one more quick tips. when Pleone drops their leafs, their roots stays active for 1-2 weeks after that. so if keept slightly moist medium that time the pseudo bulbs will fattening up little bit more and be very plump

If you want to keep the bulbs dry, and at the same time treat for the spider mites, you could try dusting the bulbs with some sulfur powder before storing them, and just rinse the sulfur powder off before you replant them in the spring.

Hey Dani- I feel your pain :P It can be so disheartening and frustrating not being able to get rid of those mites! But keep the chin up, your collection is beautiful, consider it that you're attaining tons of experience and wisdom ;)

Quick tips. do not put bulbs in plastic bag, they need to breath and will rot in that bag. store them in a paper bag or just as they are in the fridge. I do not cut of the dead roots, keeps 2-3 cm, they helps to hold bulbs I. place in medium next time you plant them.

I actually always put them in plastic bags too, precisely to prevent them from dessicating (fridges have that effect). As long as they are dry and cleaned up when storing in the fridge, it doesnt have adverse effect.. I would however not advise that method were the pseudobulbs kept in media or in a place subjected to temperature variations.

Greeting from Hong Kong, Miss Orchid Girl! What an interesting video. What kind of fridge temperature are we talking about here? 4'C?

+Gardening at Douentza I am.. think I will eventually give up, gear up, find a field or something and go crazy with a miticide :(

or you can try introducing predatory mites for those (neoselius californicus is quite efficient, unfortunately I discovered I was allergic to those)

From time to time I see from the balcony window that you have some phals and other orchids in the apartment. Maybe you could some time in the future do apartment tour, in witch you show all other orchid you got in the apartment itself, not just in teh balcony? (If you don't want to, I fully understand it)

+Vytautas Poška I don;t have plants in the house, just 2 Phals that are badly infested with mites and I cannot get rid of them, they burry themselves in the leaves, I will just throw away those ones :)

Hello Danni, I lived in Singapore, hot, wet and humid all year round. Will Pleione be suitable for this climate and temperature ? Bcos we didnt have winter , so must we still over winter them ? If yes, when shoud i start to overwinter them ? as soon as all roots and leaves dried up ? Thanks

Hi, overwintering can be done in the refrigerator without problems. More problematic would be the high temperatures though, mine didn't do so well in my climate :(

I hate spider mites! I hope the mites will die in the fridge. About the plastic bag, if there is any condensation inside it the bulbs could rot. It might be a good idea to put a paper towel or a piece of cardboard in the bag with the bulbs, and check it periodically, and change it if it becomes moist. A paper bag would be safer than a plastic one. Since there's often moisture in the fridge, the paper bag too might have to be changed at some point.

+Orchids & a Dutchy I just read they can hibernate for a year .. I am doomed.. might just find a way to use a miticide and be done with it. I cannot take this anymore.. it's weird, some orchids are completely rid of them, some are not! They make little colonies in the leaves of Phals and you can't get rid of them and they always reinfect the others :( You have a good point with the paper towel in the bag, I'll keep an eye on them :) I don;t want to use paper bags cos my fridge has a fan than ventilates it and spreads bacteria lol.. I don't need that in my food :P

Pleione orchids are very sensitive, they are not suited for climates like yours. They really hate heat, just like Miltoniopsis orchids.
