I'm working in an open plan office. Although some of my co-workers sometimes complain, I like it because it is easy to communicate with each other. Every time I am stuck on a difficult task, I try to get help from them, I guess that's why some of them hate it.

In my first job I had to hot desk. I worked in customer service and we had to maintain 24-hour service, so when one shift finished work, the next shift came in and used the same desks. Our office was an open plan office. It was quite noisy and it was difficult to focus on work. In my current job we have a very nice break room. It's a pleasant place where we can spend a break, but to be honest I've only seen it in a photo because I currently work from home. My company has a smart casual dress code, but when I work in my home office, I can even work in my pyjamas. I don't have to use a printer in my work. All our records are digital. I'm very happy about this because printers are a constant problem, I like the phrase "they're notorious unreliable" It's hard to say how much time I've lost trying to pull out jammed paper.
@Oxfordonlineenglish12 жыл бұрын
Excellent. Thanks for sharing, Zofia. You used some great phrases and vocabulary from the lesson. One tip for you: '...they're notoriously unreliable,' not, 'notorious.' Hope this is useful for you!

I work in a shiftwork system and me and my workmates use a hot desk to work. We share also information on this hot desk. This is very usefull, because we don´t see us every day. The night watch is also sleeping in this room, so we have a "hot bed" *laugh*, no serious we use a bed with different casing for everyone, who has to sleep on work. Thank you for all your work!
@Oxfordonlineenglish12 жыл бұрын
Nice! Thanks for sharing a great response. Here are some tips: 1) It's more grammatically correct to say, 'my workmates and I,' rather than, 'me and my workmates.' 2) 'We also share information..' not, 'We share also information...' 3) '...useful because we don't see each other every day,' not, '...usefull, because we don´t see us every day.' Hope this helps you!

Most of the office I work in is open plan but there are also departments in separate rooms. Most people dress smart casual but occasionally it´s possible to wear a casual attire, on Fridays for example. We have heavy-duty photocopiers and printers scattered around the office and our I.T department is supposed to have them fixed whenever they play up. There´s also a break room where staff can go for a quick cup of coffee or snack. There are cameras monitoring the office and activity tracking software which staff frown upon but nobody has been called out on anything during all the years I´ve been with the company.
@Oxfordonlineenglish12 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing a great response. Here are some corrections for you: 1) '...to wear casual attire,' not, 'a casual attire.' 2) It looks like you may be using accent marks rather than apostrophes here: 'it´s possible...' and, 'There´s also...' It should be, '...it's possible...' and, 'There's also...' 3) 'Most people dress smart casually,' or, 'Most people wear smart casual clothing,' not, 'wear smart casual.' Hope this helps you!

I work in an open plan office, which can make it hard to focus on my daily tasks. Luckily, we have some cubicles that we can use to isolate ourselves from the others. Before I go to the office, I have to book a desk, which will be reserved for the day and before I can enter the office, I have to swipe my card at the front door. The dress code is casual so we can wear whatever we like and there are no personal offices no matter your role in the company. There are surveillance cameras but I doubt that they ever look at the tapes unless there's a special reason to do so. We also have a conference room for larger meetings.

Our office is an open plan space and we don't have strict dress code. So people can enjoy a rather flexible way of working and clothes wearing. Besides I also love the atmosphere within the team, we don't bother each other so much and we don't do a lot of bonding activities. This way I can plan my time freely and I don't have heavy needs for socializing

We have strict dress code but sometimes people still wear what they want, especially the girls. We have no photocopier but we get one printer, which is not heavy-duty, because it can only print out documents. We have tight security. We swipe card for entrance, elevator and doors in the basement. If you forget to bring your card, you are stuck at your desk and going nowhere.

Thank you for your lesson! I work in an open plan office. It’s light and simply designed office, but it can be too quiet sometimes, and it can be hard to focus on my work. Professional staff hot desks because they work in different locations on different days for different teams. But administrative staff have cubicles because they’re doing routine work. Our company has a dress code that match to the client you are visiting. We have some small meeting room in our office. When there is a New Year’s greeting, we need to rent a larger space somewhere else. Before COVID-19, our office still relies on paper records for many things. But our company decided to go paperless without very important documents recently, so most of records are digital. Eventually it’s very useful because we had to telecommute. Our office has tight security. Most internal doors are kept locked and you need a swipe card to open them. Riding an elevator is no exception. 🏢

Hi, please help! I have this big doubt, what'ss the difference between "closed eyes or eyes closed"? Doesn't the adjective always go before the noun? I would appreciate your support
@commonsense7729 Жыл бұрын
It’s true that in English the adjective always comes before the noun. But when the adjective is in the past participle form it can come after the noun thus focusing on the verb/adjective. Eyes closed is a short form of “eyes (that are) closed. We can say “interesting topics” and also “topics that are interesting” but not (topics interesting). Whereas we can say “people interested in this topic..” I hope I’m not wrong in my explanation and that I have made it clearer for you.

Excellent response about your office! One small tip to make your response even better: '...an unreliable printer,' not, 'a.'

I'm working in an open plan that we called here as coworking space. So, yeah, the place so cramped. However, they prepare us with our own cubicle, so many cubicles that you may call it cubicle farm. We don't have so many different rooms as conference room or copy room, but we've laboratories which utilized as a main research facility.
