This is why digital products and other live service games flat out tell you in the EULA that you're not paying for "ownership" of the service/game etc. Rather what you're actually paying for is a "license" to play or use that digital media. It's pretty gross I hate knowing that my permission for doing anything can be revoked. As a developer I understand the few cases where it makes sense but it overall leaves me with a bad vibe. But its normal now what are you going to do.

Have you tried looking up pdf version of the book you r reading online? But yeah, I only buy physical copies of things like books, movies, and music. I download the CDs and they are all on my comp. Unfortunately it's this way with music, film, games, and everything you can't own physically and independently of the internet. If it connects to the internet, you don't own it. That's why I don't use Steam anymore. It's in their EULA - you are renting it. I've been lamenting this to my friends but they call me paranoid and reactionary because they're normies. Rain where do you publish your writing if at all? Writers can often be involved in contractual issues with publishers especially wrt digital royalties in 3rd party apps. They have no choice but to pull their work offline & off the apps because the publishers aren't paying them and they are literally starving. Some writers make their work open source in protest, others struggle on. If you mention the name of the author you previously bought the work of, it'd be easier to find out what the issue is
