Join muralist and teaching artist Fu’una (Kameko Branchaud) in this conversation on social impact and shared authorship in collaborative arts. See some of her recent personal work, hear about participatory projects she’s developed for public audiences, and collaborative projects she’s implemented with community partners. Learn about the various degrees of community engagement from consultation to collaboration, and what each of those looks like in a visual arts project. Attendees will be inspired by the limitless potential of art as a relational tool.
About Our Speaker: Fu’una is a Rhode Island-based artist specializing in murals and portraits. While stylistically fluid, her artwork is most easily recognized for its sensitivity and expert use of color. She has painted murals in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Florida, Guam, and California. She has collaborated with schools, businesses, and individuals in mural designs and curatorial projects. Her portrait “Masakåda (Brave Woman)” won First Honorable Mention in the 2022 Pawtucket Arts Collaborative Foundation Show, and her mural “So Pretty It Hurts” won first place in Punto Urban Art Museum’s 2017 juried mural competition. She has a lengthy history of developing community-based arts programming, and a demonstrable commitment to advancing racial equity in the arts. She has won three awards for her community-based work.
