Nice to see James back again. He's a legend! I can't wait five years to see this loco finished.

James is such a top bloke.

...and then you meet him and you see what he is really like! He is a real cock. Definitely not a people person, only interacts with his team and speaks to others only when the camera's are rolling.

Must be why he’s on top gear

Victorian Railways in Australia had a similar engine to the P2 or A4, slightly more tractive effort and with 1" smaller driving wheels, built in 1928. Ran a 190 mile non-stop service called the Spirit of Progress but sadly all 4 were scrapped. The Spirit of Progress was the Empire's first streamlined, air-conditioned and all steel express, with the blue and gold livery on locomotive, tender and carriages. The last carriage was an observation car with rounded end.

Some of the best if not arguably the best Victorian railways locomotive. Such a stunner, like the 520.

James should visit the Big Boy being restored, makes the P2 look tiny. I guess they were designed for different uses, though. would be like comparing an apple and an orange.
@residentevil7427 жыл бұрын
True but both are amazing feats of engineering in their own rights.

It’s very large for British standards. British locomotives on average weighed around half of their North American counterparts by the mid 20th century.

It's great that they have James may involved in this but i also love he's doing this because he's interested and not because he has to !
@dawnbirbeck15054 жыл бұрын
Bit disappointed by the proposed name - the original P2's were all given Scottish names ('Cock o' the North', 'Earl Marischal', 'Mons Meg', etc.). They were designed to work Edinburgh-Aberdeen so it was be good to stick to tradition.
@thebrummierailenthusiasts53293 жыл бұрын
looks like james is really here to help the team build 2007 prince of wales

It shouldn't matter, but it is nice having him do something for it.

I'd love to see this finished. Originally they must have had some power to them. I wonder if they were route restricted with their wheel arrangement Two notable James' who have aged very well are May and Hetfield.

Why "Prince of Wales"? The P2s were designed for the Edinburgh - Aberdeen route and given names from Scottish history.
@derekferguson3854 жыл бұрын
The LNER would never have called it Prince of Wales. The LMS their rival had a class of loco called Prince of Wales. The title Prince of Wales doesn’t exist in Scotland. His title is Duke of Rothesay. Sounds to me like someone at the top is looking for a gong.

Fun fact about Edward Thompson; he was the son-in-law of Sir Vincent Raven, the Chief Mechanical Engineer of the North Eastern Railway (one of the Great Northern Railway's principal rivals pre-grouping), and had the Grouping not taken place, the smart money was on him becoming the NER's CME in the course of time.
@johnclayden16705 жыл бұрын
Ah yes, but he did free the LNER/BR from more of that bloody awful conjugated valve gear for the inside cylinder.

Jason Hodges well it took 17 years to do tornado and now they already know everyone who knows what to do or knows someone somewhere who does this that or the other, the most time consuming bit is gathering knowledge and skills, they had to do that with tornado but for this they don't have to do much more.
