I recently discovered J have an oxalate problem and I am adjusting my diet but I would love to know how to make the detox of stored oxalate more efficient. For instance, would epsom salt baths or hyperthermia (sauna) help release oxalate from the tissues? Thank you for all your videos. I have found them to be immensely helpful during my process. ❤️

I have been delving into this topic, and hard from a lady who actually used to be a vegan for 8 yrs and realized she was full of oxalats with painful kidney stones, that the buildup of oxalates are HARD to get out of your body. Plus they suck out and deplete your stores of potassium, calcium etc. She ended up having to HEAVILY supplement her potassium BIG TIME. Do some research but she found that taking potassium citrate and magnesuim citrate supplements REALLY helped her.

Hi Rue, for most foods, it's throughout, but I do think that some plant foods with oxalate have higher concentrations in the skin. Like sweet potatoes, for example. Lettuce is not typically considered high oxalate, but most kales, collard greens, and especially chard and spinach are high oxalate.

Do increased colonies in the gut microbiome negate or decrease the effects if anti nutrients lik oxalates, letins and phytic acid?
@ConfluenceNutrition
@ConfluenceNutrition 2 жыл бұрын
Theoretically, these antinutrients are mostly a problem if they can make it through your gut lining (leaky gut). If your gut lining is sealed or the microbiome can break them down, then they shouldn't really be a problem. Since probiotics help maintain this gut barrier, theoretically having a good balance would be helpful. However, we each need to experiment to understand our personal tolerance and relationship with probiotic supplements...even though they're good in theory, they may or may not help these specific problems. Everyone is different! Thanks for watching, and thank you for a great question!

I’m very confused about “endogenous” oxalate production. Does that mean I need to eat even lower oxalate from my diet than someone who's not an endogenous producer? Won’t I “dump” even more?
@ConfluenceNutrition
@ConfluenceNutrition 3 жыл бұрын
Well, everyone produces some amount of oxalates, and normally, we're able to excrete the excess or break it down. You only need to reduce oxalates if you have a clear oxalate problem...does that make sense?
@Samyramirez
@Samyramirez 3 жыл бұрын
Everyone produces some oxalates but it's usually a small amount that your body can deal without issues. Your body knows how to deal with oxalates normally. The problem comes from giving a lot of oxalates to your body, more than it can handle
@ConfluenceNutrition
@ConfluenceNutrition 3 жыл бұрын
@@Samyramirez yes, but it can also come by having a fungal overgrowth or mold exposure, fungus can produce oxalates as well, and this can contribute to the overwhelm.

@@ConfluenceNutrition very very interesting that you mention that…I’m beginning to think that’s possibly my issue. I developed “sandy” stools within a month of food poisoning in 2019, on sunflower seeds. I’ve read recently that “sandy” stools are a sign of oxalate dumping - and also that sunflower seeds are often contaminated with mold. I’ve been dumping constantly since the food poisoning. An OAT test didn’t indicate elevated levels of mold, but maybe I need to order a Mycotoxin test?
@ConfluenceNutrition
@ConfluenceNutrition 3 жыл бұрын
@@Boojerella Generally, I feel there are many things to handle before investigating for mold. The investigation process requires you have a knowledgeable practitioner to interpret all those tests accurately. IT's a nuanced thing, not cut and dried at all. A mold-oxalate problem would be more likely from an ongoing exposure, like in your home or workplace, than from a one-time problem...it sounds to me like perhaps you acquired a longer term infection from your food poisoning episode. This is often a trigger for SIBO. I would be attending to diet, digestive function, and stress relief before going down the mold rabbit hole...just my two cents, though! You proceed with what feels relevant to you...thanks for your questions!

if u eat organic grains with gluten you dont need to worry about the oxalate? as they are not high oxalate unless they are non organic in which its the Spray that makes it high in oxalates is that rigth?
@ConfluenceNutrition
@ConfluenceNutrition 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Teresa, gluten grains are high in oxalate, even if they are organic, so if you are sensitive to oxalates, gluten will be important to reduce in your diet. But non-organic wheat is especially high in oxalate because it not only has gluten, but has usually been sprayed with round up (glyphosate) as a drying agent and perhaps during the growing season as well. I hope that clarifies!

@ConfluenceNutrition

According to the Trying Low Oxalates food list, brown rice is medium, and most legumes are also medium. As with your question about jicama, it will depend on dosage, frequency of consumption, and whether you are sensitive to that particular oxalate food. My advice would be to experiement carefully to see what you can tolerate. Meanwhile, work on resolving the oxalate issue from it's roots!

what are the symtoms so that you know that food is a trigger food for you?
@ConfluenceNutrition
@ConfluenceNutrition 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Teresa, any one person's symptoms will be a little different. For me, high oxalate foods would trigger severe gut and back pain and literally throw my back out. If I just eat a little, I may also experience some joint pain in my hands and feet. Others may have gut pain, diarrhea, headaches, or aches and pains in other parts of the body. I met someone once who had severe vulvodynia (vulvar pain) and chronic bladder pain from oxalate sensitivity. So once you've reduced oxalates in the diet, then to test, you would reintroduce high oxalate foods and look for a change in symptoms, or a flare of symptoms you know were related to those foods. I hope that helps!

Regarding the following items, does anyone here know which of these are high - or low - in Oxalates? 1) Moringa -- a weight loss and energy supplement, taken in the form of a powder shaken up with liquid drink, in hopes of various health benefits. I'm particularly interested in the powdered form (ready to put in a shake drink, etc.) Someone I care about consumes this stuff daily, and I'd like to be able to share with her about its oxalates content. 2) wheat grass shots -- a green drink, favored by raw food enthusiasts, made by putting 'wheat grass' into a juicer. 3) rooibos tea -- a caffeine-free alternative to green tea. It is said to have high levels of antioxidants. It might be in the category of Herbal Tea, however I'm wondering if it has been measured in particular. Many health benefits are listed for it, including helping with getting more sleep. Thanks! 🙂
