Love the way he responded to the older lady, who didn't really have a question - she just wanted to make a statement. He looked straight at her, and then expanded on what she was saying, making her feel valued and respected for her comments. And he would have carried on talking to her, if the guy introducing him hadn't moved on to someone else. How often do you see that - someone so respectful and careful with other people's dignity. That shows nobility of character, and humility. A whole lesson in itself.

Could well be the explanation. But I still think that many others in that situation - having the spotlight on you in a Q&A session, would have felt the pressure, and would have said to her - "So, what's your question?" He didn't do that, despite it probably being obvious to him that this was not Q&A, and that most people seeing it would know it wasn't. Her dignity - not embarrassing her in public, was more important. To me - that's impressive. Or perhaps I'm just too big a fan, and reading too much into this! :)

A J - No, it's impressive because it's so rare nowadays within out self centered culture. It used to be prevalent in society and I'll illustrate with a quick story. My dad and I were driving home from lunch when I noted that one of his friends was outside speaking with the police. I suggested we stop and see what's going on. To which my dad did the exact opposite and took another route home. When I asked him why he did that. He said that his friend was an adult and could take care of his own situation but what would make it worse was if he knew we saw him in a compromising situation. It was a move to save face and dignity, which is important in our culture. Dad didn't ignore the situation but knew that interrupting would have caused more harm than good for his friend. It turned out to be nothing serious but I learned a lesson about caring for the dignity of others that day.

You would be incorrect in stating that he initially disagreed, as Peterson quite clearly said, "I agree completely with your diagnosis." The only thing that they had a disagreement on per se.. which wasn't necessarily a disagreement but a clarification on prognosis, was the fact that the proliferation of ideas through free speech is designed not only to further the evolution of the individual, but his family unit and broader community, which the kid readily included into his analysis, and continued to ask the question about whether or not to regulate the most "vehement" and "egregious" forms of free speech. It wasn't a disagreement, but a true question and dialogic process of informing both of them. It's also clear to me that the kid's mind is a supercomputer. And there are serious negative implications when people adopt the ways of the West, but still in some unconscious ways are barred from being viewed as a full member of the Western society. Getting up early, making my bed every morning and keeping my personal space clean, tidy and organised was a good foundation. I then started doing push ups every day as exercise, and then cold showers, cold showers had a massive impact on me after a few weeks, it taught me to go through discomfort, and then other little steps which became easier and easier. It is very important to not just make little improvements but to remain consistent with them everyday after a while many good and positive habits will compound over weeks and months and will build into much bigger positive things in your life. I now wake up at 6.30 am most mornings without an alarm, my home is spotless and organised, I wild swim every morning workout 3 times a week, read one book a week, with all this on point work and grinding towards my goals is easy, I do have short lapses where I put things off to the next day, but if I try and do that I have my own mental prosses to just do NOW, just don't put things off, just do them now. 12 rules for life helped me immensely on my journey and pointed me in the right direction but bottom line it's your journey and you have to take action yourself, if you can't help yourself then no one will. I started with a fairly negative bias against JP because I came to know about him from articles and videos that were critical of him. There is a great video series called the alt-right playbook (its pretty good work, and well presented) which avoids naming him but it has lots of criticisms of certain points of view, and a comment stated that some of the viewpoints were those of JP. Another was an article which vilified JP for defending James Damore - who i think seriously lacked foresight and made a staggering blunder. I mean, he stated in his posts that women were more susceptible/sensitive to negative feelings and emotions. That itself should have warned him how women and thereby google HR will see it. Also, he probably didn't have the eloquence or knowledge of JP to back himself (even if he had, he wouldn't be given the chance to defend himself anyway). These sources had formed a very negative picture of JP in my head... However, I was curious about how JP did it!! I mean, the way his points of views had been presented to me - thy were almost indefensible to any sensible person. How did JP do it? What did he say that millions of people (who I had no reason to assume were malicious) had been so affected by his words that they had decided to side with these seriously flawed, seemingly extreme and possibly harmful points of views (as they had been portrayed to me)? Once I had seen a few of his videos... I am completely blown away. I am appalled in the way the left leaning sources have tried to malign his message - its nowhere near how it has been portrayed. They are seriously doing themselves a disservice, and losing their credibility in the process. They might gain a little in the short term, but will lose big time in the long term, as people come to know the underhanded and malicioius ways they are operating. Now that I have seen a few of JPs videos, I have a much better understanding of where James Damore was coming from. In JPs words (rephrasing), the world is very difficult to change - and James Damore's attempt of changing it (with best intentions) was well meaning, but was not well planned and thought out and thus, in a way, destined to fail.

I so respect Peterson for his intellect and stoicism. But I gained even more respect for him after this Q&A simply by the manner in which he answered the last question. He recognised the relative 'impressionability' of the crowd he has speaking to. Given JBP's feelings for Trudeau, the question forced him to consider, not his answer, but the way he was going to articulate his disdain. I think he didn't want to deride Trudeau too vigorously in front of impressionable, yet intelligent, but still impressionable youth. He realizes how much weight his words currently have and didn't want to place a wrong impression of how one should carry themself.
@littleboots98006 жыл бұрын
Jason G I totally agree. I like the way he often pauses, often for quite a while, before setting out his responses. Much of this is probably down to the way in which his words are twisted or taken out of context but I think also because he feels the weight of responsibility that lies on him given the scrutiny his words are under, to be truthful. (One of his steps I believe.) I also like the way he sometimes answers a question with a very honest, "I don't know.." when he genuinely doesn't. Too many ppl have too much ego to simply admit that, thinking it will diminish them in the eyes of their audience.

