Ugh, I rather not use the shadow version of characters cause for me it kind of mucks up their personality. Does the base characters have any particular advantages? Thanks for the guide btw, quite informative.

By no means are Shadow versions required! You can go very far with the base characters I have a video coming soon explaining more in depth but all normal characters are inherently better for newer to intermediate level players for a bunch of reason It’s just that at the absolute height of capability, shadow characters *theoretically* offer more value

I’m just starting out, and this is my first fighting game other than like smash Bros. I was going to start by learning Yosuke but it sounds like he might not be the most beginner friendly. Are there any alternative characters I should go for instead?

Hmm, if your goal is still to warm up and play Yosuke eventually I’d say to start out with another aggressive rush down character like Chie or Sho (doesn’t have a persona so he’s a good choice). You can do their trials to get familiar with them and get the basic combos. But all around Yu is the best beginner character to play. I made a starter guide on him that you can check out Chie and Sho starter guides coming next week also.

I suck bad with Yosuke but I've wanted to play as and master him since I was kid. After the mirage slash hard knockdown, what do you recommend my next move be? I keep getting punished after each mirage slash for being too close and vulnerable.

You have to learn how to properly press your advantage in hard knockdown situations. The key to the knockdown (Oki) game is to always start safe, then take risks once the opponent respects you. So if you're running into people who keep pressing buttons on wake up, you want to make sure you throw out meaty attacks. Meaning you start your attacks as they're in the wakeup animation so they get hit by your attacks active frames the moment they try to press buttons because they're too slow. If they're waking up with invincible attacks too often, block and punish hard to dissuade that option. Probably the best advice I can give though, is to make use of Yosuke's insane air mobility and options in the air and keep it kinda random. You see Deraban's gameplay in the video, right after the knockdown, instant air dash and cross over with jumping C. Jump backwards and throw kunai then air dash back in. And start mixing it up from there.

@@JayPhoenix just as a quick advice. My brother keeps spamming swift strike/zio car on me. Any advice on how to punish him with Yosuke?

@@kohakusora7474 For the C version of swift stirke (the shorter travel distance) you gotta try your best to not give up that range that makes it safe. If you can keep the pressure battle up close and personal then he won't have many opportunities to do it spaced out. And if he does it too close, then it's punishable with your A or B attacks starters. Also looks to see if he's doing it as a "true string", if you can move in between the attack before it and the ziocar, then you can see what options you can make him fear, like reversal DP or super so that he has to commit to doing the safe true string that you have to keep blocking.
