Wouldn't surprise me, everyone says "Find what you love, then make a job out of it." But from what I've seen from friends and family and in myself, every time you try to do that it's a lot easier to learn to hate your passion than is to learn to love your work. Then there's a certain emptiness you find when your "escape" is taken away from you. I wouldn't be surprised if he just got bored of being a gamer, of being a professional at it, if something that started as a hobby that he was good at that he could do after a day at McDonalds to becoming a stress-fest of practice practice practice, travel here, stream at this time, practice again, sleep, take your xanax so you can play better, inhale your caffine so you can get your hours up. Can't imagine it's actually much fun to take a "game" and make it into a sport. This little stunt he pulled could've been an "out" for him. Instead of saying "I quit" and being slapped with contracts and pressure, he makes himself unwanted and gets his freedom back.

I don't wanna claim to know what his issue is but if I were to hazard a guess, I think that he enjoys the game and playing it and sharing the experience but joining a team competitively meant the game went from being something fun he liked to do into a chore and responsibility he had to fulfill. And it got to the point it was just frustrating and he had enough and it simply just wasn't fun anymore. So rather than simply quit (if he even can) he was seeking a way to get kicked out. that way he can play because he wants to and not because he has to.

Sounds like after reaching the top the game has become boring for him and now he hates it and wants to ruin everyone else's experience because the magic is gone for him. I'm very interested in psychology and have been looking into the phenomenon of online toxicity quite a lot recently and here's the theory I've come up with: First of all, toxicity isn't based on any objective factors. However, objective factors can lead to or increase the potency of the actually influencing subjective factors. What I mean by that is that being toxic is equal to being pessimistic. Everything seems shitty to such a person even though it actually isn't. Here's how pessimism affects the gaming experience: Pessimist gamers have a tendency to be toxic because they already start the game with a non-positive mindset - they're either in a neutral or already negative state and since they are pessimisitic any negative experience has a bigger impact than a positive one and so the ratio of good and bad experiences will always drift towards negativity even though objectively it should be positively favored. An example I can give for this are people who flame their team even though they are winning. The objective outcome doesn't matter since the toxicity comes from the individual's bad mindset. I want to bring this even further and say that that's the reason why Dafram is such an asshole. Being a dick online is another phenomenon I have thought about. The short answer is pseudo-anonymity - Because of lack of information people you "meet" online aren't really "people". Feeling sympathy or any positive affection for someone you can't even see is difficult because of lack of unconscious emotional queues which are necessary to develope trust which is the foundation for positive emotions. Agressive emotions however don't need that, they are more primitive because they act as a defense mechanism. That's the reason why a big portion of people you meet online, especially in a competitive team vs team game type, act so rude. Unconsciously they don't see each other as people and have a tendency to be agressive to such entities. That's pretty much what Hitler did with the people regarding Jews, that's what any dictator does - manipulating his people to hate the scapegoat entity who are no longer humans to their eyes. The last point I wanna talk about is Dafran's lack of appreciation for the opportunity he has been given. This can be led back to another characteristic of pessimism - low self-worth and living standard. Because everything is naturally negative to pessimists they also see themselves to be of low worth. That's why they are "content", at least as content as a pessimist can be, with a poor living standard and a shitty job and don't show any appreciation for opportunities to improve their life style, either because they think it won't last anyway or because, unconsciously, they are afraid of the resposibility and don't want to leave their familiar but shitty life which doesn't bother them too much since to pessimists everything is shitty. If it is true that there is something in Defran's life, then I am sorry to hear that. However Blizzard was right to temporarily ban him for not single-handedly trolling but for encouraging trolling from others. There needs to punishments for players who don't take competitive mode somewhat seriously (even the number one player). You shouldn't be banned for leaving one game, but if you are purposely trying to make things hard for your teammates and opponents, then competitive is not the game mode for you.

Blizzard has his email, personal details, payment information, and a bunch of other extra information they wouldn't have for normal players to make sure the ban is enforced. (And tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if they included unique cryptographic keys for each copy of the game people buy, so he shouldn't be able to log-in with another account if he got one.) Enforcing this ban in particular should be easy-peasy. Especially since it seems that his team is just as disappointed with him and will probably inform Blizzard if he does try to circumvent it somehow.

