I had one grandfather who flew bombers in WWII and became a commercial airline pilot for Delta afterword. He and my grandmother traveled all over the world (including Australia), he bought her Cadillacs back when Cadillacs were good, and he was a genuinely good person. Mom's dad was in the Army Corp of Engineers in WWII and was part of the Omaha Beach invasion. He was a multi-instrument musician who played in the Big Bands around Atlanta before the war and an artist and graphic designer when he got home. In contrast, I'm now 47 and feel like I have never and will never measure up to anything they did. I looked up to them both when they were alive and now that they're gone I miss them dearly.

This reminds me of my grandfather. Military with explosives, worked/ran a huge mine, had his own tv and computer shop, many adventures, and the coolest guy at the retirement home. I'm only 30 but man... They easily had already full lives by my age, and another one by your age.
@ExposingReflections

That's pretty Solid of you, to see that we're not the heros they were. Don't worry, keep them in your head and keep telling others about them. They can serve as inspiration, along with Ozzyman and his video, to ALL of us, to be more than we are. If I could be half the man, my father and grandfather were, I'd be pretty happy.

My father was a mechanic on basically anything not electrical based. Cars, golf carts, houses, oil rigs, planes, etc. He was a chief mechanic on the B29 Hurricane Squadron. Built a mobile home out of a school bus, before the internet. Street raced cars in his youth and motorcycles a little later with trophies that would line all fours walls of a large shed from top to bottom. Was married more than once, had more than one home, several cars. One house even had an inground pool before that was normal. Me on the other hand, can only claim survived homelessness for 1/4 of my life and was in the Infantry for a few years and left home when I was 18. I can not fix anything, can not play any musical instruments, tried many, but can not speak a second language. Thinking back, no wonder I feel like a loser

This makes me wish my grandparents were still alive. I'm still mad at the universe cause my grandfather on my dad's side died at fcking 99. NINETY NINE. Like y'all couldn't let him see 100 years? BS. And he was still sharp as a tick even down to his last days. It was both amazing yet heartbreaking too. I wanna be like him when I'm older. He was like a walking encyclopedia he seemed to know everything and he inspired me to learn Italian since he immigrated to America with his parents from Italy and that was all they spoke-he taught it to my dad and his bros and now I'm trying to learn it. That's because we know everyday we have fewer tomorrows😁. Seriously though, when young people see old people they forget that at one point we were young too (I don't mean you...I mean others). I think that's something that a person finds out as they age....the body may be slowing down, but you still feel younger in your mind. The mind seems to always think it's younger than the body....that's what Advil is for!

As someone with elderly clients, it bothers me that so many young people ignore them (they don't realise one day they too will be old), the issues with having no family or friends to keep in contact and leaving them isolated, and of course the health issies. It scares me that I will end up as a lonely elderly person that no one will notice or appreciate.
