick and thin, i still have some fun playing this game but the amount of hatred i have for blizzard and the devs is immeasurable. Obviously if you've played overwatch for a long time you know that blizzard can't balance their game. They released brig which broke the entire game which created goats (imo the most fun meta) but resulted into them creating role lock and after that got rid of an entire hero slot making it 5v5. Blizzard has never seemed to care about this game, I still wish they would go back to 6v6, I've always had more fun in 6v6 than 5v5. They added push where the majority of players hate. I still have some optimism of flashpoint but it doesn't look good for the future.

When they added the experimental mode a few years back before OW2, they tested the 5v5 format there and the general consensus was that it was terrible. Ironically, the experimental mode seemed to almost show the exact problem with blizzard. They give the players some place to give input, and then ignore it and go through with they're initial plan anyway. It's comical. I'm just glad I left OW before I got even more disappointed by the more recent stuff. I still sometimes long for the earlier game though, that will always hold a place in my heart

This makes me even more sad now that I know gundam evolution is getting shut down, its such a sad ending to a game with so much potential, and a game that was so clearly superior to its predecessor in terms of its developers, but the only downside, was that bandai never gave the game a chance, the poor devs probably weren't given the time or money to properly give the game enough, but they tried their best, and the small group they could capture, realized the game to be something truly special, but they weren't able to fix the blaring issues fast enough, we only JUST got the ability to play a private custom match, and its truly just something I can't believe, even though the signs were there, and the fact that overwatch survived this long past it, is just disgusting to me, and I truly hope the people who created, and the people who loved gundam evolution, myself included, can only learn to grief and recover from this lost of a gem, I hope you make a video on gundam evolution's final hurrah, before it goes out with a bang in october.

Y'know, I find it kinda funny. When Overwatch came out 7ish years ago, everyone was screaming how it was gonna be the "Team Fortress 2 Killer" but.. TF2 recently hit it's all-time player peak while this game is still declining, especially with it's "cancellation" of the promised PvE mode, instead giving a watered down version of the halloween content from OW1. With the ESports scene for the game dying too, I don't think the game is gonna retain much of a player-base outside those who have spent thousands in the game already and are stuck with buyer's remorse or sunk-cost fallacy. Blizzard has gotten so desperate they're even releasing it on Steam, the ONLY game of theirs available NOT exclusively on their own launcher, which is just another layer on top of this steaming pile.

It's so hard to be a fan of this franchise rn, seeing it so mismanaged and mangled into what it is now is really depressing. But with the league dying and a bit (more like a ton) of hopium, new grassroots tournaments could spring up and overall revitalise the eSports scene. As for the game itself, it's really up to blizzard how hard they want to tank their biggest possible cashcow, or put meaningful effort into making good quality of life changes and deliver on promised content. I want to see this game succeed but it is and always had been in Blizzard's court
