*I have a new WEBSITE! Head over to www.thetaoofdavid.com/ for Travel, Digital Nomad and Teaching blog posts incorporating video, text and photography, purchase my Teaching Online Ebooks (also at payhip.com/thetaoofdavid), take advantage of my affiliates and even book an English lesson with me at www.thetaoofdavid.com/book-en... 🇲🇽 PACHUCA, HIDALGO, MEXICO - Hola amigos and welcome to another Mexico Travel video! A while ago, I asked on a live stream for destination suggestions. As always, I like to go to lesser known/visited locations in any country and you all suggested Hidalgo, or more specifically, the state capital, Pachuca, and Real del Monte, a small mining town with a history with English miners from Cornwall.
You did not disappoint. We fall in love with some destinations, and this is one of them! In this video (which is the first of THREE videos from Hidalgo) we explore a multitude of locations in Pachuca for my THREE YEAR TRAVEL ANNIVERSARY!!
We check out the Centro area, Plaza Juarez, Avenida Revolucion, the brightly coloured Las Palmitas, Centro at night with some awesome music, eat some pastes (more on that in the Real del Monte video and climb to the Cristo Rey!!
Overall, Pachuca is diverse and does have similarities to other cities in the world. But remember, this is Mexico!
MUSIC - (all Epidemic Sound)
"The Reunion" - Trevor Kowalski (intro and Cristo Rey)
"Fast Track" - Jimmy Wahlsteen (walking to Revolucion)
"Heavy Words We're Holding" - Trevor Kowalski (Las Palmitas)
"Alla Prima" - Voodulce (ending)

I was there back in the 90s.. those colorful houses were not painted once.. then they painted them in different tones of peach. not good.. you have to try pastes, if you have not already.. I remember a pretty church and front plaza of stone on the southeast edge of El centro. there is a museum also as part of the church.. I enjoyed the archways at plaza juarez.. and his, real Del monte

David, Pachuca does look different from any other city l have seen in Mexico, the main does look like a European square. For your info the English were also relevant to the introduction of railroads in Mexico, in addition to mining and oil production. I got a kick seeing you going up the hills in Pachuca and reminded me of when you went up the hills of Real de Catorce, a true adventurer.

The Tao of David oh that’s great! I can’t wait! It’s awesome how Real del Monte (and Pachuca) have strengthened their ties with Cornwall! Even Prince Charles and Camilla made a stop there a few years back and commemorated with a plaque in the central square of town and made Pastys at the Pasty Museum haha British style pubs have been opening up (Big Ben Pub is one of them I reckon?), the Cornish Cemetery has been restored to its former glory (and a nice cafe opened up across from it) and the old attendant was knighted by the Queen and his daughter is now the groundskeeper (one of the most beautiful British cemeteries this side of the Atlantic I might add!), the birthplace of football in Mexico thanks to the Cornish bringing it from the UK, the architecture, the Cornish descendant families still living there, the mining history, Pasty Festival...you have to see which spot has the best?! Los Portales had a good ones from what I remember?! Also hosted emperor Maximilian when he visited the Cornish mines! This is why I am always surprised w Mexico, each region has its own strong culture and then you find random pockets of cultures from around the world that transport you to places such as Spain, France, China, Japan (not sure if you’ve visited Little Tokyo in Mexico City? By the Angel near Koreatown and the Gaybhourhood on Amberes), Korea, Germany, Italy, Lebanon and even Cornwall! So random but so cool! Even Pachuca has it’s Cornish legacy with their Victorian style city hall, British style bank in the central square with union jacks all over the facade and inside, the Methodist church near downtown, and of course the monumental clock using the same company that made Big Ben and a gift from the Cornish families for Mexico’s 100th anniversary! I need to go back ASAP! For sure next year! I’ll make it a weekend trip from CDMX! Keep enjoying and thanks for bringing us with you!

The Tao of David I honestly can’t wait to see this weekend’s video! Ah nice! I like the koreatown in CDMX and Little Tokyo is across Reforma Avenue on Rio Pánuco and Rio Lerma streets. Lots of ramen shops, Japanese bookstores, this awesome cafe called Enomoto (named after the Japanese agricultural colony in Chiapas) where they make amazing sandos!! And of course many restaurants and Japanese bars and even a Japanese hotel! Think they’re looking for official recognition as a Japantown kinda like Chinatown?! Can’t wait for Real del Monte and the Serbia videos coming up!

@@davidostrowski679 Definitely! On another note, sometimes you just don't realize the small things in life is what gets you through the day. I'm still in Dubai, and I just realized I've been here 13 days, and not one single person (average citizen on the street) looked my way and said good morning, good afternoon, nothing. I've tried, but they just have a blank stare. The cashiers barely even talk. It's so noticeable here compared to how Mexico is. I've been here numerous times and never noticed it because I had nothing to compare it with. Everybody is just zombies. Another thing very noticeable, was last night they had a big festival near the creek and lots of families. There was a guy selling balloons and other kiddie toys, and I only saw two families that bought any out of all those people. Very boring. But, at least a few days ago I finally found some good food at the mall (of all places)🙄

Hi!

