You are misremembering the comic though, as Sonic was talking about the Sonic 3 music in Sonic Origins getting replaced, since that's a similarly copyright-related issue. It was also drawn in reference to Ms. Pac-Man's replacement in Pac-Man Museum+, as Re-Pac hadn't even been announced yet. 8:28 I honestly disagree. I think most Pac-Man spinoffs do a good job translating the appeal of Pac-Man's gameplay into other genres, and in a way Pac-Man translates that better than spinoffs in other franchises like Mario. That said, not *all* spinoffs manage to pull this off, and in terms of platformers Pac-Man World was the first one to pull it off. Pac-Land doesn't have much to do with the maze game gameplay-wise and while Pac-in-Time did attempt to translate it in a very literal way (being required to collect all dots in maze-like levels), it failed in simply not being fun. -Also Johnny please do a Pac-Man World marathon I've wanted that for years please-

4:00 So I think I might know what happened here. In the original game Ms. Pac-Man is pulled out of the kidnapping bag as their reveal that they got her and not Pac-Man, and she has a line basically saying she’d beat their asses with a Power Pellet before they push her aside for Toc-Man getting pissed. The remake didn’t have the voice acting so I think someone mixed up who was talking there given the focus is on Pac-Mom instead of the entire family in the cage. I am also in the camp that prefers the old FMVs, including the ending where Pac-Man is an asshole. Dude kidnapped your family on your 20th birthday, I wouldn’t be particularly forgiving either (Ghosts recover from being eaten so it’s not like it’s more than a slap on the wrist).

My dad was an absolute monster playing that game and would frequently play it back in the day whenever we would go to AMC Theaters. He even had the top score until they removed the arcade cabinet. This was a great game, the Pac is back. That's not Pac-Man's wife That's an imposter it's Ms Pac-Man from wish. I still prefer the cutscenes in the original game they made the ghosts actually menacing and ruined Pac-Man's day. Each Kidnapping represented the Boss of that stage, the Anchor represented the Pirate boss, the Mummy represents the Ruins boss, the UFO represents the Space Boss, the Small robot represents a mix of the Clown and Factory boss. Finally they made the boss battles more entertaining in the Re-Pac version.

If anyone’s reading this, firstly I hope yoy have a swell day. And secondly absolutely go watch the original Pac-Man World cutscenes if you can. Also listen to the credits music for the original if you can, because I think that got replaced for Re:Pac? Also I don’t think the Pac-Man/Palutena comparison was super fair; Kid Icarus: Uprising already had a few animations of that caliber so I’m assuming it’s something that’s either done in-house or at minimum they don’t have to pull a ton of strings to get that out. Pac-Man is far more recognizable, sure, but he’s recognizable for basically one thing and one thing alone: being a yellow circle that eats dots. Everything else is nonexistent or niche at best. (Plus it does kinda add to the notion that he’s starting to become less and less recognizable as time goes on.) Plus it’s not like this was something exclusive to just Pac-Man; a few of Smash 4’s trailers didn’t really have much of a budget. (All of the DLC comes to mind, including pretty much all of the third-party reps.)

I have not played this PMW remake yet, but I have heard nothing but great things (Mrs. Pac Man erasure aside). Ted butchered the story so badly my god lol Namco brought this mess upon themselves. Midway made all of the extended universe Pac-Man characters and Namco went out of their way to avoid paying royalties to Midway. They no longer wanted to deal with the headache of trying to get their rightful royalties so they sold it to At Games and they were much worse hardasses about getting their royalties since they actually have a legal team. Honestly I have no sympathy for Namco at this point.

when i was a kid, up until about somewhere in high school, there was a pizzeria around the corner from my house, and at one point the guy did a renovation of the shop, which included a namco arcade cabinet. I think it had like 4 games maybe? a racing game, digdug, and maybe pacman as well. there's nothing quite like playing a classic namco arcade machine with the smell of pizza in the background

I don’t blame this game for playing it so safe after apparently the first attempt at this game was a huge failure. Apparently the original team was struggling, they made a gameplay demo to show namco, and it was so bad namco fired almost everyone and started from scratch

I don’t think any of the world games had smooth productions. The Dev team is on record that they flat out ran out of play testing time to balance the difficulty of the bosses. Also funny anecdotes like wanting to get James Earl Jones for Toc-Man’s voice lines but not having remotely enough in the budget for such a small detail

9:06- yeah, I’d say Ghostly Adventures and its sequel are decent games- nothing groundbreaking, but fun enough for a run or two, and the different powerup forms at least give some variation to the levels. In fact the different powers the Power Berries gave was always something I liked about Ghostly Adventures as a whole. It was a good concept and the execution was alright.

I always saw the Championship Edition series as eerily similar to the New Super Mario Bros. subseries in that after it's second game (CEDX and NSMBWii in this case) they both had negative influences on the series for a good while going forward where they constantly had to rely on hayday nostalgia pandering up until they milked it dry. After GA failed, they basically demoted Pac-Man to mobile-tier up until 2022, and even then: Pac-Man's public image had become so tarnished and his relevance had dropped so low that Klonoa: Phantasy Reverie Series still ended up overshadowing both Pac-Man releases of the same year.

This is a pleasant surprise. It's funny that while Ms. Pac-Man was the first game I've ever played through a TV-plug-in-play, I never would ever say I'm a Pac-Man fan. It lives and days on Ms. Pac-Man and World 1 and 2 (own 3 but never played it). That said I haven't played the remake but so far at least visually I do prefer the classic game.

The ending from the original is still in this game, you just have to not save everyone by the time you fight toc man. which makes sense, since you'd have to DELIBERATELY abandon them to beat the level without saving them. Which adds credence to the way the original ending went! edit: by not save everyone, I mean at least one not saved.
