OWCD - Behind The Scenes Animation 1

This is the behind the scenes for the fan-animation for the song Ocean Wide Canyon Deep by Jacob Collier.
This video is a bit different: today I'm taking you along while I animate about one and a half second of Jacob's singing.

This is so so cool, thank you so much for sharing your process with us. I knew that animation is very laborious but actually seeing you do the process in real time really puts it into perspective. I, and I'm sure everyone else watching this too, feel just extremely lucky that we're able to see such a beautiful piece of art come to life, and I just wanted to thank you for all the work you're putting into this - it feels almost selfish to say it! It goes without saying, but don't worry at all about how long it might take to complete. I'm just happy to be able to experience this, and seeing the occasional notification on my dash makes my day! Can't wait to see Jacob's reaction when (if?) you finally show it to him!! Edit: Just wanted to add that I think you absolutely nailed his facial expressions! He's got quite a characteristic demeanor which I think definitely came across in the animation. I also loved seeing the system you've got for animating the face, like how you don't really need a "section" for each and every consonant because the vowels are sufficiently readable, like you say. I'd love to see more videos about the behind the scenes process in the future!

Waaaoh! Thank you so much for that comment. I always wonder if it's worth spending that time doing behind the scene stuffs instead of marching on to complete the animation. You have single-handedly answered that question ^^ For Jacob's facial expressions, I started building the models based on some of the very characteristic way he has to frown or do his "ooo". I reconstructed a lot of those expressions after about a year because it just didn't feel like him. Now that I'm nearing completion of the animation, I feel like I'm only starting to find how to specifically animate him. I'm really happy you noticed that ^-^ I'm really glad you're enjoying all of this and I will definitely make an other or two of the animation process in the coming months I'll try to document the finishing of it all (and I have a few of the standard format BTS in mind remaining to make, but that will probably be after the animation itself is completed). Thank you for your support, it is truly appreciated!
