The spotty really did fancy things up quite nicely. 👍

Man this bench just gets better and better, and with the weight of that spotted gum you will need a forklift to move it 👍👍👍
@kuffyswoodwork4 жыл бұрын
The overall bench isn't super super heavy. It's only about 130-140kgs. I can shift it around the shop quite easily, which I will likely have to do each time I cut sheet goods.

Ahh the old 'sliding back and forth checking for square' trick. Ripper bench mate, keep up the good work. All the best, Brian.

Thanks mate. It seems like the best method to quickly check to see if all pieces will work or whether I need to measure the all!

@@kuffyswoodwork yep, I've used this method myself.

For the benefit of our overseas viewers, it's true, you can weld Spotty, as it is harder than all non ferrous metals and a lot of the high carbon varieties. ;)
@kuffyswoodwork4 жыл бұрын
Lol, you certainly notice the hardness from the sound the thicknesser makes even when taking fine cuts.

It's nice stuff. It is really good for exterior decking boards.

Like the new plan better than the old plan! While plywood would work, it would not be in character for the bench.
@kuffyswoodwork4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I would have stained the plywood a fairly dark colour if I had used it.

Too good mate, I was in heaven when you used screws lol, spotted gum is pretty hard but a nice wood & the shelf is solid 🍻👍👍👍👍ps congratulations on 4K subs, should be 400K but you will keep going & people will eventually see the quality of your projects 🇦🇺🍻👍

I considered an elaborate bit of joinery to do away with the screws, but it is just so easy to use them. Cheers mate, 4k ticked over a day or so ago. Happy as a pig in 💩 🤣

Just got back from a full on camping trip and I'm feeling about as spaced out as those boards but still enjoyed the vid. Great idea to use t&g for weight etc.

Very nice mate, hope that spotted gum doesn’t break your heart in winter. I’ve experienced 4% movement in it and cupping regardless of what I screw it down with, then the board right next to it from the same production is as stable as phenolic resin
@kuffyswoodwork4 жыл бұрын
It should be pretty good. The boards have been in my house for four years, and most of them were still straight and flat. I'll be able to see the gaps close up in Winter. If they close too much, I'll shave a few down before they blow the bench legs apart.
@OneManBandWoodworks4 жыл бұрын
@@kuffyswoodwork I reckon you'll be ok you've done everything you can, I've just had suck bad experiences with it
@djeity4 жыл бұрын
Looking good! I was quite amused by the change in tools as you made adjustments to the boards: First saw followed by chisel, then saws only, then bandsaw. Who said it's not a precision instrument? :) As for the end cleats... well, I'm sure you feel better but 19mm spotty only 60cm long wouldn't bend if you parked on it. With a truck. For a year. Perfectionism rules!
@kuffyswoodwork4 жыл бұрын
Lol, I used all the tools deliberately. It demonstrates lots of options.
@berthatton94104 жыл бұрын
Great video series. Question: why would you not screw the shelf boards through the cleat from the underside thus eliminating the tiny dust traps on top and the view of the screw heads? Thanks
@kuffyswoodwork4 жыл бұрын
Many of the boards were warped. By screwing down, I create a strong clamping force. By screwing up into a thin board, there is a chance that the screw gets pulled out.
@DavesShed4 жыл бұрын
Maaaate!! You're not seriously going to cut anything on this bench are you? You might mess up that fine furniture you have made. It's better quality than my kitchen bench. Very nice.

@BiglinesNL4 жыл бұрын
wouldn't it be better to use one screw per board (on each side), since you're dealing with over a mm of expansion?
@kuffyswoodwork4 жыл бұрын
There is enough room around the screw hole for things to move without causing any issues.
