I wanna repair stuff but everytime I'm looking for instructions or tipps to repair stuff on german cars, I end up in american forums or videos. Even getting parts is like hell over here. The most stuff I need is so expensive or "Ersatzlos entfallen" (discontinued without replacement)... Hi! Having PRNDS all steady lit up in my Audi A4... cheap scanner rekons it's a fault in the speed sensor (integrated to the TCM) still goes through all gears but no cruise control... anyway, I just bought a refurb TCM from china and a cloning tool... $1500 AUD including freight, expensive but nothing compared to what companies charge here just to refurb yours (quoted FROM $2.755 AUD that's crazy!!!) Will arrive home in 9 days or so. My plan is to follow your video step by step, got the tools already. Will remove old TCM and have it ready to clone it's data to the "new" one and will put everything back (reusing gasket and probably using a digital torque wrench to avoid striping those bolts😅) Hope to get it done properly.... Wish me luck 🤞 I am not a mechanic, work as a labourer in construction meaning no knowledge but happy to try and learn through the process (oh and I'm broke too hahahaha) Thanks for sharing mate!

This was hands down the best video on KZbin for the transmission control module issue. I just did this same job tonight thanks to your help. I sent my module to ebay user: modulerepair. He fixed my module in one day. I use the same pump from harbor freight, but stuffed a paper towel around the hose to fill the gap when pumping the fluid in the transmission. It worked perfectly to stop the fluid from dripping out. There was no mess. Thanks a lot!

I see theres 2 types of auto transmissions. The CVT-Multitronic 7 speed and the 6 speed tip-tronic. Now the 2006 one I am looking at has a module issue (Diagnosed by mechanic) now the mechanic stated the TCM needs replacing and it's located in the trans. Now is this a CVT trans or a Tip-tronic. Thank you (if you have any more knowledge of the A4 (2005-2008) please do tell me! thank you again

Hi, I'm going through same issue '03 A4 1.8T FWD cabriolet. Mechanic said he also got a code (#?) for the VBelt slipping. Is this common because of limp mode? He refused to proceed and insist I should replace the transmission. I'm at the point where I can spend $4-$5k or Replace TCU myself for $900. I have the ability and knowledge to do the job, it's just I have a clam shell driveway and it'll be up for a week-ish. The car has 41,000 original miles! Again I'd just like to know if the VBelt code is possible from bad control unit. Thanks

The VBelt (drive belt) is internal transmission it drives a band on 2 cones in ones I've seen apart. This car is front wheel drive 1.8t 6 speed auto The TCU is not under passenger seat- it looks same as one in video. My friend insist it's the shifter itself )it happened on his Benz) when I tow it home Monday first order is getting the build sticker info for transmission.

@Mechani_Cole
@Mechani_Cole 6 ай бұрын
Good question! I lift it from the front engine subframe right in the middle. Sometimes you have to remove the plastics to get to it. I loft the front of the car, then place jack stands on the Pinch welds. Then I raise up the back, if and I do it on the rear diff. If fwd I tend to lift it on the tow how area or somewhere strong. Then place the other set of jackstands. To get it higher, I go back to the front, sometime with a 2x4 on the jack or 2. Then raise it up, then raise the jack stands up. Repeat for the back and then your car is high up and level. I then leave the jack under the car as well. Not holding anything up, but extended just in case a jack stand fails. I do this often to get cars up high and use the truck jack stands to do it. Be sure you are on level ground and block the wheels from rolling. @hectorrocha7366

Depends on each person's skill set. Took me about 1 hour to remove it. Probably even less time to put it back in. But if you don't have power tools and using hand tools, I'd add double the time. Filing the fluid and getting the correct fluid was the biggest pain, and a little expensive for fluid. Maybe $150-200 for the correct stuff. On top of that, you'll spill some too, it's a mess haha

It would be VERY beneficial to have a VCDS system, which isn't too expensive. But most importantly, you will need to match your transmission code to an exact used one. These cars have different versions of the same transmission that are associated with a code. Usually located in the trunk near the spare tire on a tag.