Since this chanel was "Problems of the 1st world" I ve seen your evolution... I do really love specially your videos in Japan and, of course, in México. One of the many changes that I can see of you sincae that time is how you enjoy more and more the simple things... This video is a perfect synthesis of that. David! I'm from Pachuca! And now I'm here in the city. I wish I had seen your video, or insta stories few days ago, because I would've liked to take you on a tour to the tallest mountains that surround the centre, and have a look to the old mines that are up there, an aztec, a Spanish and an English one, plus the amazing views of the city. If you still have time, you should visit the forest at north, in El Chico and climb the rocks, 'cause the views are stunning (there's one famous named Peña Del Cuervo). The thing I love most of Pachuca are the mountains and the views, climbing them walking or on bike is a challenge and enjoying the views with the wind blowing your face is truly relaxing. The beauty of Pachuca, I think, is in the fusion between the mountain landscape and the old buildings trying to climbing it, and cover it. That fusion between the rocks and the architecture, between the nature and the man... I almost forgot, you must visit the Pisal Ben Gurion, is a great tiles plaza. And don't forget to visit Huasca de Ocampo, which with Real del Monte and El Chico are three of the five magic towns of Hidalgo.

It is fitting, in a way, that you leave Mexico this time from probably the most "English" city in the country. Football, btw, was introduced in Mexico in Real del Monte in the late 1880's. The English mining engineers formed the first league and had tournaments. How can we be sure of this? The police section in a Pachuca newspaper reported a brawl between two teams after a game. There are no earlier records of football being played in Mexico, that still is the first one! They are VERY proud in Pachuca about their premier league F.C., and they are very good at it (usually)!

We hope to retire in Mexico in 12-15 months. We prefer cool weather, speak Spanish, and have lived abroad before. We hope to find friendly local people, not too many expats, a safe city, a decent hospital, and a fairly low cost of living. We are retiring a little early and the first 5 years will be our lowest budget of about $1800usd/month. Pachuca looks like it may check all our boxes. Thoughts ?
@davidostrowski679
@davidostrowski679 2 жыл бұрын
Hey again! I'm sure I remember a comment from you a while ago! Yes Pachuca definitely ticks all those boxes, I never saw a single expat. And that budget is more than feasible. My Airbnb budget for a 1 bedroom place per month is about $550, and that's for a mid-level place I'd say. The fact you speak Spanish is the ultimate bonus as it's unlikely you'd find many in Pachuca speaking English. Plus Hidalgo as a state is AMAZING for things to do, you could do so many little day trips to places like Tula, Real del Monte etc.

Hello! Pachuca resident here. Cool weather? We have cold nights all year, and even freezing in winter, but days are still warm and sometimes scorching. Sunlight is literally deadly here. Extremely dry air! Altitude, around 2400 meters 7900ft. Not friendly, we are very cold people, we do not easily trust others. Almost no expats at all. The city is getting more and more dangerous as we get invaded by MC scum and criminals, and yeah we have decent private hospitals and a nice mall. Oh and we have a severe water crisis. What else do you need to know?
@bananapatch9118
@bananapatch9118 2 жыл бұрын
@@Sheilawisz Not sure what MC stands for ? Part of your description sounds wonderful, but unfriendly people and lack of water does not sound good. We are friendly and while we don’t require a big circle of friends we hope to find a place with mostly friendly people. We speak Spanish and do not need to be around expats.

@@bananapatch9118 Since the 2017 quake, a lot of people fleeing Mexico City have come to Pachuca. That, combined with an over abundance of new housing, has created the water crisis. Also, plenty of those people are not exactly good and crime is rising. We are not very friendly, but once the ice is broken as they say, you can make good friends here. About the water, if you land in a wealthy area and the house has a good cisterna, most likely you will be fine, but yeah, there are a lot of water shortages. You can ask me, I have lived here almost twenty years.

I was born in Pachuca but i grew in Sahagún hgo, but talking about chrismas, thus os what i found. The Bible’s answer The Bible does not give the date of Jesus’ birth, nor does it say that we should celebrate his birthday. As McClintock and Strong’s Cyclopedia states: “The observance of Christmas is not of divine appointment, nor is it of NT [New Testament] origin.” Instead, an examination of the history of Christmas exposes its roots in pagan religious rites. The Bible shows that we offend God if we try to worship him in a way that he does not approve of.-Exodus 32:5-7. History of Christmas customs Celebrating Jesus’ birthday: “The early Christians did not celebrate [Jesus’] birth because they considered the celebration of anyone’s birth to be a pagan custom.”-The World Book Encyclopedia. December 25: There is no proof that Jesus was born on that date. Church leaders likely chose this date to coincide with pagan festivals held on or around the winter solstice. Gift-giving, feasting, partying: The Encyclopedia Americana says: “Saturnalia, a Roman feast celebrated in mid-December, provided the model for many of the merry-making customs of Christmas. From this celebration, for example, were derived the elaborate feasting, the giving of gifts, and the burning of candles.” The Encyclopædia Britannica notes that “all work and business were suspended” during Saturnalia.
