I'm playing the mini-base mod, it's day 17, and I just got a choice of care-packages that included three dupes that I couldn't feed and bleach-stone. So I chose the bleach-stone, and when it started offgassing, I chucked it in my food storage area. Thanks to your tutorial, I've just realized what an EPIC supply the bleach-stone really is. TIL...

Seems they are balanced in such a way that their only real purpose is dreckos and med-packs then. Makes sense, they'd break the game otherwise. Thanks for yet another amazing video!

The biggest challenge of Balm Lilies is CO2 management, since your dupes exhale 20 g per second, and it sinks to the bottom and stops the plant groth. Atmosuits are required in order to sustain your farm in this case, making Drecko ranch a midgame thing. Compared to Mealwood, which requires dirt, but can live in O2/CO2, and with the airflow tile at the bottom, it can be completely sustainable as long as you keep the stable O2 pressure in your base and have enough dirt. Both requirements are met in the early game on Terra maps, giving you a great source of plastic early on in the form of Glossy Dreckos.

Just don't wear suits and your dupes won't exhale into the chlorine.

Yes, if dupes aren't in breathable gas, they will hold their breath until they get back into breathable gas. @@Lorens4444

@ponzll4037 GCFungus confirmed that duplicants exhale CO2 while holding their breath, so if you want to avoid CO2 in the area, like in the Balm Lily farm, atmosuits are necessary.
@Tennouseijin8 ай бұрын
Or put a Carbon Skimmer in the drecko ranch. Since it only uses power when there is CO2 in range, it would likely use very little power on average, so the only issue is designing the ranch to have space for it, as if drecko ranches weren't tricky to design well already 😆 Now, depending how you look at it carbon-skimmer + sieve might be considered late early game or early mid-game, but on asteroids without thimble reeds, I do often have those before I have atmo suits. (I should also mention, I typically run my first drecko ranches with mealwood, as that gets you glossy dreckos too, while typically still producing enough normal dreckos to give you some fiber production) (oh, and double checked this - stables to not care about industrial machinery, so carbon skimmers are ok)

I don't even remember a time when it needed fertilizer. They've been free for years, perhaps always have been and you misremember? Not sure.

GCFungus: "You'd need a lot of balm lilies to do things" Me: *sitting on a 140 plant farm for the sole purpose of sustaining my pacu* So then, I could probably feed two pokeshells sustainably if I was bothered to get into plant mutations Also, you seem to have copied your comments over from the Saturn Critter Traps video

I think wild-planted Sleet Wheat is better for feeding Pacu? That's 4 plants per fish, as opposed to balm lilies' 12 plants per fish _with a good farmer._
@johns60148 ай бұрын
@@Tzizenorec Perhaps, but my main planetoid was too hot for sleet wheat when I would have needed the seeds, even if I had any to seed a farm or the means to run a cooler. Besides, I relied on sleet wheat for my last base, and for this one, I wanted to experiment with ommelette-fed sage hatches, at least until I reached space. As it turns out, a 12-pacu breeding farm with a hot room to cook raw eggs can autonomously sustain a 36 sage hatch breeding farm, only requiring a seed input. I might convert over to sleet wheat eventually, but I don't need to at the moment.
@Tzizenorec8 ай бұрын
@@johns6014 Wait, is it profitable to feed the omelettes to sage hatches? Ima do some math... Sage hatches consume 700 calories per cycle for 6 cycles to produce 1 egg which becomes 3200 calories of meat. So they convert 4200 calories into 3200 calories (plus 1.5 kg of coal). I think you're better off just feeding the dupes the omelettes.
