During the 30 year civil war in Sri Lanka in the 90's we had no TV, no electricity and no food. But as kids, we used to collect old batteries and operate a small radio and would wait till they played this song at 9.55pm everynight before the local news. The war is now over and the country is peaceful; but nothing can takeaway the memories this song brings. I never knew the name of the song, neither the name of the composer and nether did I know the song was 400 years old. When the batteries run out of power, we leave it in the sun to charge, as we couldn't afford to buy. Listening to this song, was our only happiness during the war. Our tummies were empty, but our hearts were full.

Upon rehearing it over and over it gave me thought that this must be the sound of love and life how it passes us by in all good and sad moments. While this performance by Nippon New Philharmonic Orchestra is amazing on its own, for me it's illustrated perfectly in this Japanese commercial: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jp-yiHqMeLp9rZo Hope you'll like it and all the best from Poland! Did you know, that Pechebel’s canon in D was an obscure, unknown composition found in a German church from the 1690’s? That was 300 years ago. It was discovered by accident in the 1900s and slowly gained popularity. Legend says this tune was originally composed as a wedding march for the composer’s wife or the wife of a friend. The reason why it is so beautiful is because the composer was in love when he made the tune. And it comes across in the music. You feel what true love is.

That's not true. The original composition was made for chamber music, not orchestal music and it's tempo was much faster. In the 60's Francois Palliard made the slow version we know now. The original version even doesn't have its characteristic arpeggios. They were added on the Palliard version because some parts of the composition were borign while playing slow. Most of your comment is a fucking lie. Stop lying on the internet.
every time I listen to this music my mind bring up an unforgettable moment of my life. Summer 1970, I was 18, sitting in San Marco square Venice along with my girlfriend, looking at the stars when the see breeze brought this music and in that moment I felt myself in peace. 50 years passed by and I still remember how good I felt.

No. This song has 8 chords. Each chord can have up to 8 notes - on this piece, i can hear at least three notes per chord. Then each chord can have different order of notes - on this piece, I can hear many inversions. Then when the chords are played, there are many variations from one chord set to the next. It it was 8 notes over and over, it would be “un-listenable”

With all the chaos and turmoil going on on this planet; this type of music has got to be one of mankind's greatest accomplishments. Thank you composer Pachelbel for this wonderful music.

I watched this played by a class of children with special needs, and they did it perfectly (Nakayoshi class). It made me want to cry then. Their music teacher was, in my mind, a complete genius.

I think this might be the most beautiful music ever composed. The orchestra does a superb performance. This music radiates peace and calm. It make me think of the goodness of God and being safe in His arms.

As much as I enjoy the intimacy of a string quartet performing the Canon, there is nothing like the richness that a full orchestra produces. I personally think this right here is the finest performance I have ever heard. I can’t believe it has been here 10 years and I’ve only now found it.