11:46 the module is a easy fix if you know how to solder aluminum wires, the electronics of this unit is the most cheap and disposable one of the many electronics units of the whole vehicle, inside you can find a Hybrid electronic circuit covered with a soft high temperature resistant resin, this hybrid circuit once that fails, it can not be fixed. The main problem: internally there are an array of mechanical bonded aluminum wires making the connection between all the hall-sensor embedded in the external plastic columns and the internal hybrid circuit covered with soft resin. Those internal aluminum wires are exposed to the changing temperatures and vibrations and this can cause in the future a permanent damage to the hall-sensor and to the hybrid electronic circuit causing overheat to the internal circuits storing a permanent error. If you open the unit carefully with a drimmel and the resin looks oily, it is game over, the excess of heat cooks the resin and you will find some wire unbound, but if the resin still transparently clear and some wires are just unbound, the only fix is to solder those wires back, if you have the skill to do it. Congratulations you will save yourself a lot of money and get a lot of money 🤣, if not, contact me and I can give you a good price for this repairs 👌, oh and about the instrument cluster... that's also easy to fix😁, oh and the triptonic same problems😉

Thank you for making this and all your videos with great dedication, and I wanted to ask you something else. I have an Audi B7 2.0T, and VCDS shows me the G196 issue in the transmission. I don't have any problems while driving, but the letters PRNDS sometimes stay in red and sometimes normal. My question is, does it relate to the TCU (Transmission Control Unit)? When I put it in D or R, it vibrates a little, but when I accelerate, the vibration stops. Is it due to the transmission? And the last question, at how many RPM should it be when it's in D or R? Thank you for your time, and thank you very much for your videos! Greetings from Chile.
@Mechani_Cole
@Mechani_Cole Жыл бұрын
When is the last time the trans fluid was changed? Is the fluid at the proper level? That's the first 2 things I would check. For the code, The ECU is telling you that there is a problem with the Transmission Output Speed Sensor 2 (G196). It's not seeing it electrically...hence the "No Signal" code. According to the Bentley Manual the G196 sensor is inside the TCM; so, if it's bad you will need to replace the TCM or find someone that can repair it for you. The sensor could be bad or you could have a wiring problem. I wouldn't order any parts until you have verified that there isn't a wiring issue.

@Mechani_Cole
@Mechani_Cole 3 жыл бұрын
I just tightened them down hand tight with a 1/4 turn. Cross pattern when tightening and haven't had any issues. They don't need to be really tight. Plus you will have to leave it running for a while while its lifted up so you will see if its leaking. But it shouldn't give you any trouble just making them hand tight🤙🏼
@mif1965
@mif1965 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply @@Mechani_Cole. I Google and found the specs somewhere: 10nM for the TCM bolts, and 15Nm for the 12 case screws. For the pattern I just went as the bolts were on a clock, i.e. 12,6, 3, 9, 1, 7 and so. No leaks and just a happy accident with one of the 18 mm bolts that I snapped because my torque wrench basically did not work. I'm buying new bolts and replacing them later. Another question regarding adaptation: after filling up and checking level, I did the D+10meters+stop for 10 seconds, R+10 meters, stop for 10 seconds, seven times in a row; I still feel the gearbox is trying to do something really clunky sometimes. Is there any other adaptation process to follow? I have ODBEleven Pro but there is no adaptation application for the A4 B7 (which makes my mad as they advertise it does)

Any idea as to what's going on with 2008 audi q7 3.6 Quattro the PRNDS all lit up red but if I put it to the + symbol in drive the red backlight disappears. Any ideas? I am stressed right out here

Btw i found the torque spec for the mounts 6 bolts. For the 4 smaller ones 60 nm and the 2 bigger ones 100 nm then it will never loosen.

Instead of sending out to replace the TCM could I just get a new one ? I don’t know anyone local that rebuilds the transmission control module, so just wondering if I had to rebuild it or if I could just get a new tcm ?
@Mechani_Cole
@Mechani_Cole 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think that is possible. There is no local TCU rebuild shops here either, I had to send it out to Idaho to a company called ModuleMasters. They rebuilt it and sent it back. You can contact them and see if they sell rebuilt TCUs. The whole process only took about 5 days to get the module back when getting rebuilt as well.

Hi, I have a 2006 Audi A4 1.8 cabriolet that reads the same P0706 code and has the flashing prnds lights. The car drives fine, and the dealership was charging about $4500 to get it fixed. I tried taking it to a couple shops and one didn’t know what the issue was while the other refused to do it with warranty concerns. Do you know what would be the best way of going about getting this fixed? Thanks!

If I remember correctly yours is a little easier than this one and you have a shift module on the outside of the trans that goes bad and can be replaced much easier and cheaper

Can put a used tcm instead of rebuilding the failing ? Or does the rebuild place have to re program it?
