The problem I have with Oprah is she LIED about it. I'm fine with her taking whatever she wants, BUT she is the owner of Weight Watchers and claims that was her key to success. So she made lots of MONEY on her LIES. Deceived those struggling with the same issues. That's why I lost respect for Oprah. AGAIN, don't care she took the drugs and good for her for achieving her weight loss goal. BUT THE LIES. Also, since Oprah ended her show, she has more and more over the years become racist. It's really shameful. THAT is far more of a problem to me than the way she looses weight.

By far the best take on this topic I've seen yet. Remember who the real enemy is. It's not each other, but the messed up food systems that made us sick and fat.
@mattdonlan77456 ай бұрын
My problem isn't with people's weight, it's with the fact that the food industry is allowed to sell food they know will make us sick and has zero health benefits (many under the guise of "health food"), all so big pharma can sell us a cure to the poison. The food industry needs to be regulated and held responsible in the same way cigarette companies were in the 1980s.

My husband and I went on vacation with another couple. The husband was very overweight. We were shocked and disgusted at how much abuse he took from total strangers who felt totally fine about making blatant comments, acting irritated, etc. I can't imagine being so rude and so cruel, but apparently there are a LOT of people that feel free to critique others for their weight.

I take Ozempic for T2 diabetes, and as a happy side effect I lost 15% of my body weight in 3 months. This took a lot of pressure off my hips and knees, allowing me to walk much further and with considerably less pain. I am no longer losing weight, but my body is getting stronger, and without that kick start from Ozempic, my health wouldn't be improving. After my next test results, I expect to have turned the diabetes diagnosis around and not need Ozempic any more, and my health will continue to improve even without it- but I'm so happy it was there at the start.
@dianelipson54206 ай бұрын
But you are in the only group who needs it. No one should be taking that drug away from the people who need it. No one should take that drug over looks.
@JustMe-ks8qc6 ай бұрын
@@dianelipson5420 Agreed, although I was only just over the threshold for a diabetes diagnosis. That said, I've always struggled with my weight, especially post menopause and with some mobility issues, so it really was a double bonus for me. That extra weight was going nowhere without the ozempic. I do wonder if, instead of giving it to people who want it but don't need it and for however long they want it, the consider giving it pre-emptively to people who are dangerously overweight for a fixed 3 month period. If they don't lose weight in 3 months, then they are working REALLY hard to keep the weight on. That could give them the kick start they need to continue to lose the weight in a healthy way after the three months, avoiding the expense and dangers of batiatric surgery. Maybe ozempic should be refined a little more first though, because this potential (albeit unlikely) side effects would be very dangerous for somebody who was already very unhealthy. Just thinking out loud.

My spouse is diabetic & on ozempic ( along with other medications such as insulin) but he’s also recovering from a brain aneurysm that required him to learn everything from movement to speech. The bottom line is he’s not losing weight but needs the ozempic to assist his diabetes management & he does catch crap because he isn’t slimming down, we’re concentrating on improving his ability to move & to think. I am afraid he may be harmed by side effects of ozempic without those benefits. And yes people do mutter negative things under their breath, but they don’t know what he has had to relearn just to get to where he’s now. He will always have memory loss, hearing loss, lameness in one leg, & accelerated aging that comes with the side effects of being diabetic for over 45 years. It would be nice if ozempic made him slim down but not if it damages what little neurological ability he currently has.

And also that, when these rich celebrities buy up all the stocks of Ozempic for their easy route to weight loss, they create shortages of that drug for those whose *actual lives* depend on them being able to have that drug. Suddenly they're having to find alternative sources when their supplies run out, and panicking that they won't get them renewed in time - except, for them, it's not just so they can look great for their career and social media, it's a literal *matter of life and death.*

you are totally wrong about the anger - it's not because they lost weigh, it's because they lied about HOW they achieved it. Real people lose weight over a period of time and you can see the progression of weigh loss over time. There's no way someone disappears for two months and comes out looking skinny without some sort of help. We wouldn't be angry if they just admitted outright that they used a medication. There's nothing wrong with that at all. .... You put Oprah on a pedestal but she didn't admit to taking Ozympic until after people started accusing her of it.

Yes, it's true. I was very vocal about my healthy lifestyle at work, which attracted a lot of envy. However, I always politely advised those who needed to lose some weight or reduce their carb intake. The food industry indeed tends to overdose on sugar and salt. The public is becoming more educated, though. It's merely a problem of information and knowledge. But when this mixes with human nature, which tends to self-deception, and an industry prone to deception, the outcome is not good for the majority of us.

Here's where I see a constant disconnect for people that have a lot of weight to lose. The term "starved" is thrown around very liberally and loosely. "She starved herself." "He starved himself." "They lost weight by starving and no one should ever starve." Ok, hunger and hunger pangs (or pains) are annoying, but they ARE NOT starving. There is real and actual starvation in the world and some obese person missing a meal and a snack before bed is not starving. They're hungry. And being hungry is a beautiful thing when you are trying to lose weight.

I don't agree with where this guy is coming from. The reason people are disappointed when people lose weight using drugs is because we admire and seek inspiration in people with the ability to bring about any kind of positive change in their lives via intrinsic agency. It's a let down and further confirmation that our willpower is insufficient when our idols and stars can't make it on their own even with their resources. If they can't, how's the average person supposed to? Makes us feel hopeless and then we project that frustration onto them.

Ozempic is not all bad. I think if you’re just using it for vanity reasons and because you’re too lazy to actually try, that’s different. But for certain people, my mother for example, have struggled with hormonal issues and addiction they’re whole lives. Some people really benefit from it. Doesn’t change the potential side effects, but I think as long as you have a reputable doctor and they understand the risks, it’s not a terrible thing. Nothing is better than actually eating healthier and working out of course, but some people genuinely have issues that make that difficult. As someone who lost over 30 pounds on my own, it’s a lot easier said than done. A lot of people lack the will power and if their health is affected severely (obesity) I think it’s okay to be open about alternatives such a ozempic. It’s still not a magic pill, it comes with complications too