Jason G he isn’t an intellectual he just speaks clearly. Fine respect his stoicism but for god’s sake don’t respect someone who speaks on topics outside his field and clearly doesn’t know or intentionally mars history. Dr P was of course willingly taking his own medicine. Being offered (by the nature and place of the question) an easy opportunity - say like a Samson - to push further apart the pillars of Trudeau's PC Temple, so as to bring on further chaos with no certainty of any real benefit. " hmmm....do no harm.....best bet" he was thinking. Hence the pause. So true to form he tasted the very potion he would consider offering as remedy for the ailment....."tread very very carefully when in a position of power, and don't make things worse"
@solaveritas26 жыл бұрын
Jason G I share that sentiment. Really pleased he didn't just slam Trudeau, which would have been so easy. But I believe that we need to respect the office of the PM, if not the person himself, because otherwise we undermine this democratic institution in the long run.

I believe the problem is that the US is a monarchy of Britain, which is why we have had 50 protestant president and only 2 Catholic of which Kennedy was shot for being Catholic and there is Bidden who is NOT a Catholic but poses as one. The problem goes back to Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary, which became the take over of Catholicism. The Queen urged everyone to give up Catholicism and use only the Bible as a guide, this disempowered Catholicism and gave the queen power to Colonize, which she has done for over 500 years now. We are a product of false government, how can this be a democracy when 2/3rds is Protestant and one third is Catholic, how can a Catholic win a vote for president and why isnt a Catholic allowed to be royal, only protestant can fill the chair of royalty. The Queen is Eve from the bible and has taken man down a path of sin.

@reaper0606706 жыл бұрын
Jordan Peterson is one of those voices who will be remembered, for centuries to come, as one of a few who dared to speak out against this latest ideology from the left. He is a very wise man indeed and it was wonderful to sit down in my room and be able to listen to his fine ideas for helping making humanity what it would hopefully like to be. I always enjoy listening to this mans ideas and I cannot wait to buy his book 12 steps ... ... ... . Forgive me for forgetting the full title. I'm sure some bright person will correct me in the title anyway. I only found out about Jordan Peterson maybe a couple of months ago which says more about me as a person than I would like it to. I thought I was fairly intelligent until I began listening to this man speak. He has completely opened my mind to new ideas and I'm so grateful for that. I have enjoyed hearing his speak now so many times over the past 2 months and I look forward to reading his material and hearing him speak in the future. With that said there are times when I need to break out the thesaurus to help me understand the meaning of some of what he means but I truly believe that's a great thing. I watched sit down between Peterson, Shapiro and Rubin? They were speaking about how they had found fame and both Peterson and Shapiro pointed to their putting down of these lefty snowflakes as the beginning of it for them. Shapiro slapped that lefty fool on Gun Controls, his name escapes me ATM.. The point I was trying to make is what Shapiro said, he said that people saw his interview on CNN? and they came to his speeches thinking he was that way all the time only to find that he was far deeper than that and they stayed for hours to listen. It just shows that people are starving for real discussion across our world but we have a set or group of people? yes let's all call them people..haha! These so called "people" who pull the strings of humanity are not interested in the concept of real and verifiable free speech. They are only interested in wielding power and the best way to do that is tribalism and political correctness. These ideas have fundamentally shifted our thinking and have in turn caused us to think before we speak. There's nothing wrong with thinking before u speak until it's used as a way to stifle debate/discussion.. I love his thinking on tribalism and the way he speaks on successful societies, and also his views on sacrificing the sovereign rights of individuals for the right of the state.. I could speak all day and I'm sure I don't understand everything he speaks on but that's down to me to educate myself better. This man makes me want to be better as a human being. I'm pretty sure he has that effect on many millions who watch his lectures, etc. Thank you for this brilliant video

I think his reasoning behind not banning "hate speech" is quite good. It's impossible to label "hate speech" because everyone's opinion on it is going to be different. What you like, someone else is going to dislike. Different things float different people's boats. I certainly don't want anyone telling me what I can say and what I have to find offensive. In addition to that though I think the best reason behind not wanting to ban "hate speech" is because it is a restriction of freedom. You should be able to say whatever you like to say. It doesn't matter who likes it or dislikes it. It's your liberty.
@jordonhodges84936 жыл бұрын

Only a few years ago, the mere idea that speech could be banned and that there were people in favour of censorship, was considered fascism and rejected outright. Today however, some people seem quite happy with totalitarian policies, and can't wait for more government intervention in every sphere of life and personal liberties. It's our decadent western societies craving for self-destruction. Too many people with too much time that have never suffered any hardships and are bored with their meaningless, coddled consumer lives.
