I see I am late, but I may have been born with some degree of it. My mom LOVED chocolate and nuts and rhubarb, and insisted on serving lots of beets, including greens. I had dysbiosis from my early teens. We didn't know what it was--nerves? Lactose intolerance? Cutting out milk didn't help. I fractured bones easily. Environmental intolerances gradually appeared, and the standard advice for that is to eat lots of antioxidants. I noticed I only felt worse after drinking beet root-and-greens smoothies. When I finally heard about oxalate overload and the major sources of oxalates, it really rang bells.

First, I am so impressed that you actually read and respond to the comments beneath your videos. Then I must say, the camera loves you. You know how to speak/connect to us through your camera! Your eye-contact with your "audience" is remarkable. I never once felt that you were reading a script/notes; and the amount of free info you offer is outstanding. Also, but "off topic", you look lovely; your hair is beautiful. As for root causes, I have so many! To think you offer a personal session is a bit overwhelming. I've never had any physician, primary care or specialist, actually listen to me for more than a couple minutes! I do have fat malabsorption which has been a problem as I've tried to get more MCTs, for various health issues. I've been eating a very high oxalate diet, thinking it is heart/brain healthy. I'm old, 75 years old, and trying to maintain what health I have left! I will watch all your videos.

Aw, Jeanne! You are too sweet! Thank you for your kind words. I pride myself in helping people feel listened to, it was one of my biggest sadnesses when I was so sick, that the doctors didn't really listen. Have you been prescribed prescription strength enzymes for your fat malabsorption? Take good care.

Hi Carmel, I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well and are feeling overwhelmed. At moments like these, it's good to take a deep breath, slow down, and start working the process from the beginning. And even though the oxalates have made things worse, this is good information for you, to know that these foods aggravate your symptoms. With care and attention, you can learn what your body needs from you. Thanks so much for watching! I have chronic candida and oxalate overload and the solution thus far has been to slow endogenous oxalate production with b6 and vitamin b1 while using a low oxalate diet. Hopefully if everything works out this should allow inflammation to decrease slowly to help get the immune system back online to help eradicate chronic candida overgrowth in the intestine.

Sounds like a good approach, Thao, good luck! And KZbin has hidden your other comment, but I believe you were asking me about my root causes of oxalate sensitivity. I'm thinking now that it has to do with fungal overgrowth. I've been seeing some improvement with prescription antifungal medication.

Summary: Oxalate sensitivity can result from various factors: - Antibiotic use, which can reduce oxalate-degrading bacteria in the gut. - Nutrient deficiencies, including vitamin B1, B6, calcium, or magnesium deficiencies, leading to increased oxalate production or decreased binding of oxalates. - Fat malabsorption, causing excess fat to bind calcium instead of oxalates. - Leaky gut, allowing oxalates to enter the bloodstream and trigger symptoms. - Yeast and fungal overgrowth, which can produce excess oxalates, worsened by bacterial or parasitic infections. - Overconsumption of high oxalate foods, often associated with specific diets like paleo or keto. To assess oxalate sensitivity, you can: - Use a food symptom diary to track food intake and symptoms. - Consider specialized tests like the Organic Acids Test or GI MAP stool test. - Avoid sudden reductions in oxalate intake to prevent oxalate dumping. - A holistic approach is essential, considering multiple factors in managing oxalate sensitivity.

My story is an unusual one ! I actually used to own a bbq restaurant and had this famously good bbq sauce… which turned out to be an oxalates nightmare. I was boiling down and concentrating soy sauce with cayenne, sunflower oil, heaps of sugar and tomato puree. All bad stuff. Every day I would taste for quality control many times and eat it on my meat. I spent alot of time on my feet and my talus bone in my ankle just crumbled, i am deducing due to oxalates leaching calcium away. I had a gout like symptom in my big toe but no actual gout, a bit of a give away as to the culprit ! Now i have discovered carnivore, oxalates, lectins and i am hoping my body will repair my bone without surgery. Lets hope so !

I have also learnt recently that collagen converts in the body to oxalate. Although I could be said to have consumed a medium to high oxalate diet in the past (dark chocolate, ceremonial cacao hot chocolate, raspberries, nuts especially) it never seemed to bother me. The oxalate overload symptoms seemed to have appeared in my body a few months after beginning my heavy metal detox which is paradoxical in and of itself. I'm wondering now if one of my detox supplements.... Biosil Collagen Generator (apparently binds to particular heavy metals) has had an unintended consequence of creating too much collagen in my body which then converts to oxalate to the point of tipping me over the point where my body can tolerate it. On the plus side.... My hair has never looked or felt better. Dang... I hope it's not the Biosil causing my oxalate problems 😢

I have been told that i have fibromyalgia for 20 years. Terrible pain all iver my body. I have always had ibs and digestive issues. The so call fibro pain also consisted of a constant muscle spam under my right ribcage. Turns out after 10 years of this i had gallstones. I had not been digesting fat forever. I think the reason I also had Endometriosis. Anyway i got gallstones stuck in my bile duct and had to have my gallbladder out. This stopped pain under my ribcage but joint pain and burning pain just got worse and worse. I was eating really heathy whole food diet. Loads if chi seeds, beetroots, so on. I realised after seeing some videos i could have this problem. Especially as i remember a few years ago, i couldn't stomach sweet potato s and spinach. I have just cut down a lot and want to see if it helps. I have even started eating meat after 40 years. Which i don't really want to. I have also just relaised that i should try and go slow. So don't want to cut it all out.thanks for video.

