Do you have any money saving tips when it comes to hamsters? I hope this video was able to give others some ideas. It really is sad when I hear someone say they can’t afford to do something that their pet requires. There are many ways to give them what they provide and if even the cheapest options aren’t an option for you I honestly would say to not get one until you do have the funds for one as it’s not fair at all to the animal.

@Ashley-yj3tu5 жыл бұрын
Price match!!! I know for sure PetSmart and Petco do this, and almost always the price of the item I’m buying is cheaper online. All you have to do is pull up the item on their website (make sure it’s the exact product and size) and show the cashier and they will mark the price down to whatever it is online. This has helped me save so so so much money, I hope it can help someone else 😊🐹

I find that using water bowls over bottles is cheaper! It’s a lot easier to find a suitable bowl rather than fixing a glass bottle to the cage.

Yes, it's very sad how hamsters are kept as classroom pets because they're almost always kept in tiny cages, without a good diet or bedding, or toys, and the little kids don't know how to handle them. Also a lot of the time they're kept together which might be the worst out of all the things.

I’ve found some good money saving tips are: 1. For a themed enclosure, sometimes tissue companies will theme their boxes for seasons or holidays. (Spring theme, Christmas theme, fall theme, etc). These can make great themed hides, and good to chew on!! 2. If you already bought a hamster ball, but don’t use it anymore, cut a hole the size of your ham in it, sand down any sharp edges, and add a few more ventilation holes, it makes a nice hideout! Or if you split the ball in half (and sand down any sharp edges) and add some more ventilation, it can be an igloo! 3. Is it summer and your worried about your hamster getting hot? Take a empty popsicle box and make sure there are no spills on the inside or out, then put the box in the freezer. Put in in your hammies cage it and you have a summer themed, cool area!

Ok so we did everything wrong! A) impulse purchased hamster B) at a pet store C) bought the tiny tales castle for him on clearance D) got him a ball and totally stressed him out with it E) tried to handle him the first day and got bit, as deserved F) tiny layer of bedding. So, it’s six days later and I’ve binged your channel and a few others as well. I am totally in love with this hamster and so are the kids. So I’ve already made him a DIY bin cage with very deep bedding and some safe tunnels and caves, foraging food, and a sand bath. I connected it to his existing cage hoping that will enable us to keep the one week of acclimation he’s already got. Don’t want to stress him more. He’s getting used to coming to us for a treat and showing us his preferences. He’s very happy with the much deeper layer of bedding in his castle, and burrows and forages. He hasn’t found the bin cage though, he found the tunnel but wasn’t brave enough to go through it yet. It’s not been a whole day. So I have two questions! 1) if I have a connected cage with water do all other cages have to have water? 2) is there a stress free way to introduce him to the bin cage or coax him through the tunnels? Thanks!

Your hamster will eventually discover a whole new enclosure for him to live in.

He did figure it out! It took a couple of days. Now he’s a pro at going back and forth. He has a sand bath and a few burrows in the bin cage, lots of places to forage and hide, a little nook he stores his seeds in. I offer fresh food daily in the cage above and he uses his wheel a lot, sometimes sleeps there but seems to be changing his sleeping burrow these days like he hasn’t found a favorite spot.

Guess what? I got a hamster because of you! He is a cute brown Syrian with a white belly and I named him Ginger. I gave him the prevue 528 cage and the correct size wheel. It’s 9 inches for now but I have an 11 inch he is still a baby. And I hav the same bedding as you! I gave him 2 days without me touching him. Then yesterday I started taking him. He was grooming in my hand! I picked him up three times without him biting me! I’m so happy and it’s all because of you! ❤️😁🤗

A lot of the times i find that it can actually be more expensive to do it the wrong way than doing it the right way. Especially when you purchase a crittertrail "kit" where you get everything but it breaks so you have to get new stuff anyways. Those are 30 to 50 bucks. When a bin is about 20 to 30, then you are just buying the regular supplies. You can get popsicle stick from the dollar store, i use aspen bedding and paper mix, with a little hay too. Also petsmart price matches, so they have the 8 inch and 12 in comfort wheels/silent spinners, pricematch those suckers. I pay like 4 bucks for an 8 inch comfort wheel. If you know how to beat the system it can be super cheap and probably cheaper than doing it the wrong way. Not sponsored, but people who like carefresh, sign up for club carefresh, they give you 5 dollar off coupons, sign up for petco's program and REGISTER YOUR PETS BIRTHDAY. they give you a FREE toy or treat(under 4 dollars) and petsmarts treats, you get points back, and the treats price on items, petsmart also sends coupons for your pets birthdays. During halloween, look in target and walmart. They have these cute candy dishes that are perfect for hides, and they are 4 dollars? So yeah, there is a ton of ways to get your stuff super cheap. Fight the power and make those petstore cringe mwahahaha.

Omg! I didn't know you didn't have to clean your hamster's enclosure once a week! Many sites say to do so once a week and to be honest I've had my doubts about it but went ahead and followed.. I'm glad i got to your video! It hasn't been that long since i got my hamster so know i will take proper care of its bedding. Thank you!

I own a hamster, I am 11 years old and once the government lets us go to stores and stuff, I’m gonna get a bin cage!!! :) I do have a Critter tales cage right now... but my hamster is out 80% of the time. He has only been in the cage for a month so he should be fine for now. But I promise to give him the best cage in the world! It may take some time to save up, but I will get there. ♥️🐹

something i recently discovered that’s perfect for hamsters, especially dwarves: the walmart school supply bins with all the holes in them. I got the smaller one, i can link it too but it doubles as a hide and my djungarian loves to go through the holes, and to climb up it!! it also doubles as a hide, and I got it for $1!

For bedding, if you buy bedding when it is on sale it is way cheaper. It seems like a different type of bedding is always on sale so buy the sale bedding (as long as it is safe)

I got my girl Pixel a bin cage today. 595 sq inches. Spent all day at Walmart with my tape measure and calculator measuring their bins.
