I will admit, I used to be aprehensive about the whole trans thing. I'd always have it in my mind that trans women weren't real women and I'd scoff if any one said otherwise. I don't know when it happened but at some point I just stopped caring about such things. If it doesn't hurt any one, who am I to judge? People should just be able to live their lives as they see fit. We should all strive to do that, honestly.

Another thing that needs talked about is how we need to tear down gender stereotypes, I'm a male and was born a male, but I also wanted long hair and to play with Barbies, and when I got older I thought that meant I had to either be trans or not like those things, and that's not true either, you can be a male and like stereotypically female things without actually wanting to be a female.

True. And that's true for trans people as well. There's feminine trans guys and masculine trans women. In general, anyone should be able to present and enjoy whatever asthetics they want. Up until very recently I was terrified to wear a skirt because I thought it would make people believe I wasn't really trans. I just want to be a guy in a skirt. Clothing is what you make of it.

I had short hair as a kid because I hated it sticking to my sweaty [sun-induced, running around] face; it got in the way of my activities. I always played with boys with longer hair. My barbies preferred off roading in the mud, of course, after I brushed their hair and put them in heels and sun dresses. Did you have Tonkas? I wanted the steam roller, but grew out of it before I got one. The back hoe was my go to, but it was slow going taking the Barbies to the their Lincoln Log cabin. My parents said I couldn't have everything because it would make me spoiled. I would have shared with you, and my parents would have loved it because it shows growth in humanity. My husband and I now share tools to include drills, saws, whisks, and cleaning sponges. He brushes my hair now ; ) I hope you grow your hair out or have long hair now, so your or your eventual significant other can brush yours. Live you!

When I was a small boy I loved the color yellow. I would do art with yellow. I wanted to wear yellow. And when I would play power rangers with my cousins I always tried to pick the yellow ranger. But everyone told me that its a girl color and eventually I just stopped telling people my favorite color. As I got older my color preference has changed and eventually settled on blue. Yes!! I think this is something that's really important to touch on, because a lot of videos talk about it like everyone knows from the age of 3 or something. While some people obviously do, a lot of other people don't realise it at all until they're in their teens or adulthood! I'm a trans man but I loved dolls and dressing up as a kid and my parents didn't put much emphasis on gender so I didn't think about it all that much and I didn't really "show signs" as a kid. I only started to realise I was trans when I started puberty and my body changed and I started thinking more about what gender meant to me. But since I was quite feminine as a kid, some of my family members actually didn't believe me when I came out to them because they only ever heard stories of people where it was obvious since they were kids.

This belief is being implemented on kids without the parents consent. There's also already been cases of trans women raping actual women in the restrooms. They're also trying to make it legal for CHILDREN to transition. And don't even dare say the "puberty blockers" are totally irreversible and don't leave damage. Oh they leave a lot of damage. Physical, mental, and emotional trauma. They're also trying to make it ILLEGAL for you to intentionally call someone by the "incorrect pronouns" like calling Dylan a he, which he is. He's a biological male cosplaying and making a mockery of women. Real women. This whole transgender issue is becoming a political thing. So it is becoming a big issue. It's not only the "they just wanna live their lives" yeah, at other people's expenses. So many REAL women are missing out on big opportunities why? Because trans women or filling them. Why? Because the brand, company, franchise, whatever it is, is afraid of being called transphobic. People are being silenced for having a different opinion. @@moomoomeows You fundamentally don't understand what it means to be transgender. First of all, gender and sex are two different things. Sex is biological, male, female, intersex, that kinda thing. No one is going to deny that. Gender is how one perceives themselves in the context of traditional gender roles. Being transgender is a very complex thing. It can be both biological and psychological. There are studies that show that transgender people's brains function more closely to that of the gender they identify with, and not their sex at birth. Children develop a sense of gender very very early in life. Same with sexual orientation. Whether you like it or not, children are going to find people pretty or find that they feel like a gender that doesn't align with their sex at birth. They don't know what these feelings are yet, but they are still there. So it is important to teach them about what gender and sexual orientation are so that they are more able to understand their own needs and who they are. I don't think we should be teaching elementary students obviously. Middle school would be the best time because that's when most kids would start going through puberty and these feelings become more complex and pronounced. Being trans shouldn't be political. It's just another immutable characteristic like being gay or straight or black or white. The teaching of what gender is is important.

