You can't develop a meaningful relationship with someone who can't reciprocate, and children are still growing in that sense. They might be smart, they might experience the same things, but they aren't on your level yet. Physically or mentally. That's why it's so weird and wrong. That's also the reason children cannot consent. Just to make it clear for non-MAPs who are reading this, I don't AT ALL condone ANY side of the MAP community (pedos), but we're not going to change anything if we don't present this information to them in a way they will understand and agree with.

S3x Ed isn't just teaching about the act of s3x, it also includes teaching kids the names of their reproductive organs, and about puberty, and about consent, and teaching young kids about that actually helps protect them from abuse. Making lgbt+ kids feel welcome also helps protect them from abuse, because abusers target isolated people.

Yes, I have & will always be an advocate for teaching kids sex-ed from a young age. My mother started teaching me the basics when I was 4 years old. As a result I have been able to advocate for myself most of my life & understand what inappropriate behavior looks like. I'll agree that most kids don't need to understand the details of all things sex related until around puberty @ the earliest, but keeping kids in the dark is not protecting them, it just makes them more vulnerable to predators.

@@kaiyodei You actually can. It can't be cured, but it can be controlled, like other mental health conditions. Cognitive behavioural therapy, CBT, using the RNR model, has been proven to prevent reoffending and even prevent p3dophiles from offending at all. It prevents CSA. By a pretty significant amount. There's also chemical treatments to prevent s3xual desire. Please do some research into the studies surrounding this area, because it can prevent CSA, which I think is something we all want to achieve. More research is needed and results are mixed depending on a bunch of different factors, but treatment focusing on prevention seems to be the right direction. This research is extremely important to me personally, being a survivor of CSA myself. Rehabilitative measures in general are proven to reduce reoffending in many different types of criminals, including child s3x offenders. Preventative measures are too, and while I haven't read studies on this particular point, I assume reducing stigma in mental healthcare is also useful in prevention as it helps those struggling with those thoughts into therapy easier. However, this is only p3dophiles. The majority of child s3xual offenders are not true p3dophiles. Only 20-30% are, depending on the study you're looking at, and though this is based heavily on self report, it lines up with the research that has been done on adult on adult offenders so isn't out of the possibility. If this is the case, we need research into the other reasons someone may offend and how to prevent that.

I take it very seriously and I too am offended by the fact that they're even trying that AND that there's actually people supporting THEM rather than us. I'm so glad I got to grow up in Canada where we had sex education in grade 5, grade 8, and grade 10 which not only included talk some talk about queer sex, but also talked about incredibly vital things like how to give and receive consent and signs to show if you are in an abusive relationship. The only thing I disliked about it was that they separated "girls" and "boys" in highschool and the girls were given skills of how to escape sexual assault while the boys basically learned nothing? I feel like if the boys were also there and got to see how we were being thought these things it would help them realize how serious sexual assault is and help them learn how to support their female and queer classmates. Not even to mention the trans girls who missed out on incredibly vital information.

Where in Canada and what time did you grow up? I never had any trans kids at my school, we never learned about weird stuff like that in school. We learned about pedos and kidnappers and sex, but we didn’t learn anything about gay sex in school. Ever. And that’s the way it should be. I graduated in 2007 in Saskatchewan. What's sickening is it's been going on for years in small doses across the US. I first heard of MAPS back in high school, had no idea what it was, and some pretty disturbing events happened to me and my boyfriend at the time. He had us convinced it was something acceptable and wasn't until a couple years later we learned what the laws surrounding age of consent ACTAULLY were. (this was before the dawn of the internet and google) Every year around pride they make another attempt at inserting themselves. Ours found us at our local gay support group, claiming to just be another gay adult looking out for the younger crowd. At pride that year, he tried to rally a bunch of other "MAPS" into a group to get a parade float. The gig was up, and everyone involved got shunned out of the community. We had no clue what was going on, tried to defend him and got schooled. Had this sort of thing been something they teach in schools, it could have been avoided! And now they're talking about removing any mention of gay or trans from schools. They're literally trying to enable these pedophiles. uhg. sorry. didn't mean to go off. But I had to spit this out.

