That father is the prime example of the mentally "I feed u, I cleaned u, I gave u a house, now work for free for the rest of my life cause u owe me for birthing u and giving u the bare minimum I am required to do as a parent". It's really disgusting how some people have kids thinking that and in some cases use those things to manipulate the kid from a young age, make it feel guilty about living.

My parents were like that too. Use the kids as free labor. We worked for the family business, under the table at first. We DID get paid but it was a small amount, and as a kid you don't know any better. You're getting extra spending money and you're happy. When we were old enough we had to be registered as proper employees so we could pay taxes. We got a small increase, not even by the hour because they were too lazy to calculate that out. It was just $200 every week. I never got a raise, and my abusive alcoholic father fired me. I was their slave for years and that's how they treated me.

@MsScarletwings
@MsScarletwings 4 жыл бұрын
Keira The Husky He’s not really allowing them any resources towards other options. They’re nearly adults and he’s still pressuring, probably guilt tripping and fighting with all of them to keep them leashed into the business with this ‘helping out the family’ schtick. If they’re working 12 hours a day for zero pay to keep this restaurant open, which he heavily pressures them to do if not orders them, that leaves them no time or money left for anything else. There will be no second job, let alone a college education at that rate. He comes very close to just outright stating that he doesn’t want his kids to be doing anything other than working for the restaurant. What is their other option? Having their father, who they’ve been raised to be totally dependent on, toss them into the streets? Also, he literally has an employer and employee relationship with them, and he is not compensating them for *a lot* hours of work they’re putting in for him. You, as a boss, are legally required to pay your employees, and to pay them a minimum wage. This is serious, not to be downplayed, and illegal. This man is a shit boss, and on top of that he is a shit father, who honestly deserves to go out of business for thinking any of this mess was a great idea.

I was four, when I was forced to start washing dishes in the evening. My sister was 3 and she dried the dishes. I was 7, when I started having to get up at 5:30am each week morning to make coffee for the parentals, and this went on for 10 years. School was not until 9am, so I always went to school tired. I was 10 when I started having to accompany my father to his work (he was a contractor who laid drains in new houses), during school holidays, and work a full day with NO pay. Yeah, the thing about that is that some people have kids because of the expectations to have kids that were imposed so strongly at the time, to not establish a nuclear style family by the age of 40 was taboo, and so there were a number of parents (mine included) that simply made it happen because that was the norm. And then as a result, the kids were often used more as an unpaid labor force. Can't tell you how often I've been unpaid for the stupid amounts of work I did for my age(unless you count some measly meal).

Not sure about sociopathic ones, but experts in criminology and psychology have estimated that there is a higher incidence of psychopathy in corporate settings/senior business roles compared to the general population. (I think 3% versus the 1% incidence of general public and 15% incidence of prisoners).They are drawn to positions of power and their psychopathic tendencies help them step over everyone else/charm their way to powerful positions. Makes sense to me. To get into such positions, you’d have to have some level of disregard for others and also be able to manipulate people via charm/glib.

Boy this was my middle school through post highschool. I got a sickness out of the whole ordeal, almost killed my parent and thought about killing myself way too often. I'd sleep all day waking up to work and then stay awake a bit right after it ended, repeat the next day. I was hoping I would eventually wake up and it would be over, since I was promised I'd be paid, that it'd get better. But no. I allowed my name to be indebted to "Help" the family and all I got Is intense stress, manipulation and anger. I did get out of that hell, but I learned nothing I didn't already know. Some people don't deserve to be part of your life, don't sacrifice your well being for dubious gains no matter how much you hope the circumstances will sort themselves out. And most importantly family is not special. They're capable of anything just like anyone else, with the difference that others don't pretend they're doing it for you.

I'm almost CERTAIN that was an editing trick. Coupled with scripted stand-alone shots of Ramsay saying, ok one at a time, please.... blah blah blah and then cut in a way that seems like it was the same conversation. Like, they're adults, I'm sure they wouldn't do that cartoony shit, no matter how hilarious it would be. My personal theory is that it's a hold over from the pre-industrial era. People had lots of kids so they could work the farm and towards the families prosperity. Here's the thing though, back then lives were on the line and everyone shared the rewards of their work:food, shelter, and protection. There's no excuse for this mentality and practice today.

So at the risk of ruining this reply section with the actual answer, Yes, it is illegal. But you gotta remember, it's still their dad. They clearly care about him otherwise they wouldn't keep working without pay and, presuming this scene was actually organic and not staged, they wouldn't have made the effort to ambush Gordon. No one wants to see their dad go to jail or go bankrupt paying for legal fees and any cash settlement if they love him. More than losing the restaurant, more than losing your home because you can no longer pay the mortgage, more than all of that combined... you lose your dad.
