@@ZurielRenteria The N54 is actually a stronger engine than the N55 and less likely to "blow" anything. People get 700hp out of these without touching the internals. The many common failures this engine is infamous for have to do with wear and tear parts and electronic actuators.
@Zygersaf3 жыл бұрын
So I actually have one of these, 2009 with N54 and dct. I found one that had its turbos replaced under warranty and have had it for 2.5 years so far. To anyone that is thinking of buying one: having to rev this engine to get the power is only a characteristic of it being remapped. Stock the thing is so linear, and with the dct it is just relentless, you plant your foot and it doesn't let up until the needle hits the end of the speedo. Reliability is an issue. The engine itself, is great, but everything that bolts to the engine is shit. Turbos, injectors, ignition coils, spark plugs, water pump, all the oil gaskets. All the above will fail at some point. Having said that. If you are prepared for it, and are into modding cars, this over and m3 anyday. Because the Americans are all over these cars, aftermarket support is insane!

I completely agree with everything you've written here, EXCEPT my 09' E92 is manual. I have NO use for DCT. Six speed manual or bust... Other than that, you are spot on. I would NEVER buy an M3 over a built 335i. Mine has 740whp, and I'm happy to roll on an M3 any time they like. Also, for the record, as you eluded to, if you replace all the OEM plastic parts around the engine with better third party parts, then this is one of the MOST reliable engines you can own. I've had mine for years, and it's never let me down. Other than normal maintenance, the only thing I ever had to replace was the AC Compressor because of a bad pulley.
@Sacrifice-Paid3 жыл бұрын
So, Harry, upon what uv said about this car I’ve come to a conclusion, that either your particular 1 was just an unfortunate example, or they really do have reliability issues, cos I own an E46 330 m sport manual, and whilst some have said bad things about my car, for me I’ve had it 5 years, and other than the past 18 months where all I’ve done is replace worm out parts, which is simply seen as general maintenance, my car is 100% reliable, therefore I ask myself the question, do I bother with the 335, or do I just put a supercharger onto my E46 knowing how reliable my own car is, cos what uv said has made me think twice about the 335 🤷🏻, it sounds like it’s a liability to have 1
@AquaStevae3 жыл бұрын
One more thing, I"ve owned six bimmer's including an E46 and E36 among others. I've also owned Porsche's, Alpha's and other TSI cars. But here's the thing, I've NEVER had a car that makes me feel like my 335i does. I am so in love with this car because it checks every single box I could list. It has an answer for every complaint people have had for sports cars in general though out the decades. And though I've had it for years, I'm thrilled every single time I get into it. No other car has ever done that for me. Lastly, this is the only car I have ever owned where I don't feel envious towards those other guys with a newer one, or with any other sports cars, when I go to a meet. I can go to a bimmer meet, or a Cars and Coffee and feel like my car is the best looking, most fun, fastest and the savviest technological vehicle there. Period! I've never had a car where I felt this way before. The 335i is the whole package, and I'd take it over my E46 or any other every day of the week, and twice on Sunday. I hope this helps FnF76...

2010 isn't pre lci Ive had e92 and e90, e92 was manual e90 is auto. Id really love to dct swap but i really love my e90 the extra room is great my dog and friends can easily sit in the rear. Over the years ive done nearly every suspension mod, ST coilovers, m3 parts + adjustable control arms, and a few other parts. the way it drives and handles is an absolute dream. For such a pedestrian looking car its practically on rails. As far as engine mods its FBO making 395whp. A well balanced car with roughly 450 hp is such a blast and properly pulls on even some newer cars. Mustangs and challengers often have a hard time keeping up... Id love a single turbo for the exhaust note but upgraded turbos is in the near future so i can have a little more fun with these newer faster cars and probably meth for summer. 😁 The only thing that really bums me about purchasing a 335i over the e92 m3 is the wider fenders, my car looks great all blacked out and perfect stance but i really wish i had those wider fenders and 1" wider wheels and tires that comes with.. One benefit of the e90 over e92 when modded correctly, tasteful trunk diffuser etc the e90 has a much more aggressive rear end than the slumpy looking e92 💪

I have a manual one of these. I got it for 7k about 3 years ago with 120k on the clock. It's now got about 155. I've changed the water pump and a couple suspension top mounts and that's it, can't fault it. I got a remap and it was a none issue. It runs 340 bhp so only about 35 bhp uplift, but what you didn't mention is that it took torque from 400nm to 500nm, almost what a brand new 65k+ 340i has. 0-60 went from 5.5 to about 4.2. They are a lot of car for the money, and I refuse to sell it even though I hardly drive it. It comes with just about one of the best OEM sound systems I've heard and there's little missing that modern cars offer in real terms. Mine does have the rattle but you only hear it on start up, and it's genuinely impressive mines still on 15 year old original none replaced turbos, and is going strong.

The 335d is the better all round car. I've owned both and much prefer the D. Torque wins the day.
@grovsey36563 жыл бұрын
No it's not. It's a dirty diesel. Good taxi. The torque argument is also dumb. It's a n54, not a n/a Honda.

People who say comments like that clearly haven’t driven both cars and taken an impartial view on it. I never had a 335d but owned an e90 330d before moving to an e93 n54 and then an e93 n55 as my current daily. I was lucky in that I changed jobs which meant fuel consumption became a non-issue, hence the change from 330d to 335i. What I can tell you is the difference in drive - the smoothness, the linear power delivery, the length of that peak torque curve, THE SOUND - is like night and day. The diesel won out on MPG but in every other respect the i is the one to go for.

In the US. The rest of the world did indeed get a few pre-LCI N54 DCT's.

I like them but if you buy a good one you could spend a bit more and get a m3
@AquaStevae3 жыл бұрын
M3 can't be built as strong as a 335i can. And the M3 guzzles gas way worse than the 335. The ONLY thing the M3 has over the 335i is the suspension. And guess what, I put an M3 suspension all around my 335i. So save the money, and put it into mods for the 335i. You'll have a better looking car, that runs a hell of a lot better.

@@Saif0412 ....FACTS! My xhp stage 3 tuned ZF 6spd auto will also shift much more quickly then the best manual driver. Manuals will see my taillights all day everyday....they'll be having fun rowing gears as I'm way ahead having fun setting up for the next corner! Lol
