The instrument you’re asking about is called the “Sagar Veena” and the lady playing it is one of the only 2 people in the world who can play it. This instrument was invented by her father and is the only real “Pakistani” instrument since the rest of the instruments were invented before the creation of Pakistan but not sagar veena. Her name is noor Zehra and she’s the mother of ali noor and ali Hamza who are the two male singers in the song. Their grandfather- the guy who invented the sagar veena- was also a famous lawyer and a leftist rights activist who was vocal against the brutal dictatorship of general Zia ul haq who was Pakistan’s dictator in the late 70s and 80s

This is true love story of the city of my home town, from my home that river, Chanab is hardly 15 minutes away... Sohni the girl and mahiwal the boy true lovers and that time and that night river was on flood but Sohni decided to meet his lover living other side of the river .. her sister in law changed gharah, clay pot that night and due to this Sohni cant survive in the middle of the river and Mahiwal also jumped into river to save her but he also died, Sad true story of true love....

People may perceive it as a folk tale, but the actual meaning behind the lyrics is quite deep and interesting. This song talks about love for God. Sohni refers to "soul", talking with "physical body (clay pot)". The river refers to the "worldly life". Sohni(soul) madly wants to meet mahiwal(God), but the clay pot (body) is stopping it saying that "My structure is weak (The sinfull body is not capable of facing God)". But she still goes and gets drowned in the river.

sohni friend got jealous and replaced her claypot with an unbaked one, when sohni tried to cross the river to meet her lover mahiwal (Turk nobleman from uzbekistan) using her claypot, it dissolved in the water and she drowned. Mahiwal kept looking for her and found her floating dead body instead and he too drowned himself. Noori's mom Noor Zehra’s played ‘Sagar Veena’. She is the only one in Pakistan who can play this unique instrument. The Sagar veena is a Pakistani plucked string instrument. Similar to the Carnatic Gottuvadhyam (Chitra Vina) and Vichitra veena, it has no frets and is played with a slide. Developed in 1970 by prominent Pakistani lawyer Raza Kazim, it has evolved from Vichitra veena in both structure and sound. Up until today, Kazim's daughter Noor Zehra is the only player of the Sagar since its inception. More than seventeen Sagar Veena's have been made since its inception, with each later version different in variation and advancement. Clay pot here is the metaphor for soul, river is this world and sohni is the human body and Mahival is Allah here and in the end he sums it up that a true Sufi sheikh is the only one who'll lead to the other side and also that if you take hold of something imperfect, it'll drown you away...

Famous folk but real story (Sohni Mahinwal) of two lovers living across river Chenab, their love was not appreciated by girl sister in-law , Girl use to cross river by swimming using red clay-pot like one you saw in video they used one stormy night girl planned to meet boy unfortunately sister in-law found out so she replaced baked clay-pot with unbaked clay-pot which the girl used to swim that night which didn't last too long and girl couldn't survive boy saw and jumped into river but he could not fight the stubborn river on stormy night and he also died and that story became famous and there are many poetry and stories written, movies are made on this

The poet beautifully writes a masterpiece of a conversation between the girl and her clay pot. The girl is insisting with the pot that she wants to go meet her lover which is on the other side of the river and the clay pot is trying to stop her by telling that i won't be able to help you as the river is flooded and im a pot made of clay. It's based on a true love story of Sohni (girl) and Mahiwal (boy) Sohin out of her love for Mahiwal tried to cross the flooded river of Chinaab but sadly drowned and Mahiwal trying to save her love jumped in the river but to no avail and he also drowned trying save her love. Its a tragic love story.

I love Noori, would love to see you react to more of their songs i recommend another one Aik Alif by Noori and Sain Zahoor from Coke Studio earlier seasons produced by original creator of Coke Studios Rohail Hayat. Sain Zahoor also have a v unique voice he was first discovered by BBC and nominated for BBC World Music award and merged as the "best BBC voice of the year 2006". He lived in a remote area of Pakistan and was v poor and may still not be v rich thou. take care

its about a love story. A couple who used to love each other and used earthen pot to send messages across the river. They does not had boat or any other channel for sending messages so they used pots. and it was a hidden love affair so they can not ask anyone to bring their messages.

It is based on a Lok Love Story of Sohni, she used a clay pot to cross the river to go to an island and meet her lover. Once the relatives of Sohni found out that she goes to meet her lover like this so they replaced her pot with an unbaked clay pot and the moment she reached the centre of river indus , the pot broke amd teared away and Sohni drowned. Later her body was found there and she was buried on that same island

That instrument you called mysterious and magical is an instrument invented by a Pakistani woman. Apparently there's only one in the world and the daughter of the inventor (the woman playing it was probably her) is the only person on earth who knows how to play it. I read about it long ago, so you might wanna do some research on your own. I don't even remember what it's called.
