I've just discovered this gem after 11 years in 2020 since this video was posted.😲I see the beauty of Japan radiating through the strings of the biwa... Japanese Culture is so mystical and beautiful.
The Japanese have really awesome instruments, I'd love to hear them used more often around the world.

The origin of this instrument is the pipa, an ancient Chinese lute. Though in this video, I think it is played in a different style, a more Japanese style and Japanese melodic scale. But that aside I'm glad you appreciate it!
Incredible performer! Mysteriously beautiful voice... makes me cry.

Although the tone of music is beautiful (and somewhat contemplative), it's a story about a war in Japan around 12c and particularly talking about a legendary archer in JAPAN, Yoichi. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasu_no_Yoichi

She sings about an episode of the "Tale of the Heike", a Book You can buy in English. It is about Heroes, War, Fate and everything, that makes a very interesting Story. This actual Song is about a young archer, his Name was Nasu-no-Yoichi.

According to the video title, this is called "Nasu no Yoichi" About 850 years ago, there were big wars between Taira family and Minamoto family. Yoichi was a samurai soldier belonged to Minamoto side and he was known as a great bowman. Mainly, this song is about his brave story.
This is a part of the Japanese Medieval epic, Heike-Monogatari, telling about a civil war between two Samurai clans, Gen-ji and Hei-ke. This scene is called Ougi-no-mato, Target of a Fan, one of the most impressive scenes, on which a Samurai of Gen-ji side shoots an arrow aiming at a fan held up on a boat offshore, betting on the honor of his side. You can find the relic everywhere. But what about the link below? www.h3.dion.ne.jp/~urutora/heike3.htm
