EXCELLENT HELPFUL VIDEO!!! As of 2_2020 the current part number for the GM harness that includes the sensor is 24298757 . There have been several updates but this is the lower harness only and will plug and play into the factory case connector pigtail without removing valve body (thankfully). If you have a one piece harness from case to solenoids which I have seen one time, you will have to buy both the case end and this solenoid lower half harness. The valve body would have to come down then. **Do not use aftermarket or wrong type fluid in this beast!!!!

Since at least the mid 2000s GM Truck Trans Fluid has been synthetic. 270F is the start of Coking damage and the Hot warnings to idle Veh. The Internet charts are almost all for conventional crude oil based ATF, where 220F was a damaging range. 270 to 285 Towing on hills, in desert hot weather is where you're having an issue. If there were an issue, your modern truck would have warned you and then went in to limp home if req. There was no issue in the situation you described; At all but better to worry and pay attention than to ignore it or miss it.

Fantastic video. I appreciate your craft! In your experience how often do these temperature sensors last? Couple of years? Or depending on service, like towing a lot? Next question, is would it beneficial to delete the transmission thermostat for longer life, If the sensor failure is due to too hot of transmission fluid, moisture in fluid, etc. why do you think the sensor is failing? Thanks, in advance.
@TruckNerd
@TruckNerd 3 жыл бұрын
Good questions. I think this was a poor quality part issue. I had a 2016 this week with 28k on it needed one. Also I have not had to do any a second time, so looks like they fixed the issues. As far as the the thermostat delete, I could see the logic in having the transmission run cooler, but I’m not an engineer. I’m sure they have some reasoning behind it. Thanks for supporting the channel.

Did this cure the harsh shifting or the shudder? Mine was throwing po711 and po700,its still under warranty and I took it in because it had the rumble strip feeling when shifting. And the dealer told me it needed a new harness to start.
@TruckNerd
@TruckNerd 5 жыл бұрын
The transmission shudder is fixed with a transmission flush & the correct fluid being used. The p0711 will require the harness. Sounds like you need both. The flush is uses 20 quarts of fluid and just changing the harness you will use 10. Unless they flush the entire system including the cooler, the shudder will return.

Trucknerd, you’ve been so helpful, I have a question and cannot find an IM option. Will a half quart of Lucas multi atf do damage to my trans? Story: In my trans fill last night, I had a panic moment in the dark at the end of a day chasing mystery GM parts (yes the GM parts guy said hmmm many times) when realizing I was going to be short on fluid. I added 1/2 qt of Lucas multi vehicle atf In addition to the 6 qts of mobil1 blue label synthetic added to replace the 6qts I sucked out. An additional 1qt was lost in the filter and in the pan when dropped. I then realized I should have just added back a qt of the old 6 I removed. However, when starting the truck and removing the overfill plug, I lost none. I presume I was low to begin with, or just at the mark- who could tell? Have I done harm by adding the half qt of multi and should I buy another box of 6 blue label and keep adding until full or just buy 2 boxes and attempt to flush it all? Other details... ‘16 high country 1500 5.3l w/97k using Dexron6. Lucas says it meet/ exceeds Dexron3. Tech specs says not recommended for Dexron6. I presume dex3 is missing a few components of dex6, tough to research without a chemistry degree. Thanks for your efforts on this channel

That depends on the capabilities of the regular mechanic. If your vehicle has the two piece harness it’s even easier. If they can change a transmission filter, they can change the harness. This repair should be approximately $500 in most cases. If the whole valve body is dropped it will be more.

Hello sir I have a 2007 Silverado 1500 4.8 8 cyl. And the transmission heats ups fast then goes into limp mode and the faster I go the faster it heats up. And I took it to several shops and no one seems to know what’s wrong one of the shops installed a cooler and it did not fix the problem another shop installed a radiator and that did not fix the problem they have ran the truck with the scanner connected adn they say the transmission runs fine and it shifts fine too until it goes above 200 it doesn’t want to accelerate right until like next day it accelerates fine and it doesn’t have the check engine light on or does it have codes so I would really appreciate what do you think it could be. I’m just very tired of going to shops putting money into it and nothings fixed I appreciate your time.