@Todd Mother the bill doesn't protect children. it is worthless. i'm speaking from the perspective of someone who has been groomed and assaulted. worst case scenario, people are worried that LGBT people will be unfairly targeted by the bill because of the negative stereotypes associated with them (because LGBT topics are hypersexualized compared to their cis/straight equivalents, they're much more likely to be censored, or considered "unsuitable for children". Not only that, lazy politicians are always looking for a vulnerable scapegoat to pin broader societal issues onto (in this case, non-paraphilic sexual minorities, and pedophilia)

What makes me sad is this term started for people who were in therapy trying to get help for a problem they had. They had small communities that no one really knew of so they could support each other with their issues. Then someone foolishly made a pride flag, and it blew up. The original map flag creator has since left their OG blog and said it was a "joke," but clearly the damage has been done. Now what was once a safe term for people who were trying to work on a part of themselves they felt shame towards has somehow become a term they think is worthy of praise and equality instead of being a mental health issue that needs to be worked on. What really worries me is I've seen minors themselves using the term unironically which seems dangerous because they're just going to attract adults who also use the terminology. They don't realize that they're basically using a doorway term for a very dangerous and scary world. I hope minors find safe spaces, and those who identify as a map can get the help they need.

As a minor who's had intrusive thoughts about younger kids, I have to agree. I've gotten over all that, but many people don't, and man does it suck. Don't get me wrong, if you harm a child you're not even worthy of being called a person, but I will always have sympathy for people like me who feel disgusted by themselves, and I wish them all good luck in getting better. That said, I don't think there should be a term or a community for it, because actual pedos will always try to be accepted. Just like you said happened.

It's a very specific type of ocd that tends to make you have intrusive sexual, religious, or violent thoughts. It can get pretty scary for people who don't realize they have it, because the thoughts can get quite loud and terrifying. I want you to know that there's no shame in your thoughts. People have intrusive thoughts all the time. They're not who you really are. As long as you recognize that you're doing great!

Also, we're at a point in science where we as humans have realized that yes, homosexuals and transgender individuals are born that way. However, none of that relates to the fact that people will and have abused and killed their children because they're gay or trans. Obligating schools to report something like that to the parents, especially without talking to the child first, is putting the child in danger.

I miss the days when MAPS tried to say they were the non offending pedophiles so they were the "good ones" who just wanted help. The phrase "age is just a number" originally meant "the elderly can still date". But now, these "MAPs" are twisting the phrase into something terrible. Additionally, Leviticus 20:13 has been twisted into something against gay people, when in reality, it was just a mistranslation of the Greek version of the verse. Originally, it stated, "If a man lies with a boy as one lies with a woman, he shall be put to death." Boy, not man. That verse was discouraging the very thing that "MAPs" are trying to normalize nowadays. I wish they didn't twist harmless phrases into awful things.

MAP should only be a term allotted in clinical environments for those seeking therapy who have never acted apon a child and I think that therapy should be readily available without stigma, in general, but also for this bc theres no doubt this is a mental issue.

Yea teaching little kids about the LGBT community is probably just “who you do and don’t feel butterflies for” and “whether or not you feel like the gender you were born as matches how you feel” and explaining to kids how to respect pronouns and preferred names (I feel like to explain things to little kids you need to put it into their point of view)

The thing these people always exclude is perhaps one of the most important phrases to the newer generations and potentially one of my greatest rules in life. ‘Do what you want, so long as you ARENT HURTING PEOPLE’. What they don’t seem to get is that we aren’t hurting people by being gay. They hurt people all the time. The "don't say gay" bill, is actually called "the parental rights in education" bill. What it actually says, is that classroom discussions of anything sex or gender related, through grades K-3rd.

Yeah, people are giving commentary based on what they heard other people say about it rather than actually reading it. It doesn't say "gay" anywhere in the bill. It is about all sex related topics, gay straight or other. And people don't realize it only goes up to grade 3.
