Sometimes it's the very people you share your blood with are the source of your pain. The very people who know how much you are trying but still break you down. The very people you explain your pain to that that bring you more harm. I've learnt that "to be happy, is to be selfish". It doesn't matter who u are. If u bring me turmoil, u are out.

Hey Ninja, I watched the whole video of the toxic mother. Its quiet sad that the mom still doesn't see anything wrong that she has done. What she said is really true, we need to choose ourselves from toxic mothers.

Many people are like for a young girl the most important relationship is with her father. OH NO! The MOST important relationship is with your mother because you end up taking her parenting style and parenting your kids. You end up being the same. BUT IF YOU MAKE AN EFFORT NOT TO PASS DOWN THE ABUSE TO YOUR KIDS THEN THIS DOESN’T APPLY TO YOU.

My mother is very toxic, most of my insecurities as a woman came from the way she treated me. Now she's not working and everyday I mean everyday she asks me for money. She always complain when I spent my money on my self, she makes me feel bad for using my own money the way I want. She's always comparing me with other girls who are married and she says why you are not like them. Having a toxic mother is a open door for problems in your life. But I've decided that I'm not going to listen to her and understand that we are different persons, I don't have to be or do what she wants. I don't owe her nothing!!! She brought me to this world and everything she did for me was her obligation as a mother. I am nobody's slave.

This asking for money issue seems to be a big thing with black mothers. The entitlement. Most of them want to use their daughters as soon as she turns 18. I have noticed it’s usually the ones who were never there for their daughters or did bare minimu parenting with everything(barely supporting ) that demand so much and ask for money like you asked to be born. Black women also need to stop birthing kids they can’t afford and getting with men who abandon them to raise kids.

I used to judge children who disown or distance themselves from their parents, until I experienced toxicity from my mum, I have changed. Being black and having been groomed in a certain way (respecting parents, elders & all that). It seems as if our modern parents are different from our great & grandparents, they love material things and esp money and are not grateful. Many of my friends & relatives whom i spoke to about my mum's ingratitude & toxic attitude thought I was being "disrespectful" when i shared my experiences. I stopped sharing & suffered in silence. I developed high blood pressure. There came a time when I cut her off for 6 months & saved myself from depression. My mum is 89 now, has advanced dementia & I live with her..she cannot hurt me anymore becz she does not remember 5 mins from the next. I am now her "parent" and am learning to handle our relationship in new ways. Talking to someone who understands and is non-judgemental helps, for me it was Malume & my Aunt (his wife)- eish have recently lost them both😢 Coincidentally, I too am a Social Worker & not young. The passage of time seems to "even" relationships out. My advice to all those suffering the parental/family abuse...walk away without conflict and earn your peace .

This is exactly how i feel..I feel so relieved as well knowing I am not the only one that feels toxic mothers exist. My mother's love literally has to be bought. My boyfriend is in a favor only when he buys her stuff.. The times when he buys me things, she sort of acts jealous and expects the same from him. She makes me feel so guilty everytime when I enjoy myself. She demand things from us as her children and he favourite line is: " I brought you in this world before anything else I must be first and you must first support me for a few years before starting a life of your own". I feel so bad because this is my mother it wasnt meant to be this way.

When the person that gave birth to you cannot even show you love how are you going to require love from another human being. My friends relationship with her mom mirrors her relationship with her bf. They use her then they need her & discard her when they don't. Having toxic people in you life will make you sick. Put up boundaries & when they refuse to respect them cut them off. You deserve a peaceful happy life & should not allow anything to take it from you.

How to heal and get over the fact your parent is toxic. 1. Forget about ever building a relationship with them....cancel it from your mind because it will never happen. 2. Stop seeking validation from them. 3. Do what you have to do for them...don't ignore them if they are sick take them to hospital and pay their bills if you have to you are not doing this to be called a good son or daughter by them you are doing this for your own peace of mind and so that you won't have any regret or guilt in the future. 4. Move out....this is for your own mental health.... Africans are always covering up for mothers and ignoring toxic things they do....mental health is not recognized fully in the African culture in fact its not even a thing what you will hear is your parents are always right even tho they abuse you and cause you to have low self esteem....please to be happy we must put ourselves first and do what is best for us...let us take care of our mental health and get help if you need to

There are women who would give their life just to have a child. So these toxic mothers out here must be reminded of the fact. A child is a blessing not a financial breakthrough . She could have easily been barren. If you have a toxic mother remind her of this. Also it's a parents *responsibility* to raise the child that they chose to have so that child owes you respect and not money

Owanie recognises the difference between sympathy and empathy. Sympathy, you feel for someone but can't do anything for him/her. Empathy, you feel for someone and able to assist them either emotional, spiritual or perhaps financial through their journey to see the person come out as the best version of himself/herself.

@@ntokotom147 no. He's got 2 siblings but they have different fathers. He's the eldest. She does that even to the sister who is in the middle. The last born is her favourite, she lives with him and manipulates him to a point were he has two kids with a woman he hasn't married and they all live with mum but he wont look for a job. So now we literally looking after all of them.

One day can we have a chat about having kids before we are able to take care of them after being advised so many times not to by our mothers and once we have them we automatically believe we have a right to demand that our mothers put their lives on hold and take care of our children. She says, "I LOVE you!" forcefully, with a look of expectation in her eye as though that means that I owe her something. She should go ahead and say what she really means, "I love you, conditionally." Some (maybe most) toxic mothers expect validation from their children, and when they don't get it, they turn into a martyr.

Yaz WORS FOR WORD my mother is like this. It’s hard to cut her off cause she purposefully does not want me to get my passport, I’d or birth certificate. I can work and she wants me to be dependent on her. When I finally started working, I felt like I had to buy her love. I would pay her rent and stunting my own financial growth but the minute I didn’t work, she would take her love back. She would pocket watch. We would make the same amount but like clock work she would ask for money that I didn’t have. Don’t get me started on manipulating, turning my sister against me or getting jealous when I have healthier relationships with other women

My mother is exactly like that , she always yell at me and tell me that I'm useless just like my father . The father that never raised me , he was absent. She goes all out to destroy me emotionally and claims that she's my mother and she only have love for me. I only see hatred from her , she hates the man who fathered me and she vents all that anger towards me. She's very toxic.