I have a question: some foods high in oxalates are also high in calcium (almonds, chiaseeds etc), does that make them save to eat or not? Does drinking a glas of milk during dinner or eating a desert made from yoghurt after dinner help reduce the risk of oxalate related symptoms?
@ConfluenceNutrition2 жыл бұрын
The short answer is, it depends. My personal experience with oxalates is that I didn't respond poorly to every high oxalate food. So the true issue is whether or not you experience symptoms from those specific foods or not, regardless of the calcium content. It's possible that dairy products reduce the risk of oxalates, but again, the real question is would the additions (milk/yogurt/etc.) help YOU tolerate oxalates better? See the difference?

This is very clear and helpful. Thank you. I am curious--- is there a particular reason you call it oxalate 'sensitivity', as opposed to explicitly calling oxalate a mild toxin? Susan Owens has been so adamant about not understanding it in terms of mere sensitivity. I have been following her 'map', protocol etc. for about three years, with great success. I wish she could be as clear as you are in presentation. But I do take her very seriously. My root causes-- to answer your question: b6 deficiency, long term use of high doses of Vit C, high oxalate diet.
@ConfluenceNutrition2 жыл бұрын
Hi Amy, well, I suppose you could look at it either way...when you are sensitive to oxalates, then yes, they are a mild toxin, but plenty of people eat oxalate foods, like spinach and chard, without any problems, because they are able to break them down and excrete them. For those people it's not a toxin. So I consider it a sensitivity or intolerance, caused by changes in the gut that make it harder to break down and excrete. Thanks so much for watching, and I love Susan Owens's resources. I'm glad you've found imrpovement.

Coconut is a low oxalate food... is it not? (re: 5:25)
@ConfluenceNutrition5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes, coconut is a low oxalate food, but as I explained earlier in the video, undigested fats can aggravate an oxalate issue, because it can deplete magnesium and calcium, which would otherwise bind up oxalates. Certain diets, like paleo, recommend using lots of fat, including coconut oil and ghee, and can contribute to more oxalate symptoms.

I'm missing oxalobacter formigenes according to my stool test. I also took several of the antibiotics listed that kill this bacteria. Now I'm curious how I can reintroduce the organism to my gut. I haven't seen any probiotics available for oxalobacter formigenes.
@ConfluenceNutrition3 жыл бұрын
To my knowledge, there isn't a product on the market that carries this. Generally increasing your gut microbiome diversity with the three categories of probiotics (Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria, Saccharomyces boulardii, and soil based probiotics) is a good strategy, as well as including small regular doses of fermented foods, if tolerated. It's slow work, but important, but you may or may not recover your oxalobacter, but that may not matter...does that make sense? I made a video about my probiotic recommendations: kzbin.info/www/bejne/enOpdJx8l6xgabs THanks for watching!

I have a question. Since 2005 I have had pretty severe sinus inflammation that comes and goes, it’s like sinusitis but I don’t get sick with flu or mucus but my entire maxillary sinus cavities become inflamed and cause me a lot of pain. It’s so bad that it causes my entire head to feel pressure and my upper gums hurt. I have tried everything under the sun to figure out why this is happening and what is the root source. I have also tried Neti pot daily and other topical sprays etc. no luck. I’ve been a vegetarian since the age of 11 and I don’t eat gluten or eggs but the occasional cheese. I now don’t eat much sugar and I do intermittent fasting often. I still have this issue pop up out of the blue every few months and it normally takes weeks or longer to get the symptoms back down. My research has led me to discovering oxalates and I’m wondering if it could be related? I haven’t tried the oxalate diet as I will never eat meat as I am phobic with it so my vegetarian diet is for life. Could this sinus issue be coming from oxalates?
@ConfluenceNutrition Жыл бұрын
Anything is possible, but this isn't typically something I would associate with oxalates. Have your sinuses been swabbed for MARCONs? I don't know a whole lot about it, but it can be a persistent infection in the nose/sinuses.

After that i feel slight burn in my vagina area little bit inside and to stop that I started drinking water sip by sip but still i go feel burning sensation about 2 times a day . All day either I have urge to pee if not then i have burning sensation. I am really frustrated now . In my history burning pee was there from my childhood. We thought I don’t drink enough water so never cared about this. But now it is really affecting my life in many ways . I also lost my child at 40 weeks . Because in pregnancy i went to my gp so many times saying i have burning pee everytime they check is infection after thst I stopped drinking much water. I really want to know what should i do to stop this . I need your help
@ConfluenceNutrition3 жыл бұрын
Hi Nisha, first of all, I'm so sorry to hear you lost your child :( Regarding the burning pee, have you tried reducing dietary oxalates as I mentioned in this video? It's possible this is the root cause of the problem you're experiencing, but it could also be other causes. Dietary salicylates are another possibility, chronic fungal infection, and a condition called interstitial cystitis. BUt I think your first step would be to explore an oxalate reduction diet to see if that improved things. IN this video, I discuss how to do it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4Kxl3WqbbODgJY Keep me posted on your progress.