@@pvic6959 that’s a valid question, don’t worry! It’s completely okay to just not be attracted to a person sexually. That can be a very important part of any romantic relationship. And I’m saying this as a trans guy, it’s alright. Being attracted to women doesn’t necessarily mean being sexually attracted to every single woman, after all, since no woman has the same physicality. As long as you’re respectful about it (and you already seem super respectful and kind when it comes to talking about the trans community) it’s all good mate 👍. People sometimes seem to forget that a lot of romantic attraction is paired up with both physical and sexual attraction, which isn’t shallow at all and is in fact rather normal. Remember though that not all trans women have the same sexual characteristics, some of us (as in, just trans people in general) get sex changes. It isn’t very often (as explained by one of the women in the video) but what that would basically mean is that (and you can, of course, decide for yourself whether or not my guess is accurate) you’re not /not/ attracted to trans women but you /are/ not attracted to dicks. Which is fine! Just maybe make sure to talk first with your future lover(s) before doing anything sexual (or rather just before getting into any intimate relationship) and establish both your preferences and what you are comfortable with. I’m pretty sure like 99% of trans women would be understanding about it but if you ever feel pressured (and this applies to any lover really) you have every single right to leave. Hope this helps a bit! Sorry it was so long!

I started socially transitioning when I was in my sophomore year of high school and then I started Testosterone when I was 16. Everyone’s journey is different but honestly not only because of my own personal experience, but because of people I know’s experiences too I do believe that it is I do believe that hormone blockers for kids should be available and hormones for trans teenagers should be available. If I hadn’t started transitioning when I did I don’t think I’d still be here. I’m now 19 years old and had my top surgery. I’ve been on testosterone for over 3 years now :)

Bro im super happy for you but i gotta say that i believe giving kids easy access to Hormon blockers etc will be causing more harm than good. Like, kids/teens are extremly stupid and when some of them are in a difficult time in their lives and they see how other people got so much happier by transitioning maybe they will do it too because they think that transitioning will make them happier. Yes, he’s an adult… but the brain doesn’t even fully develop until 25. The studies currently coming out on detransition is alarming. It’s literally a scientific experiment to use puberty blockers and give hormones as they are. We don’t know long term effects, it’s off label. I’m all for adults transitioning!! If they make an INFORMED decision to do so. A minor cannot give consent or informed consent for that matter on something so permanent. I do think this episode as I watch is rather dangerous with some of the disinfo and unchecked “facts” being said here. Ugh. As someone who has transitioned and then detransitioned, I know for certain it could have been prevented by the world around me just supporting and BELIEVING me when I did ID as trans. It was extremely hard to admit to myself, and later other people (still in that process lol), that I had been wrong when I’d had to fight to be believed for years - even though I never even medically transitioned. Other trans people’s support is what gave me the courage to really look into my identity. If I had just had the chance to explore my identity freely I would have known what was right for me much earlier. If my parents had let me wear ”boy clothes”, if I had been allowed to cut my hair, if I hadn’t had to hear constant comments about being ”too masculine” or ”too feminine”, and the list goes on…

I used to work with a trans woman at my last job (I wasn’t close with her, but she was a really nice person and was super fun to be around). For the longest time no one knew and in that time no one ever batted an eye and just thought she was a woman. When another coworker dug back into her social media history and found out they told everyone and instantly people felt the need to judge and criticize her. It became the gossip of the workplace where coworkers would find her socials and dig back to look at pictures of her before she transitioned. Making comments like, “I knew something was off because of X, Y, Z” and “She looked so much better as a man”, etc. it became the topic of discussion with her for others, and although she’s confident in her identity she dealt with depression and addiction before fully transitioning. She’s long since left that job fortunately, but to hear how people’s perspectives/opinions of her changed and how she was treated differently when people found out about her gender is disgusting.

