You can travel to Kokoto if you upgrade the boat. There you can hunt Rathalos and Monoblos. Kirin should also appear in the quest list since Kushala, but it's random chance. You need to slay it in the mountains to get the Chameleos quest after hunting every village monster. I think Teostra is unlocked after that.

The bouncing that you mentioned on Daimyo Hermitaur is actually a mechanic that affects sharpness at yellow or lower. When attacking, if your attack connects near the beginning or end of the attack animation, it will have significantly reduced sharpness (0.3x (70% reduction) if it connected at the beginning, and 0.5x (50% reduction) if it connected at the end), and thus bounce on parts that you usually would not bounce on. This is a feature in every monster hunter game, but you don't really experience it that much in the newer games due to them usually giving you green sharpness super early.

I'm one of the weirdoes who kind-of like the old MH mentality of needing to prepare - hot / cold drinks, paintballs, fights getting nerfed from absolute nightmares to pretty easy with flash / sonic bombs and barrels etc. Also basically needing earplugs to not lose your mind against constantly screaming Khezu and the like. I get that crafting hot drinks isn't exactly exciting gameplay or even require anything besides the mats and some clicks, but it adds to the feeling of being an underdog that should use every tool available to not be horribly mangled, if that makes sense. It's strange, I realize it's so obviously conventionally "bad" game design but I still like it. Those goddamn crabs & boars constantly interrupting you can go straight to hell tho!

I find people's obsession with Shogun Ceanataur armour in MH2 very funny, whether it be based off how strong it is in other MH games (especially MHF2 and MHFU). But overall it's an ok set at best in Dos because attack up as a skill kinda sucks until MHFU, In MH2 Attack Up S is +3 raw, Attack Up M is +5 raw, and Attack Up L is +10 raw.
@ProfessorRugops4 ай бұрын
You’re forgetting that Prior to Generations weapon numbers were bloated, a hammer with like 400 raw attack listed is only really around 60 and the highest raw weapons in DOS are around ~120 true raw, plus Sharpness is a goated skill in Old Monster Hunter given the high percentage increases and bouncing being incredibly prone to shitty combo cheese, and this is literally the only armor skill that raises attack at this point! (Ailment up increases your ABILITY to inflict Poison, Paralysis, and Sleep, Heroics is higher damage but is risky especially with crabs everywhere, and Critical eye is nice for being the only Affinity increasing skill it isn’t reliable for damage boosts like attack boost even if the built in mind’s eye helps, Attack is also available before all these things.)

@@ProfessorRugops Portable titles started using true raw when showing weapon attack so games like P3rd, Generations, Rise. Mainline games have been using Bloat raw for a long time like MH1, MH2, MH3, MH4, World. The highest True raw in MH2 is Black Fatalis blade at 200 true raw 1008 bloat raw. Sharpness +1 is a very valuable skill in Dos but not really until High Rank as there are only 2 weapons (+ Gaurga weapons) that can get to white sharpness in Village/Low Rank. White Sharpness has an insane 1.5 sharpness multiplier that they promptly nerfed after Dos and gave to Purple sharpness in FU before they nerfed Purple sharpness in MH3U down to 1.44 mod. The true best skill in Dos imo is Critical Eye+1 as it is secretly a combo skill and gives Minds Eye at 15 points. Heroics doesn't exist in Dos btw. You can get access to better skills such as 10 points of expert fairly early on all it requires is access to the snowy mountain. Shogun armour kinda just sucks in Dos.

@@CanadianAdim Heroics exists in DOS but is called by the Potential skill, additionally Green Sharpness is a MUCH higher damage increase from yellow relative to other Sharpness levels, Critical eye (expert) is fine but only really gets good when raw does as even at level 3 it gives an overall flat damage increase of 5%, less than that of Attack up level 3 for every weapon that isn’t Fatalis, Mind’s eye is good though since bouncing sucks.

@@ProfessorRugops your frame of reference is fucked because white sharpness is super nerfed in the PSP games compared to the PS2 ones.

Off-topic, but every time you said CRABS in the opening, I just thought of the terrible Sony E3 conference with the GIANT ENEMY CRAB.

While mostly everything else is overedited regurgitated memes with ''funny'' loud noises, your ''review'' is a fantastic example of how you can be funny without being obnoxious. Take my sub, hopefully you make more monster hunter vids like these.

Great video man! Found this video last night and what a treat it was. While I've only played a small amount of MHDos, I did play through the village of MH1 and this video brought back a lot of painful, but loved memories of that time. Keep up the good work and I'd love to see more videos of monster hunter, both old games and new!

Excellent Video PakPak, well worth the wait and hours of streaming your agony. My only regret is that I was unable to start Dos in time to play alongside you. Also, as a 5'7 gunlance main, I've heard your crimes against my kind. Your toes shall be full bursted and wyvern fired until you submit to our superiority. Please wait while I climb the beanstalk to reach you. Kind regards

As someone who completed Monster Hunter 2's village for the first time early this year: It's definitely a massive improvement over 1, but holy hell is the online insufferably balanced. I remember that 4 of us were slapping Diablos around for the whole hunt, but we STILL timed out. This was a LOW RANK Dublo as well. Once I hit Khezu, it was impossible to solo and I figured I'd never try soloing online in Dos again. But goddamn I do love that game for what it is.

Old monster hunter games were masterworks. Preparation for quests was both annoying and integral to the experience and a good design choice. I both do and don't miss older games.

I'll say this here and now, the new Snow Mountain theme is a complete and utter bop and one of the best themes in the series. It does not deserve such slander.

Thinking back on it, the MonHun franchise was such a massive risk to take in the early games industry. I really respect their decision to go through with releasing this schizophrenic game
