My heart aches when I watch these clips. I probably have about 50 P-Funk shows under my belt, in all their various iterations: Parliament-Funkadelic, P-Funk All-Stars, Original P, Bernie Worrell and the Woo Warriors, Maceo and and Fred as the JBs, and of course, Bootsy. Gots to have my Bootsy. More than anybody else, their music has been the soundtrack of my life. The Mothership has given us one hell of a ride! This surprise show inside the hangar on Thursday night before most attendees had even arrived, then headlining the main stage the next night, two EPIC sets. Ish hit the fan Saturday afternoon> Sunday, but for two nights the fest was a giant P Funk Party. SOOOO good. Band was in TOP form. I've just realized all these years later how much Blackbyrd's huge solos were channeling Woodstock Hendrix. If you haven't seen the long jam from the middle of the Friday night set, that underlays 3 songs and ends up as a volcanic eruption--- check it out. Starts with Something Stank and ends 30 minutes later with Byrd and Lili trading riffs into total meltdown.

I had the most pleasant experience at MCI (Kansas City) airport with Mrs. Shider yesterday. Poor gal had been through heck trying to get to a show in DC. I could tell she was in low spirits, so I tried to ensure she put her mind at ease and forgot about life, for a while over her glass of wine, and my beer. What a wonderful woman. She told me of her amazing experience with P-Funk, and her late/great husband. Hopefully she got to DC okay and crushed the show!!!! Thanks for the great conversation, it's not everyday you rub shoulders with greatness. :)