Cis-men (or trans-women who are not taking hormones) who get treatment against prostate cancer might get Cyproterone-acetate (also known as Androcur) prescribed, which is the testosterone suppressing drug the gender clinic I am at has used for quite some time (and I am still using). It's to stop possible hormones from harming the healing process or, before radiotherapy making matters worse in the affected area. A colleague of mine who has prostate cancer at first argued that I was overstating some of the possibilities hormones could start to have (I had warned people that if I would suddenly explode out of anger or frustration that they would know why that was, which he thought was quite the exaggeration). I spoke with him when he had been on that drug for just a month and the first thing he said when he saw me was "Holy shit I get it now", because just like I experienced for about 4 months taking the drug without other hormones present: you enter menopause, which well...does all kinds of stuff with your mood. A cis-women on the other hand found out that the Androcur I take is nearly identical tot he Diane35 contraceptive pill, which she uses against severe acne.

maybe because for all of human history women have been oppressed on the basis of sex- women can be forcibly impregnated. only people with penises can forcibly impregnate, and only people with vaginas can forcibly impregnate. female genitalia and female bodily functions are also seen, or have been seen, as unclean- menstrual huts, the idea that menstruation/discharge is shameful, etc. and the reason people care about vaginoplasties- a serious, complicated and risky surgery- is because if you have a penis, you can rape and forcibly impregnate a woman. 99% of rapists are male. i'm a natal female with gender dysphoria, and i want to FULLY medically transition. i won't be satisfied until i have had a double mastectomy and a phalloplasty- genitals are involved in dysphoria. if you're saying you want to be a woman but somehow you're totally fine with your penis, i don't believe you have dysphoria, i believe you have a fetish.

I just recently came out to my family as Non Binary and it wasn’t from me. I recently graduated, but they announced my name and not my deadname, so my whole family found out I was trans and my dad did NOT like it. He was extremely mad at me just because I didn’t tell him sooner. We live 4 hours apart so I visit him on holidays and before my graduation there wasn’t any time to tell him. I recently visited him and he admitted that when I visited he wasn’t going to talk to me at all and just shut me out, bc he was that mad. Instead he had a heart to heart talk with me about how it made him feel and how it affected him. Eventually he came around during that visit and we spent more time together than we ever had. He was willing to learn about me and trans people, and he asked so many questions. All though he wanted to shut me out, his love for me made him spend time with me and I’m so proud of him 😭

They've gotten it totally wrong on gender. Gender, (there are 2 male, and female) that's it, refers to the sex assigned at birth and the social aspects of being male or female, respectively. Male and female are biological categories which are fixed and permanent. Then, they conflate gender and personality. Then, they conflate gender and gender roles. Then they conflate gender with sexual preference. Then, they conflate males with females, fact with fiction and men with women. A woman isn't a personality, a social construct, a feeling, or a costume that a man can just put on or take off-- She's an adult, human, female. My heart goes out to all trans people, and just people of the LGBTQ community in general. Especially those who's families rejected them. That is an utter nightmare. I know what it feels like to have family look down upon you, and shame you, and use you as the scapegoat. And that's heartbreaking enough. To have family disown you just for being who you are is so completely unfair. It hurts my heart to hear it happens so much to people in these communities. But it makes me so happy to see how strong these communities are. And growing stronger every day!

Me and my whole friend group 100% support her, but since they kinda don't wanna make a scene with people they know they keep it private. However everyday we help her try her best to express herself. I always knew I wanted to be a girl, a woman, but growing up in a christian family made it really impossible to accept, I used to pray to God "Make me a woman or kill me" while crying on my room when I was 12-15 I tried to kill myself several times until I couldn't handle it anymore. I remember one day I just came out to a friend, she helped me buy clothes I felt too ashamed of getting on my own, I came back home and found out a new song , released that SAME DAY of a Spanish band called Ska P, the song's name is Colores and it changed my life. It literally is about trans woman and how to love them and I couldn't stop crying, it was so bad that I had no other option than to come out to my family and everyone. It's been 3 years in HRT and I am happier than ever.

@@Guffba You know the issue ? It just doesn't work. To say transgender people have to accept a gender according to their sex assigned at birth doesn't work. Before transititioning we had an history of about 60 years trying psychology to "fix" transgender people in accepting who they are without transition. No result has been found of psychology being helpful to try and makes transgender individuals be able to "accept the gender they were born as" (by they way you are born as a sex not a gender). The ONLY thing that has been found to be helpful as not to harm a transgender individual is transition, which is why medically it is recommended nowadays.

