Very informative. I never would have thought of that since I’ve never had any experience with VVT engines before. And people should use an oil funnel and an oil filter with a one way check valve in it so the oil doesn’t drain back out of the filter when the engine is shut off.

The phaser (cam adjuster) fail on these often because of the screen in the oil bridge coming apart blocking oil passage which also can ruin the cam journals. The locking pin in the phaser wear from lack of oil and just typical wear so the cam doesn’t lock at base timing, if this happens Usually you will have misfires at idle and get p0341 code at idle. If the screen caused damage resulting in oil bleed off from excessive clearances and/or restriction in oil flow usually you will get codes at lower rpms specially if you have a 5 speed because when u take off from a stop rpms can get low depending on the driver. I’m not saying this is the problem with the vehicle in the video just giving some info because there isn’t much good info on these problems. The car in this video has a problem with burning oil which is a common problem with these engines could be piston rings, pcv problem which is easy to know because you will have oil in the intake if it’s a pcv problem. I doubt it’s valve seals if it was it would smoke on start up after sitting over night and I’m sure the customer would say something. IMO vw/Audi should have done better with the software on these cars making it more sensitive should get a camshaft performance code or correlation code when the phaser has a problem I’ve seen so many that just have a p0341 code

Sure that is a possibility, but if its low on oil and cant duplicate a problem after its full of oil??? Might have a video coming up with a different car with cam phaser diagnosis and replacement.

Hello there, i have this tiguan 2009 for a customer with cct engine on it, this engine had issue witl ballance shaft, i removed the engine and averhauled it, replaced ballance shafts(oem), piston rings gaskets seals etc., replaced the bridge the phaser the cmshaft adjuster replace everything i still ha e this po341 fault from time to time specially when going uphill and the oil gets hot(replaced oil coolar too), if there is a clearance how am i going to know ehere is this clearance? Thank you

Thanks for the helpful video. Gets my train of thought going in a new direction. I recon low & wrong oil visco is the real cause here. Fault code was tripped at +-49% load, so maybe low oil pushed away from the oil pickup & got some air to set the code? Thanks again for the content.

I have 2007 Q7 during transport on flatbed the driver was pulling the Audi onto the bed an the bed was at an angle, whereby oil leaked out a considerable amount onto bed of truck. I am stumped as to why and even how would the oil leak out of the engine like that. I too have the P0341 code as 004 implausible ending stating intermittent. Have you ever come across anything like that before? I have fresh oil to be put in the vehicle just have not changed the oil yet in the vehicle.

low oil can cause that code (amoung other things). Fill the oil, clear the code and hope. I dont know why your oil leaked but maybe rear main seal???

@@CoolAirVw the rear oil seal is perfectly fine. I have found that there is something wrong with the oil drain plug nut which i am assuming the previous owner used an application of what appears to be JB Weld to the area. I have not had a opportunity to further inspect things to determine why JB Weld was used. Now the previous owner had it and allowed battery to drain deficiently low. This resulted in the system shutting down various components. On top of that there the Audi Q7 3.6L V6 Quattro PCM even with brand new battery in is still under impression that the dead drained deficient battery is still in vehicle. I do not have a paracitic draw, yet i am stumped as to whats now draining the brand new battery outside of what i have said that the pcm is doing thinking that it has old bad battery when it now has new one installed. The battery is main reason why most of the vehicle's system components and modules were shut down to conserve power to start vehicle which now it will not start crank yes only. I need to figure this mystery completely out..

Richard, good video/info as they say always check the basics so from my understanding the oil was leaked from the cap or the filter and do u now if Autel scanner will do that test to make sure the pcm is working to control the timing. thank you and cheeeers

My assumption was they got their oil changed and it was left low. Only under certain circumstances would it trigger the code though (hot, long drive ect). Probably the Autel will do it.

What is the oil capacity for this engine?? In some newer cars the capacity is crazy low like 4 quarts not including the filter. Great video !

Thank you. Eos was flashing error on large turns. (What did it say? "I don't remember" ) Should have been a sign. Reported P3041 code. Was very low on oil. Added oil. Seems to be fine.

Hii I am writing to see what the problem could be with my car. My garage is out of ideas, so i would be grateful if you could put in your views. Its a Skoda Superb 1.8TSI, 2011 model I got a head gasket replaced and a few cam timing chain guides replaced (only the chain guide and not the actual toming chain) The car is running just fine. There is no misfire or rough idle or any visible abnormality and there is no overheating now, due to which i had to have the head-gasket replaced, but the EPC light comes on intermittently leading to an MIL light (check engine light) and the scanner gives the code P0341 (Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance Bank 1 or Single Sensor) Now we replaced the oil control solenoid as well as the sensor. Voltage at the connector is 4.7V., yet the fault code refuses to go away. Plzzzz help !!!!

Check the cam adjuster magnet. Sometimes the spindle sticks, make sure it moves freely

I would look at the viscosity also if this Oil change. I have seen those quick lube places put 0W20 bulk oil in VW and sometimes well that would also alter the phasers on the cams

I know you ran your test then checked oil on a warm engine level so how could you make the rational that it was low or will a warm engine oil check be in the safe or full level? Interesting may need to teach myself oil checking 1 on 1 again

Whenever losing oil in the VW 2.0L TSI CCT motor, always check the pvc system.....If the diaphram in the pvc ruptures, oil will be sucked into the intake...

@@CoolAirVw I have a vw jetta 2011 tsi with error p0341 camshaft position sensor (g40) implausible signal. I added oil and the error in vag com and the failure went away. but the next day the error returned. The fault only happens with the engine warm.

If you can help me with my problem. My car when I start in the morning does not present the problem p0341, as it heats up and it is running at over 2500rpm it presents the epc lamp, even when it scans it with vcds it gives error p0341. I want to add that if the car stays in place and does not walk, even gives gas it does not show the defect. I changed the magnet camshaft but with not results. Thank you in advance

these things are so sensitive to oil. level, correct weight and spec. its why in the manuals it states to check oil level every fuel fill up.

Very valid point, but I couldn't duplicate the issue before filling with oil. Making it low again may not have yielded any results. Only so much time in the day.