The sad thing about me a overwatch player is the fact I am a good sportsman ship player and good in genearal and even get some messages and people going on about whatever i did was pretty cool no sarcasm at all. But if I try competitive I can feel my heart beat and is doused in fear of getting told im horrible and in anyway I try to fix the problem getting all these awful sayings while competitive is just well...the same as quickplay...But has some little bit more of meaning (in my opinion) .....it gets so bad at times that I would even mute myself the voice chat and not dare look at my messages.... yes im a shame to admit but I even cried for being bad....I would be a character that was helpful if i knew how to play them and knew what to do......I love giving good feed but im just to afraid....also i have no friends to play competitive with so it makes it quite worse...

Heh, same problem here. I love the game, I like how it plays, I really enjoy playing it because I've found heroes that suit my playstyle really well, etc etc. But I just can't get myself to "gitgud" playing alone and just always play with my friends since I'm afraid of doing bad and getting those "mean" messages. And even then I can't play frequently since it's rare for 6 of my friends who knew each other are online :(

Nah, it's not even that. I play good, my winrate's at a pretty good condition (55%) on 29xx SR. It's just, when I make 1 mistake, and someone blamed me for it, I get 100x worse. And just reading that on chat makes me feel real bad and turn off the game after that match. Yes I'm a whiny crybaby lol

Today I experienced top tier toxicity for the first time. I had always heard about toxicity from youtubers and reddit and stuff but never gave it much thought. I figured people were just overreacting and needed to suck it up. however, today I was playing comp (2650 sr) and was doing capture point on illios. I was playing genji and this other guy was doomfist(we'll call him edgelord steve), we are playing this match and I'm doing semi bad (first match of the day,no warm up) but tried to stay positive. We lose the point 99 to 100 and morale was down. next round is about to begin and edge lord steve switches to pharra and asked me to switch to a healer (He said he would but that he was carrying the team with gold eliminations). I replied that I would switch but that I had gold elims and gold damage (Because he was being annoying and yelling at everyone the last round). I switch to mercy and try to heal everyone that I can, edgelord steve tells me to stick on his ass and heal him. I tell him that our other healer is a lucio and while he was good he can't heal anyone. He gets real pissed at that and says I'm a shit healer. We do win this round and as we do so he says "You can't rezz for shit mercy) I don't know where that came from because I rezzed 3 people that round (Not great but I am an offence oriented person who prefers lucio for healing) Next round I'm still mercy because I know he will get triggered if I switched. We had 99% and they had possession and 85%, only four of them were alive and I was going in with two people about to rezz two more. I thought we could win the point but for some reason the two stop following me (without me realizing) and I rezz the 2 and we all die. we regroup for one last effort but the enemy's all had their ults and wrecked us. edgelord steve says it was my fault for wasting rezz even though I was the first targeted in the end when the enemies used their ults so I wouldn't be able to rezz anyway. For the last round I switch to Zen and stop talking because I'm sick of his shit, and we lose the round/game. The end screen comes up and edgelord steve says that he carried the team because he had 38 kills (because he was dps for 4 99%-99% rounds). When he says this two people who hadn't talked all game get on the mic and say how he's a toxic asshole, that made me feel a little better but I still hated that game and even considered leaving early to get out. Sorry for bitching and moaning to you guys but I had to get it off my chest

No, because Blizz tracks your ip adress and you can buy an acc but the ban affects it too. The only thing he could do is get a new PC but i doubt he'll do it just for a season of OW

Trolling in any ranked games should be punished .How ever so called toxicity dosent matter much if you can simply mute player . Trolling during game impacts more game itself than words , just mute the guy and get it over with it .Im sure that TROLLING are much bigger problem than any toxic player .If someone trolls in Ranked game he should drop his MMR much harder than if he just lost ( i belive this is best punishment for those players ).Banning acounts wont do any impact on those asholes , and if thay dont care about Rank games than thay should drop MMR . For casual games tho it dosent matter at all who trolls or not .

I have a bad and often toxic attitude. I'm self aware of this fact, but my problem is that my aggression is against players who troll/AFK/intentionally lose. I'm so obnoxious and loud though that often the focus of peoples attention is turned on me instead. I've had suspensions from MOBA's before, but never an FPS. I don't want to try-hard every single game, and I'm friendly to every person I meet, and can joke and riff with complete strangers quite easily, but I just want everybody to enjoy it, not just me, and I instantly rage when people want to ruin a game for everybody else in the room. Even winning is meaningless if they other team had their game ruined by their own team mate.