I think surgery is actually mostly for the person themselves, not society, its completely normal to want it or not want it, some people feel dysphoria around it and some people don't, there's no need to go into depth about how hard it is specifically to oppose it, all surgery has recovery times and care practice, if someone is happy with the process then go for it also for the pronouns, I think its actually better to default to they, or the persons name and if they want to correct you they can, being in the closet and being asked your pronouns over and over again can be really nerve wracking, or being asked in front of a ton of people too when you would rather just have a few people know

I don’t want my response to go to waste, so I’ll paste it here for any curious cis people to read: Hi, I’m a trans man (FtM), but I’d love to offer my input on what it means to transition since our experiences are very similar! I transitioned to male because simply put, I’m not a masculine girl, I’m a boy. I’ve known for very long that I’m just a man - the thought of being a woman, even a masculine one, just isn’t right. You too, as a cis person, have your own innate sense of your gender too, right? The thought of being the opposite gender is just.. incorrect lol. Doesn’t click in your head. And of course simply dressing like a woman doesn’t mean you are a woman - being trans is way more than that. I dress pretty femininely but I still see myself as a man. Exactly right! Cis people view being trans by the outward signs: how we dress, which bathroom we use, or what surgeries we have had. But being trans is actually an emotional experience. It's about how we feel. Unfortunately it's hard to explain how "wrong" it feels to be the wrong gender, and how "right" it feels to be the right gender, to someone who hasn't experienced it. I'm not a woman because I wear a dress. Rather, I wear a dress because I am a woman. (Which is exactly the same reason why cis women wear dresses.) Also, for those who want to focus on the biology: there is evidence to suggest that the brains of women (cis or trans) function better and are happier when there is estrogen in the bloodstream, and the brains of men (cis or trans) function better and are happier when there is testosterone in the bloodstream. So getting on the right hormones for our true gender can have very direct benefits to our brains, separate from the benefit of changing our bodies to look more like our true gender.

I'm a trans guy, so I'm happy to see you finally doing this topic!! I already knew Dylan and I've followed her on tiktok for some time, but the others were so sweet too and it was great getting to hear all of their experiences. Specially their coming out stories with their parents being extremely confused or unsupportive are so relatable lol, but it's very inspirational to see that even if they had a hard time at the beggining they're now doing great and being their true selves proudly!

Sucks that you are not in The Netherlands, we had a TV show about a fictional high school series that featured a transfemale character (the show itself in general is a bit "meh" if you ask me, but I have a different standard and I fell well outside the target audience for it, so that doesn't help) played by a transfemale actress. There were people who understood just a bit more about someone's process because of that show, which was nice to see.

@@qylixs in all honesty, while the way they wrote her into the show was done very well, the coming out moment was one in which the writers just flat out went for drama instead of realism, the coming out moment took a whole lesson (not sure how long those are supposed to last in the show) so that there was no room for questions at the end, maximising the potential for all kinds of wild stories to start going around. Fiction or not, I thought they missed some clues there...

Regarding accidental misgendering, I've got a little secret for all you folks (as an nb person myself)... sometimes we accidentally misgender ourselves too! I still occasionally make mistakes with my pronouns when thinking about myself. A quick apology/correction-and-move-on is not a big deal and we totally get it, don't worry.

I loved when Dylan mentioned the discomfort that can come from people making a huge deal about misgendering you, and how it can become a whole "thing". This is exactly why I stopped exclusively using they/them pronouns, because I hated that my gender became the topic of conversation in just about every conversation that I would have.

I had, what I now know, as extreme body dysphoria set in when I was 9 and beginning puberty. My breasts disturbed me, the changes happening to my body were scary and making me not look like myself. I didn’t understand what was going on all I knew was that everyone kept saying this was “normal” and fine and I was so upset and disgusted and scared. I couldn’t look at my body, I was binding my breasts, binding my hips, I was hiding in giant hoodies in 90• heat. I wish there had been a trans person to talk to, or literature on dysphoria and dysmorphia. My parents wish doctors and counselors had told them about transness and gender identity and that kids can go through that. I’m 26 now and having to grapple with over a decade of damage while questioning my gender and trying to navigate hrt. I think parents and kids should learn about trans people, body dysphoria and dysmorphia, hrt, blockers, all of it because it could prevent so much pain.

Yes, it should absolutely be taught. Even though most people aren't trans, it would be really invaluable to those of us who are. I've known how I felt all my life, but I dismissed it and tried to suppress it. I only recently realized that those feelings meant I'm trans. I'm 47, so I lost decades trying unsuccessfully to be a man. In college, I even talked to a therapist about how I felt. I also took a class in "Psychology of Gender" in college, because I felt intuitively that something was wrong about gender. But neither of these gave me enough information to realize that I'm trans, which seems like a shame, since I was asking for help in the best way that I knew.
